Totally agree 💯👍🏼 would love to do hybrid of my late mk1 NCF 💎 or would love to see several versions of the late william towns designs as utility vehicles and familly estates.. or light vans .. Huntsman and Highlander ..away from mini wheels.
Or an E hybrid kit of the 1984 AFRicars using modified Wood ..like MettelWood and then bio epoxy paint..
Who remembers the Medite/ply Jeeps built ...tested with a sledge hammer ⚒️ on the monocoque bodywork...
These days you could press the part cured wood to form curves and cut parts flat pack style with a computer controlled cutter.
The brilliant one is the one off 3seat abreast Micro dot.. town car a primitive but effective electric hybrid with a built in shopping cart space for the boot even when all the seats were occupied.
Its hard to imagine a better
and more minimal use of space and materials.. then or now.. just add modern brushless motor and battery tech..
Instead of the little honda generator...use the small liquid piston rotary or a opposed free piston generator across the frame inside .. Body work can be Modified wood or Green Basalt and or flax fiber.. low carbon low energy green equivalent to ridiculous and dirty carbon fibres also tougher. For glass use Lionglass as patented by a group of US university researchers half the energy needed and half the carbon dioxide produced in production and many times more resistant to cracking so you can have glass thats half as thick potentially and lighter, yet still twice the strength. It would seem.
And yes it can be made at almost half the temperature and thus saves on CO2 from heating and doesnt use the Carbonates used in making current glass.
You can also turn wood into a clear composite ..😉

@@ziggarillo If you design and build it yourself, there is no reason why it can't be a usable vehicle for day to day operations. Design to your needs and there is barely a need to own anything else. Once upon a time, small cars like the original FIAT 500 and 126 were family cars, so why can't it be done today?
As the owner of a 65 year old Frogeye Sprite, which is a similar size, weight and power, I completely get the concept of light weight and simplicity. But I worry that I am in a very small minority. Car buyers now are obsessed with bigger and bigger wheels, more and more "tech" and larger and larger exterior size (ironically, with very poor internal packaging). I _really_ hope there are enough buyers for this because it deserves to succeed.
The good thing is that cars like these only need a minority of people to sppreciate them.
I've recently watched a few engineering videos about how big wheels ruin comfort and efficiency - and I was surprised how many viewers agreed and some even pointed out how they had swapped the huge rims with thin tyres for smaller, lighter ones with tyres with genuine sidewalls and some air in them - on new cars and at their cost.
So I hope we've arrived at "peak wheel" now and the pendulum is going to swing back somewhat.
There ARE a bunch of us out here! Motorcycles have taken up some of that slack for some time. But this...has a place in my own garage!
They are not obsessed, its just what automobile companies gives us. Most of the people dont care of reasons of their taste😄They begin to love things simply because they see them often. I love compact roadsters like bmw z3, mg gtb, i love smartfones with little screens, but we do not really have a choice now)
The beauty of Carice is that they are not trying to please everyone, they are "The Perfect Car for Someone, not Everyone". And they aren't spoiling their vision to try to get in every driveway in the world. They're doin' it right!

Finally, a 2 door EV, AND a "sportscar, AND a Cabrio. Let modern brands try to build something like that. Fun, Lightweight, 2 doors and 300km range. Perfect.

You should Google the first gen Tesla Roadster from 2008. It had 393 km range and weighed 1,305 kg, roughly the same as a Mazda Miata.
This car perfectly sums up the folly of the 'big battery required' argument. A 31kwh battery that can take this car as far as a 50kwh battery would in an SUV. BMW could have made an original sized mini with an electric motor and it would have flown out of the showrooms as fast as it did back in the 60s.

As someone who spent 8 years with a little Smart Roadster I would love one of these.
Ditto! Smart Fortwo cdi owner myself I still hate having to drive full-sized cars in cities after owning it... My mom's Toyota Matrix feels like a battletank never mind my dad's ACTUAL SUV which feels like driving an aircraft carrier...
I currently own two smart ForTwo electrics and love them. One coupe, one cabrio. Super fun. Something like is is up my alley.

