Tamiya DT02 Build Guide & Tips - Holiday Buggy Part 2

  • Hi and welcome to Part 2 of my build guide and tips for the Tamiya DT-02 chassis. This will become the Tamiya Holiday Buggy, but you can follow this chassis build guide for any Tamiya DT02 kit. In this part, we focus on Parts Bags B and C and complete the fantastic chassis. I kept saying the word "simple" in this video, because it is a very easy chassis to put together, ideal for a first time builder, but at the same time a pleasure for any RC fan! I am making only a few little changes to the build, mainly the addition of a 540 Torque Tuned motor and upgrading the friction shocks to Tamiya CVA oil damped shocks. I hope you enjoy the video and pick up a little tip or two along the way. Happy building!
    About the DT-02 Chassis:
    The bathtub type frame chassis features a longitudinal battery layout for lower center of gravity and optimum weight distribution. 4-wheel double wishbone suspension is equipped with coil spring damped units to provide superb off-road traction. A sealed gearbox protects against sand and debris and is equipped with differential gears to efficiently transmit the power from the type 380 motor. By installing separately available Type 540 motor and corresponding pinion gear, more powerful driving can be enjoyed.

    Good guide Mark! And great looking wheels. The best 😊 Yeah, once the gear box is done the DT-02 is such a good enjoyable simple build, I agree. Weird with the CVA shocks. But weird all together with the shocks mounted the opposite way. That issue, coupled with the upper arms, the friction stock shocks, the bushings and the holes in the Holiday and Rover body is why I love the Gator and Viper even more 😁

    Another cool video Mark. Great hints and explainations👍👏👏👏 Good decision to showing the pogos and then putting on CVAs😁
    The cable management is everytime an issue. Mostly because of the short cables of the ESC. To rearange the components should don't have any effect. If it's about weight, put some lead weight on the other side to balance it out.😉

    Hiya Mark. Another nice installment in the series. Tyres look good! That thing with the shocks needing to be upside down because of the body is a pain. While you are making a shock brace it might be worth making one that will allow the shocks to sit lower. Obviously you then need to reduce the shock length a little. I know you were saying that you didn't want to spend too much time so I guess see how it goes. Hey I spent a pleasant afternoon titivating that TA-01 chassis I've got. I've put in bearings and modern electronics and it's running lovely. Are you interested in the old radio gear? I've got a couple of Acomms 27mhz transmitters and receivers if you can use them. I know how much you like your wibbly wobblies! Anyway, I am also now enjoying the benefits of being off work. Hard to know which project to tackle next. I'm thinking about doing something outrageous and building one of my kits with no unboxing and no build series. Like we were discussing before it is a palaver to video and edit everything. Obviously kits bought by someone else I will always make a video but the ones I've bought myself I might just build. Anyway, best wishes mate 😁

Glad you are having some down-time. I'm with you on this build video malarkey, just doing a fast version for the Blockhead Wild One, a lot less faff just showing the odd progress and not every step, and hopefully less editing to boot. Nice to watch, as always, Mark! It's almost as if I'm building a DT-02 myself, although I've never even seen one in real life before, ha ha... I love that typical Tamiya strong design where the front and rear slides on to the main chassis and is screwed together from both top and bottom, it becomes quite strong that way. I was surprised to see the front shocks going in upside down, good thing you had those extra CVA's. I'll be looking forward to next episode, of course!

I had to smile when you pulled that trick with the pogo stick suspension, in putting a screwdriver through the top section to stop it twisting - I do exacly the same thing bro. But I hate the tedium of building shocks. Nice job in painting the lettering on the tyres as well, a beautiful touch, that adds that bit of extra gloss to the model - sadly it probably won't last long though. Enjoy the rest of your hols mate and have a happy and peaceful New Year...🙂👍🏻🙂.

      Hi again and thanks very much, mate. Yeah, strange, I have already got 3 DT02's but never made a build guide as I did them before I started this channel! Put that right now I've got this beauty to build! Hehe, we share a lot of the same tricks, you and I - I suppose it's common sense, really. Glad you like the lettering, yes, it will stay on for the fist few minutes of the first run, but still good to look back at those vides in the future when the buggy was pristine. Same to you my friend, hope you are enjoying the holidays before we all get back to the grindstone. And of course, wishing you a prosperous New Year! 🙂👍

    Hi mate. Great build so far. Just the pain of those decals on the front wing to go. I wonder if those yellow shocks are a bigger diameter as I have fitted my mini CVA ones the right way up with no issues on body fouling. Anyway Happy New Year to you, Lou, Elle and Alf and stay safe matey.

      Hiya Rob, hope all is good! Haha, yeah, we will see about those pesky wing stickers! I think you are right about those old yellow shocks, they must be wider. Hope to fix it soon. Happy new year to you mate, lets hope we have a better 2022. Se you soon, dude! :O)

      Thank you Coryn! Oh yes, those 2 buggies of yours are fantastic Tamiyas. Yes, I need to revisit the front shocks to see if I can fit them the "correct" way up! OCD - I know exactly how you feel! Cheers. :O)

      @MarkBryanRC  Před rokem

      Hi there! The parts bag you need is the oil shock Parts bag C for the DT03 (the shocks are the same size as the DT02 and the springs are the correct weight for the buggy) and the number is 19402709.
      I was doing a search for you and found this on ebay uk for an amazing price, but be quick as it's the last one!

    Any idea why tamiya wants the front dampers upside down?
    I got the dt03 cva's and have them all upright... no modding necessary...

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hi Steven, no the stock friction dampers on this model fit on the normal way around! It's just that these CVA dampers are larger and the body is a tight fit with them in the upright position. Upside down gives more clearance, that's all!! Cheers! 😁👍
