Wonderful piece of film that captures postwar London beautifully. Some great - actually vey rare - footage of the old Shot Tower where the Hayward Gallery now stands. Almost all the vehicles on the road are British built, I saw one Renault Dauphine & that was it for foreign cars... we really have given so much away.

Filmed long before I was born, but in many ways looks bliss, especially driving. Roads not cluttered with endless yellow lines, red lines, junction boxes, proliferation of signs/notices, largely pointless 20 mph limits, speed cameras, over zealous parking enforcement, being constantly monitored by ANPR, cameras everywhere, worries about whether your vehicle is euro 4 petrol or 6 diesel compliant, straying into a bus lane, congestion charging times.....to name just a few!

Yes, but air pollution was way worse, road deaths were way more frequent, the great smog...
It's a trade most people would choose to make to have driving be more difficult for cleaner air and better road safety.

@@unconventionalideas5683 but main difference in safety and emissions are the vehicles themselves, a modern vehicle is a quantum leap forward, including
pedestrian safety measures in the car designs.
