The City Of London Reel 1 (1951)

This documentary has excellent footage of many London landmarks - very nicely shot. The film has a leisurely pace with lots of lengthy shots. Narrator explains history of buildings and London traditions.
Reel 1. Dawn over the City of London. Early morning scenes. St. Paul's Cathedral, empty streets, cemetery. Plaque marking Dr Samuel Johnson's house. Steam train passing St. Paul's. Tug boats on the Thames. Barrow boys on the way to Billingsgate market. Low angle shot of The Monument. Leadenhall Market? Smithfield Market? Children run into school.
Mansion House. People walk out of a subway. Commuters arriving for work. Top shot of the streets. Lots of people walking across a bridge - rush hour. Signs on buildings. Bank of England. The Stock Exchange - nice footage. Dealers on the trading floor. Man sending details of prices by machine. The Baltic - men at work mill around the floor of The Baltic. Lloyd's of London. Model ship in a window (of Lloyd's?).
Tower Bridge. Unloading cargo at docks. Rolling barrels. Horse and cart. Wine being tasted. Tea being tasted. Furs being graded. Spices. Fabric. Students in caps and gowns run down concrete steps. Street scenes - number 60 bus. Men in a cafe - some eat lunch at the counter. Workers having their lunch break.
Temple Bar, Aldgate Pump, London Wall are mentioned in commentary and may be featured in the film. Britannic House - Pimms Restaurant - Whittington Church - St. Martin's in the Field - Throgmorton Street all mentioned in old records relating to this film.
