As somebody who was born and lives here, it sucks now. I feel like this video really romanticizes the town. I'm glad you had positive responses, but it's not like that when you live here.
•The people are not that nice. Some people can be, but it's fake nice.
•The jobs are 80%low wage jobs. Sure you can work in another town, but a 1-2hr commute shouldn't be expected. Especially with the traffic on I20 and 1187.
•The schools are the WORST. Unless you are a football player or cheerleader. Expect to be bullied. I mean severely physically abused. And the teachers won't talk about it. And so many of the teacher have been caught sleeping with students yet it's swept under the rug. Don't expect the teacher to even teach either. They are more concerned if they have enough vodka in their thermos.
•the roads are awful. We pay taxes only to have the roads patched, and not patched well. They refuse to fix any of the roads despite demand from residents.
•The leadership here is very judgmental. They are actively trying to keep out certain business they deem "unsavory" like a new tattoo parlor for example. They think it will bring in the wrong crowd of people. We need better paying jobs.
•there's nothing to do. It's all over priced boutiques that mass order stuff from AliExpress to sell off as their own, big box retail stores, and fast food.
•All of the new apartments and houses being build are so cheaply made. I see people who are complaining about the new houses falling apart after a year. We need to stop bringing people in because this town can't support it anymore.
Bottom line is do not move here. It's not worth it. I myself am going to be moving soon. And that hurts me. Despite all the bad, this is my home. Ive lived here 30 years. It used to be such a great small town but it's not now and I have to take off the rose colored glasses and move on.
It's nothing again you or the video, but I have to say my experiences here as well.
