A Former Marine Has Landed in The Philippines - Zábava
This is Clint Eastwood for sure Mark, nice guy all the same. Bob Infantry Veteran, New Zealand.
Definately had the clint looks, and some added muscle :)
He looks like a cross-bred of Clint Eastwood and Nicholas Cage
I was thinking the same. Clint Eastwood for sure.
Clint in real life?
I can hear the waves crashing on the beach outside. The tide must have come in. Just awesome! That is paradise!
I could hear it all day and night. I love it!
I agree.
I am a retired Marine, and in the mid 70's I was on a float with 2/4 and traveled alot. Semper Fi to all Marines out there.
the biggest complaint I have at 66 about USA is how unfriendly and hostile our country is now, really sad, when I grew up it wasn't that way, now it's a mess, sad America can't be a friendly place anymore, our political system causes a lot of this nasty social climate
I know exactly what you mean Michael
May have to think of moving to the Philippines 😤...
Everyone seems to be stressed out to the point of being overly rude to one another unless you live in the deep south, not so much, lol. Much like watching the world go crazy during the coof, again in the South not so much never had lockdowns just watched the rest of the world go crazy.
Both sides are pissed that their dishonest gravy train has been exposed!
@@optimusprime3413 The politics in The Philippines is far worse with often fatal results. You will no longer have the freedom and protection that you now take for granted!
wow surprise we have a lot in common. I am a retired Marine. I am from Michigan-Lansing. I came to live in the Philippines from 29 Palms California. and I was station ere from 1987-1989. small world.
I'm from Fowlerville
Morris, I’m from Rives Junction, Michigan. About 20 miles due South of Lansing
@@philsuarez7615 I went to school in Leslie. Same athletic league as Fowlerville.
@@LordTaylor007 great!I do not miss the snow on bit. I left lansing in 1971 to join the Marines. Never looked back.
This guy is the whole package. He’s smart, tall , handsome and a scuba diver😍
Semper Fi Phil. I'm a retired FMF Corpsman, first trip to Subic 1974 been in Dumaguete past 3 years...see you around
Thank you my friend
A singularly pleasant and interesting guy. Probably the result of his adventurous spirit and travel experiences (particularly in S. America) and his obvious ability to acclimatize to his environment. Being an ex-marine is always a plus. He'll be fine wherever he goes!
Good to hear developing country..much respect to this guy..👍👍👍
Woww nice story great I salute all soldiers.thanks u for sharing wth us.god bless
I really enjoyed this discussion
Semper Fi
I'm about 6 months behind you man
Am so happy to know that you love your stay in the Phil.! Mabuhay !
I am also a retired Marine living in Subic, retired in 2011, worked DOD until 2021, best decision I made to retire here.
I met a Gunny down in Davao in a pool there from his tattoo. he happened to be a Nam vet and I am a DAV officer. Found out he was infantry, a Bronze Star recipient and a Gunny and I ended up helping him on his existing VA claim. You never know who you meet in the world. Semper Squid brother from a former squid.. Gary
good interview with a normal guy.........I have been living in Medellin for 8 months and moving to Cebu in June. It is not expensive here but as he mentioned Spanish is a must and looking forward to be able to communicate with people again.
Lately, all of these interviews are getting a lot of good quality people looking to possibly live in your area very cool interesting people. The coffee shop is going to be full of many interesting conversations now and in the future. Good job interviewing Mark always a pleasure to watch.
Thank you. I appreciate your support
Thank you for your service Phil. God bless you and all of the veterans that have served. Enjoy hearing the waves in the background. Best wishes to you and Jen.
Thank you for loving our country and chosing it as your place to stay for good. Enjoy your stay and take càre always.😊
'A Former Stunt Man Has Landed in The Philippines' would've been a nicer title. Very nice guy who had so much more to say if he wasn't interrupted all the time.
Lol. That title will get million views.
Currently, a company has offered to "repair" US Navy ships in Subic Bay.
- If it happens, many more US military ships will visit the PI.
Cebu and Dumaguete City are nice places to live. Nice people, beaches and laid back life style.
Hi Mark, another solid interview. You've had so many interesting expats on recently -- outstanding work and it's greatly appreciated. One constructive suggestion to pass along from a loyal viewer: It could be beneficial to let the interviewee finish his thought/sentence (perhaps pausing for a second or two to see if he's finished) before jumping in with a comment or the next question. If you re-watch this video, you might notice there are several times where I believe Phil had more to say. Just a friendly suggestion. Your interviews are excellent and I always enjoy watching them. Keep up the great work!
Many Pinoys, like me, dream of living in US, while some Americans desire to live here in Asia. I guess we really do have that innate desire to explore places as much as possible.
Filipino guys like me watch your vlog.
The experiences of the expats, advise on retirement and "life coaching" are applicable to everyone regardless of nationality.
