  • This is going to be a special, Non-Wednesday, video release.
    I know you all have heard me say, "I don't want my channel to be a review channel." And that is true. I don't want to make product reviews the main focus of the channel, but I will do them once in a while.
    That being said, here is my unboxing, first look, and first impression at the HJC - I30. I will go over a few of the design features, and eventually put it on for a test fitting.
    After making this video, I was setting up my camera and mic system for motovloging, and noticed a nice feature and that was; since the helmet is set-up for a comm unit (Smart HJC-10B/20B by Sena). They have already crafted a place for my boom-mic and a groove to run the cable through. All the extra cord I wound up and put inside the panel on the back of the helmet.
    Here is some info I got from the HJC website:
    Head size Cheek Pads Liner
    XS 53-54cm 35mm 12mm
    S 55-56cm 30mm 9mm
    M 57-58cm 35mm 15mm
    L 59-60cm 30mm 9mm
    XL 61-62cm 25mm 12mm
    2XL 63-64cm 20mm 7mm
    Here is a list of a couple helmet features:
    DOT approved
    Lightweight polycarbonate shell
    Advanced channeling ventilation
    HJ-34 faceshield pinlock ready
    Integrated drop down sun visor
    MultiCool liner with glasses channel
    Double D-ring strap
    Speaker pockets for bluetooth systems (sold separately)
    If you would like to send me a letter, post card, gift, or product; you can send it to:

      6 months with mine and it's still a comfortable fit and still operating very well. I don't feel anything has diminished.

    Researching for a new helmet and I've discovered the US version of the i30 is double-D ring while the international ones are micro ratchet. Interesting why they would be different but I prefer the ratchet. I didn't realize this until seeing your video -- thanks for the info. I just assumed the reviews I had seen from channels outside of the US would be the same i30.

      That is interesting to know. Bizzar they would make a change like that from US model, to the rest of the world.

      HJC helmets in US has to comply with DOT, so all the helmets sold with DD Ring. In Europe the regulation of ECE allows "daily helmets" with micrometric/microratchet buckle.

    As long as HJC makes helmets, I will never have a need for one costing $600+ dollars.

    It’s been a while since the review, what are your thoughts now about it? How is the wind noise? Good initial review, thank you.

      I still love the I-30. The only issue I have been having is that the sun visor needs to be lubed.

    I have one and I love it. The vents are great. I'm a size large and it fits me perfectly. I'm having trouble with my internal sun visor. Dropping it is hit or miss. I just pull it down if it doesn't drop down totally. I have three Shoeis. A J-Cruise, a J-Cruise 2 and an RJ Platinum-R. A lot of times I find myself picking up my i30 when I go out for a ride. How crazy is that?

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I'm already having issues with my sun visor too. It almost feels like maybe it needs some lubrication. But, how would I even do that and what would I use?

    • @carmelotansengco4605
      @carmelotansengco4605 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@ChefHikerBiker Yup. Same question I'm asking myself but it's no big deal. I just pull it down manually. Retracting it is no problem. Other than that, how do you feel about the helmet as a whole?

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think it is a fine helmet. I haven't had much experience with other brands, like you have. But, I like the fitment, weight, and build.

      Thanks! I'm going to order the Pinlock and I need to get the helmet setup for moto-vloging. So, I will have a video coming soon, showing that stuff.

      @ChefHikerBiker  Před rokem +1

      It is designed for a specific com system called the HJC 10B, 20B Smart made by Sena. In fact,I think any of the "Smart" Sena systems should work. But, you should also be able to attach, pretty much, any unit. What makes the Smart system ideal, is because the battery pack is designd to screw into the back of the helmet.

    LS2 - Wrong head shape. Most LS2 are oval shape. You are at best a semi-oval. Look more round to me. HJC cater to round shaped heads.
    Pinlock is ridiculous on a 3/4 helmet. Pinlock also blur your vision at night. Oncoming traffic is blinding.
    You should buy a Scorpion EXO CT220. Comfort and visibility and comes with drop down sun visor and a small snap-on motocross style visor. I'd bet you the purchase price of the Scorpion that it's the right helmet for you.
    It also has the famous Scorpion anti-fog treatment which is incredible.

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před rokem

      I'm glad I have people like you, in my life, to tell me what I should like and dislike, and what fits me and what doesn't.
      For your information, I have an intermediate oval head. Both the LS2 Track and the HJC I30 are designed for that head shape. The only issue I had with the LS2 is that something was causing pain on the top of my head, not the front, back or sides.
      The CT220 design sucks in that you can't have both the visor and the facesheild on at the same time. It's one or the other.
      Apparently, you've never riden with a 3/4 helemt, in the cold. The faceshield gets cold and your breath fogs it over easily. Finally, I have not had any issue with headlights bluring my view through a PinLock.

      I am loving it. Still feels well seated on my head. The pads are proforming and holding up well. No real drawbacks to speak of.

    How is the wind noise?

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před rokem

      It is pretty loud, but a nice tall windshield or even just ear plugs will remedy that issue.

    • @gautheny
      @gautheny Před 7 měsíci +1

      When you reach 50km/h with the windshield up you can start to hear the sound shouting past your ears. When you close , totally different atmosphere. You feel confined , a whole lot more silent. Personally i like the wind noise thing. I keeps you engaged with your Acceleration, more like how the engine roar more as you push the gas

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I like a little wind noise. That's another reason I use 3/4 face helmets. But each person has their own tolerances.

      Looking to buy open face helmet and noise won't be problem for me since I'm profoundly deaf. I'm so so torn between i30 or F31 so do you guys have idea which better and what's different between them 2? I know F31 cost more. Thank for your time cheers

    • @ChefHikerBiker
      @ChefHikerBiker  Před 3 měsíci

      I have never tried the F31, but I love the I30. It fits my head shape very well. The weight is acceptable. The accessories like the sun visor, pinlock ready, and com system ready are a good thing. Finally, after a year of use, my helmet pads are still in great shape, I don't feel like the helmet has gotten loose