I was co-founder in an EV project, which had very similar characteristics originally, small sports car, L7, battery pack in centre tunnel. That project failed, but not because the idea would have been a bad one - I am happy that this is now coming out, as it is what I would like to have for summer fun car for small roads.
I think the power must be maximum 15kW continuous and 50kW is only available as peak power, as that is the L7 category limitation (maximum net power of 15kW). That is not really a limitation for anything else than top speed. It will likely accelerate great due to peak power, but top speed is unlikely exceed 90-100km/h depending on drag coefficient. Not that I would want go to autobahn with this anyway. L7-B2 does not specify speed limit, most other L7 categories specify 90km/h, but physics will limit it anyway.
Interestingly, it might be possible to fit the same car to small volume M1 category, and do away with the power limit. Likely production of that version would need to be limited to smaller number (both EU max and country maximums exist). So a "Limited edition" could offer much more power and other improvements, as long as the series is small. That is likely used by some very expensive sports car manufacturers already.
The design of this is pretty bad and probably too costly. You can easily work with a Chinese EV manufacturer to build one that much better and cheaper. A similar spec car in China is 3000 Eur.
In the video he said it was 56hp, which is about 42kW.

China's big problem is that most factories are in a race to the bottom with zero QC, inferior or defective parts and materials and shoddy build quality to sell at the lowest price.
What China should be doing is producing high end, better quality products just like the Japanese did in the 60's & 70's and Taiwan did in the 80's & 90's when their labor costs increased and were no longer competitive for low end manufacturing.
@@user-gs3tq6bx2u I was referring to the GM Wuling car sold in China, it is basic and still a best seller after 4 years. So it is a reliable car. China does make high end cars like Nio, Xpeng, HiPhi, LiMotor, Hong Chi ..... these cars are highly rated even in Europe.
The Japanese made cheap underpowered junk in the 60s and Taiwan made no cars in the 80s, they were just assembling Japanese models. Taiwan does make some bikes.
Its a Porche 356 that shrunk in the washing machine and stole the motor out of it for revenge and nicked the remote control batteries in the living room and took off! :D I love it! I'll take 14 of them! xD
I think what separates Jack from any other electric car channel presenter is that he is really quite knowledgeable about the history and car culture in general. A lot of new electric cars focus channels have a presenter that kinda live in their own bubble but Jack here could easily draw a comparison with Spyker or David Brown and it’s really quite endearing

Well, he kinda had to. Fully Charged hired him to replace Jonny Carpervert Smith, a former 5th Gear presenter who was the first "real" presenter this channel had. Bobby Llew had to finally admit he really didn't know enough about cars and was just trying to create content that filled a niche he was passionate about. Which is honestly what MOST EV channels are, just people who enjoy and are passionate about EVs sharing them with the world. The early reviews on this channel were always fun, but also tended to have factual errors or misunderstandings. So Jonny helped to correct that to a great degree, and brought an air of authority and professionalism not only to this channel, but the entire genre. So when he left to create his own channel, Fully Charged hired someone who could fill his shoes. And I think Jack does a pretty darn good job of that. I was skeptical at first, because he seemed to be very much a petrol head in the beginning... but he has grown into one of the most passionate EV presenters, who seems to really enjoy how quirky and fun EVs can be. He is far from alone, though. We now have a robust ecosystem of EV channels. If you can avoid the clickbait, the nonsense, and the cynical investment bros that is.
He presents very well, aided I'm sure by at least one researcher.
What sets him apart is he is cute 😊

Yes, although it is simple like a go-cart. It lacks safety equipment. Probably wouldn't want any of my children driving something like this. Seems less safe than even a '65 Mustang. With that in mind, it probably wouldn't be legal to drive or register in the US.

@messiermitchell4901 Yeah microcars might fallen under local neighborhood vehicles. That would limit them in speed and would not be allowed on roads over 35 mph. That's a unique category of vehicle which doesn't require safety equipment. Golf carts fall under that category. But anything that advances the EV technology is good.

I like the machined metal dash and all the toggle switches! When I had my ‘67 Morgan 4/4, it had toggle switches and a non-self canceling turn-signal switch on the dash too.

Very nice to see a light car again. The concept of electricity moving 2.5 tonnes around on it's own battery for the school run, is mental. A race to the bottom (that bottom being weight and required power).

I've been intrigued by electric cars but this is the first one I really really really feel like I need to have. The idea of a second car just for weekend drives and it being electric feels cool for some reason...
I was thinking about the opposite: what if one used this as daily? I mean, it has 300km range, very low electricity consumption and almost no maintenance. It has a roof and heating, storage for a backpack and some other stuff and it's fun. What if...

You point out one of the best characteristics of any GREAT vehicle... The connection with what is actually happening between you and the road. I was a trucker for 19 years. The worst thing they did to the trucks is to take control away from the driver. The truck is not as good as a true professional driver at moving the truck around safely. It's good for the people around and for the cargo if a person is in control. The same can be said for your passengers. That car offers what is needed... Hardly anything other than transportation.