I'm so happy Filipino men are watching my channel. I worked with a lot of them on cruise ships. Honest hard working family men.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment 😀
Hi Mark. I'm so glad to stumble upon your channel. I'm getting ready to retire in a couple of years and thinking of spending the fruits of my hard work in the Philippines. As a highly decorated US Foreign Service Officer, retirement benefits are grand. I don't have to rely on social seurity since I'm retiring early. As US FSO, we are only required to serve 20 years to enjoy the full retirement benefits. Aside from the 800USD I've been contributing every 2 weeks some 20 years ago to my TSP which my agency matches, I've invested heavily in real estate - mostly in North Carolina. My current boss of course is Blinken. I came in during Madeline Albright time (so sad she passed away a few weeks ago). My agency calls me Optimus Prime for a reason. I almost died a couple of times in the line of duty. I spent 80% of my career in Central Asia because that is where I blend in, most efficient and effective. I'm a single mom of 33 years to 2 daughters - a medical doctor and engineer. They both have great husbands, children and careers so my pension is mine alone to enjoy shortly. I volunteered for the front lines because the pay was grand. That was the only way I was able to send my daughters to great colleges. I subscribed and hit that notify bell as well so I won't miss anything. I can't wait to tell you my story. I mean to start as a Filipina OFW to Japan some 35 years ago and end up as a US Diplomat over 20 years now is just humbling. I'd like to give back to the less fortunate expats someday. I'm currently posted in South Africa. I've be more than happy to host you and your family if you want to visit South Africa. Thank you for sharing your life with us through this channel and hope to cross path with you and your family someday. All I can say is take care of your health. As an FSO, a major requirement after a Top Secret clearance is a Class 1 medical clearance. I must say that I'm healthier than a horse... 😂😤😎. Cheers my friend and please have these great videos coming our way. I will now explore your "join" invitation in the meantime.------ I just joined...
Wow! what a character!
Great interview Mark! I don't know how you do it but you are killing it!!!!
Thank you Tom
Semper Fi Phil! Former Grunt with E Co, 2/6 back in 80’s including good ol’ Beirut. Hope to
meet you when we move back this fall. Best of luck.
Semper Fi!!! Welcome to the Philippines.
You were on your way out of the Corps, as I was going in👊🏽 You won’t recognize Subic Bay, except the HQ building by the dock. Most of the Barracks are now hotels, but the traffic rules and regulations is westernized, “strict” by Philippine standards🤣
I was station in Subic bay 87-89. Been there in 70’s as well. Living in pi now and been back there to see it. After being there when the USA had it. It was really clean etc.. and seeing it now it’s a let down. Only because I can compare it. Had I not been there you would thing it’s really nice.
@@morrishooks7536 same goes with Clark Air Base. It’s now a dump.
@@miyagi1775 because we know how it use to be😝
Another great interview ! Our neighbor in davao a former US marine too,17 yrs ( now 2022) staying for good!he had a tattoo also ! Enjoy you stay phil!
U.S-based private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management has completed its takeover of the shipyard previously run by Hanjin Philippines in Subic Bay. Economic activity and mutual defense activity will pick up.
He talks so clearly
weLcome to the philippines
Thanks sir for liking my country.
Nice sensible guy good luck.
Yet another great interview! Thanks Mark
Since he loves scuba diving, maybe he may try diving to the World's Center of the Center of Marine Biodiversity in Anilao Batangas
Nice interview with Phil, he's a dead ringer for Clint Eastwood lol.
I'm also a Marine, as someone mentioned here, once a Marine always a Marine. We'll take that to our grave lol..I'm fluent in Spanish but will not change my retirement destination. I like it here in Dumaguete, been here for 3 weeks and feel the friendliness of the people....for those who don't believe life is much cheaper have not lived in California where a single room for rent is going between $650.00 to $1,000.00 US depending if you want your own restroom..currently I'm renting a studio in Dumaguete for $260.00, American Standards...cable TV, ac, fully furnished....even has a generator so we don't have Rolling black outs
Could not touch this in California for less than $1,600.00 and no furniture
260$\month rent wow! Lucky guy! Enjoy your stay
Mark, it was good to hear the adventures of a fellow Marine. Good job by you in probing into his experiences.
Thanks Win. Nice to hear from you 🙂
Good morning...New subscriber , watching from Jeddah KSA...I love to watch your vlog and heard the story of every foreign man youve been interviewed..Hope someday to meet a foreign man...✌🏽❤🙏
Hello. mark
Again thank you for your interview.
Really interesting !!!!
As someone. New here in the Philippines. ... Your show brings me a cool connection. To the west ..... I am going back to the USA in July to take care of some things. ... And probably find the biggest. Steak 🥩 I can find.
But I shall return 😊
In Cebu try Fat Jim's. Yes it will cost you. but as a fellow American it is good for steak.
Hello Mcarthur!
I was in the PI in the 80's at that time also. We probably drank in the same bar together(USS Barbour County)..
Thank you for another great interview! Really enjoyed this as we do all of your interviews Mark.
As always, excellent interview Mark
The Philippines has the best bananas in the world and there’s more than one species with a superb taste.
Yes it is. Bananas all around Phil island. From the smallest to biggest size. Have diffferent color, too.
banana...size matters...lol
Sounds like a great guy!
David hasselhoff was acrually big in the philippines, knight rider in the 80s and baywalk in the 90s. He did a movie with filipina actress Donita Rose and recorded a song "more than words can aay" with Regine Velasquez.
You need to make these into Podcasts also !!! :)
Sounds like he has a plan, so he will do well no matter where he goes. Good luck, and thanks for the interview. Mike in the USA
Great interview! He seems like a cool guy, he'll fit right in same as you.
God willing I'll be there on August 26th for one month.
Greetings from Southern California!
Phil, welcome to the Philippines! It's more fun in the Philippines. 😊 You don't need an effort to learn the language. As I see his face, I feel like he is a flexible guy. Easy to get along with and spontaneous.
Thank you Anything Goose

Very interesting "interview" because it's more like a conversation and makes it much more engaging. Talking about travel and experience, this guy has been around, what a great life!!!!! Likewise to the interviewer, great questioning and interaction! Like this channel.