Although the price of most things are all relative these days and circa £50k for something this bespoke is probably about right, I reckon many car enthusiasts (me included) would be just as pleased to see manufacturers (*cough Mazda*) pushing out the EV successor to the MX-5. Cheap (but versatile) materials, low weight (relative) and 200ish mile range, with a £25k price tag. Done ☑️
Exactly: I don't get why no one (especially Mazda) has made a mass produced sports car EV like this. I'm sure that a major manufacturer with R&D could push a formula like this even further so that it has even more powerful motors (like 90hp equivalent) while keeping the weight down.
An mX5 with 25KW hub motors in each wheel, a low rise battery pack that covers the entire floor plan. That's what I want.

The whole time I was watching the video I was thinking “The craftsmanship looks great but I think I would rather have a Tesla swapped Porsche Speedster replica for half the price”. Then you mentioned the price and holy crap that is bonkers! I assumed it would be at least $100k! Great deal for whoever can get it.
In mass production the price would be much lower. Hopefully car manufacturers will get the message and just start making the cars WE want instead of pleasing their Oil funded masters.

Went for a drive in my MGB yesterday for first drive of the season. And then this video pops into my feed! I would buy one of these in a heartbeat! With modern vehicles becoming larger and more packed with technology, we need to return to smaller, simpler vehicles so that people can once again experience the joys of driving. Great video. I wish this company great success!
looks a little (just a little) bit like an old porsche 356, has the hp/kw in the same range. and sounds like a fun car to drive. same as the 356 is with 'no hp' (by todays standards) - still one of the most fun cars to take for a spin. i am glad that some ppl got the hang for it again and build little fun cars to drive! one of the last i drove was the miata (sure, also not electric) - but the right concept - small, lightweight, fairly low hp... but incredible fun to drive. seing some companies getting the concept now gives me hope!
Smart Idea with the charger port/notch in the boot lid. Save's cost too as less manufacturing needed on the panels.
This Carice makes me very happy. Small, light, fun to drive,not unreasonably priced and possibly not too uncomfortable for a tall person to drive. It looks like someone has been listening to my wishes.

Totally love this, what a beautiful little thing, for that money you would take one everytime over anything else at that price point. Just need to make sure the dog is well strapped in.
Possibly the first EV I actually want to have a go in. A happy marriage of 356 and Elan that Colin Chapman would approve of. Somebody needs to make a city car like this, think 106 Rallye...

Nice presentation. Totally agree about car size. For a lot of people now who live in densely populated cities, they don't need huge, heavy, long range vehicles. Car companies should be looking at producing smaller, simpler EVs. I keep watching these sites with presenters getting excited about speed and how far they can go on a single charge. This was very refreshing to watch.
Although a few negatives for me (living in a climate where yesterday was 40 degrees Celsius) I would have to have Air cond. Long term warranty/repairs from a small company could be an issue. Insurance could be quite expensive.
It's pretty impressive that the Carice has just under double the battery of my 2015 Smart Fortwo ED, but triple the range! The Fortwo has 17.1Kwh and I can barely do 100km on it (hard to say for sure, I bought it just before winter, and the range obviously diminishes). I'm assuming the aerodynamics and the lower weight helps a lot, and the fact that this doesn't have "all the amenities" of even the Fortwo which has the ABS and traction control and air conditioning and airbags and a big radio and so on. I'm impressed, it looks like a gorgeous car I'll never be able to drive because they're not legal here in Canada.
Tell me about it! Canada really should have its own microcar/quadricycle regulations to allow for these vehicles that fit well in our large urban cities between bikes/scooters and full-blown vehicles... I also own a Smart Fortwo (cdi) and it serves me well here in Edmonton since I live in the inner city...
No the Smart cars range isn't because of the aerodynamics, it's because the battery is rubbish. Equivalent Japanese and Chinese cars have greater range. That's largely because they were designed to be EVs from the ground up so don't have a bunch of wasted space that should be cabin space or battery space. Plus it's probably true the batteries available now, are better than those Mercedes put in the Smart ForTwo (but perhaps not by much).
It also probably does not have any crash protection as it is not a requirement in a low volume micro-car in Europe.
That's a seriously nice looking car. That shot of the Caterham looks chunky and overaggressive by comparison. I really hope they do well with these. The one thing I'd like them to have which they don't is blended regen braking, so light braking uses regen and the disk brakes are only used when necessary --- it goes against their philosophy but it would also save a lot of energy, which of course lets you drive it for longer.

Cracking review of a lovely little car. Wonder how quick this thing is on a track day outing? Very, I suspect. 44k doesnt seem that outrageous for a bespoke, hand built sports car (not that I could afford it, but still).

Yean and my ebike official top speed is 25km/h. However with about 3 seconds of button pressing you can almost double that.@@ziggarillo

Now now Jack. If there are still mostly green leaves on the trees and no snow on the ground, it really can't be called 'cold'. If you've ever been in Winnipeg anytime between November and March, you would know what cold really is. ;-)

I live in the Amsterdam area, not far from where he filmed. Winter came late this year, and it took a storm for the leaves to fall, but before that it was already getting really cold. I commute on a bike, like most Amsterdammers, and my hands nearly froze without gloves. So dear Winnipegger, I know what he felt, and it was cold, but of course not comparable with your winters. We actually had those long very cold winters with big lakes frozen for months and waist high packs of snow when I was young, but we lost our open air ice skating culture a decade ago due to global warming. Writing this makes me nostalgic.

How would it (or rather: the driver) do in a crash? I guess one of the reasons modern cars are so heavy is a lot of stuff to make them handle a crash better (or try to avoid crashing in the first place).
This is legally a quadricycle, so it doesn't need to conform to car regulations.
How well does a motorcycle do against a Hummer? It's best not to ask because that's apples and oranges... These are quadricycles, small lightweight nimble. It can probably avoid crashes better because of its small size. Same goes for the Smart Fortwo... I can attest to that one personally...

Can’t see it being licensed in the states. Safety regulations have to be met. Maybe they already have a plan for that. I drive a Triumph Spitfire and it’s a tin coffin, but also built before regulations were passed. I’m with them wanting to make a basic car and easy to repair but they have an uphill battle. I hope to see one on the road someday

The fact is that this kind of EV has always been possible. You only have to looked at classic conversions to know that. And if such cars are mass produced the price will shrink to nothing in a couple of years. But this has always been the pattern of car production. Starts exclusive and expensive, then it becomes less exclusive and still expensive, then less exclusive and reachably expensive, then affordable and not exclusive, then quite affordable and accessible, then actually affordable and accessible, then suddenly cheap and saturates the market. Same with all technology. I have a 20 year-old 42" plasma TV. When I first saw plasma TVs for sale it cost £10,000 for a 28" screen. Mine cost £1200 when I bought it. It's still going strong and can display HD output that didn't even exist when it was made. But for £200 I can now get a lighter, higher quality, multi-talented, smart, 50" TV. From a £10,000 28" plasma TV to a £200 50" UHD LED TV in 25 years. Fifty times cheaper (way more if you allow for inflation) for tech that's a thousand times more advanced. The same is happening with EVs only the evolution is even faster. We've already reached the point where you cannot make an ICE car cheaper than an equivalent EV. And before anyone argues I'm talking about the cost to MAKE an EV. How much they sell it for is nothing to do with the actual cost. As Fully Charged has stated many times there is no need for electric cars to be as expensive as they are. This is going to be the self destruction of legacy motor industries because the EV giants are going to start churning out pocket money EVs while the likes of GM, Toyota and Ferrari are still trying to keep their oil industry buddies happy.
The lesson for the anti-EV mob is simple: Stop telling EV advocates what EVs can't do. Because they're usually doing it within a year of being told it's not possible.

I really hope "lowtech" electric cars become more common place. Today vehicles pack in so many features that end up overly complicating vehicles and/or only increase things that can fail. Also, by getting rid of features, you save power for what matter the most, the motor. One thing I've been wishing all major vehicles makers to start making is a base car with nothing fancy in the slightest.

That looks like a great car! A bit like the original, tiny Porsche cars. I like the idea, a small, light and nimble car, that doesn't need too much horsepower to be great fun! The funnest motorbike I ever had is the one I've had for many years now, a pretty small 50 hp retro bike, with very nimble handling. Just lean in over the TT handlebars, gun the throttles wide open, and aim for the apex! And you might be doing this at a legal speed, but it still feels just great! This car looks like it's doing just the same thing, but on four wheels!
Excellent review. 180 miles of range is all you need. The convertible looks beautiful and fun, but needs a removable hardtop for practicality. Maybe a 'double bubble' shape roof.
