- Retired Life in the Philippines/ Do I Live Like A King?/Old Dog New Tricks@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 I describe my Initial Expectations Against the Reality of Retirement in the Philippines
Paul,
Love your stories and honesty.
"I live better than a king because I don't have the responsibility of a king"
Dude, you have a nice roof over your head, a "gay scooter", a beautiful girlfriend, enough money to go out to coffee and spend a little time at resorts without working and goid friends. You are living like a king, man.
Dont forget the smokes 😁
@@builtnotboughtmadeinphilip3955 I was merely repeating what Paul himself calls his scooter. I've owned several scooters (and Harleys, BMWs, Hondas,...) here in the States. Nothing "gay" about it at all. Hence the quotes.
@@watersbey25 Paul always jokes about his "gay scooter", I am sure the comment wasn't meant to bash. Nice of you to defend Paul though and I feel him to be a friend as well after years of watching his content. Have a great day!
@@watersbey25 if you had been following the blog for a few years like I have, you'd get it. I am sure Paul did.
@@watersbey25 lol
Just a short comment. Found your channel mostly by accident but glad I did and have been going thru some of your older videos, so glad I did find you. Married a Filipina back in 2003 as we were both widow/ widower. Lived here till 2005 and then we went to the states. Both retired now so we moved back to Cebu, her hometown, built a beach house up in northern Cebu and plan to just live life here. Travel to the big city when we need to, but rather like province life. Found love again after being a lone widower for years. Talked to some younger girls but actually life with someone closer to my age, 10 year difference, was the best for me. Keep up the videos and glad to be here!
Good one David, nice to hear that, good on you both, and all the best for the future from New Zealand. I might come there myself, or Thailand, not sure which one yet but im retiring at Xmas time.
When I was 56 when I married a 45 y/o Cebuano. Life is still great now that we are 58 and 47.
Yeah buddy we are rooting for John !
Paul, it is an under appreciated talent to have the “gift of gab”. Being to keep a conversation going with different people is wonderful for sales and wonderful for daily life. It makes people happy.
Paul is a former car salesman🥱🥱🫤
Depends on what someone defines as "living like a king". Enjoyed the backstory and vlog. All the best to you and BM.
No it does not. Living like a king means air conditioning maid service private driver a nicer house good food. Without any of these choices ( by choice} is not living like a king. The Philippines can make you "feel" like a king, even in a nippa hut, which is priceless
You are a KING...Living with your Queen...
"I Live Like A King" is a state of mind, if "you're" happy where "you're at", you're living like a king.
Paul, you are one of the coolest, outgoing, honest, down to earth guys I have met, on You Tube! You have structured s great life, from very little cash, lots of brains, balls!, & Some good fortune! Good on ya, as the Aussies day! You are the Man! Live your videos! Keep em rolling! Ignore the trolls! Cheers!
You are a great storyteller, thank you. 👍👍👍
Thank you kindly!
old dog you got the life and thanx to mae she brightened your life, YOUR LIVING EVERY EXPATS DREAM
Perhaps a King might envy You Paul! Being comfortable and being able to relax is priceless.
Absolutely
@mrloco loco King Putin doesn't....good Sir. excuse me....I have a pot to stir?
@mrloco loco kings have to be political.
You have to remember any Filipino who’s been living in the US more than 10 years have a very understated idea of the cost of living in the Philippines. Every time Igo home to the Philippines I get shocked with how much more everything costs than I remembered.
Remember that “living like a king” may depend on the kingdom you may live. Whether it shows in your bank account or not may not be the goal, “living like a king” could be stress free riches.
@mrloco loco Those people you refer to poor are richer in many parts of life than many will ever know. Don't kid yourself...
I'm an artist and at times I have struggled with finances. I would never allow my hardships to change doing my art because that is what I love to do and I'm very good at it. Following your bliss will lead to your happiness.
@mrloco loco ok dude
@mrloco loco stay stable and obviously bitter
@mrloco loco you can live like a king or a street sweeper but we're all gunna meet the Grim Reaper 🤑💯🤔
Nice simple conversation Paul about your experiences. I appreciate your candor and wit which is refreshing. You look happy and content too! Enjoy your vlogs and personality, keep it up Paul! God's blessings!

Salamat Paul keep em coming.
🤗 Hey Paul this is a great video. 👍🏻 You explained it very well when you say you lived better that a king. That was cool 😎. Excited to see your next video on “ Budget”. Sounds exciting 🧐 Cheers 🍻
**Warning** The Kings hard earned retirement income instantly becomes the “family” and public assistance fund over here if you let it. As with many places in the world everyone is friendly and helpful, as long as the King pays.
Generosity is not a bad thing, but a man always needs to be able to draw the lines and take control. Men in the USA should learn this too, but it's more difficult in the USA because it's more subtle and people are more confused. Also in the USA men often don't have control over their own resources/money.
Yes It just depends on how much you love your money. Its good that the family understands that I have no problem helping Mom and Dad with food and medicine in fact I am happy to do so, But, I will not give money to Lazy ass siblings that refuse to find a job because they think that their sister just scored an ATM. Fortunately My G.F s siblings all have jobs and contribute what they can to help Mom and Dad With Medical and her siblings kids with school. I am happy to throw in a couple thousand Pesos each month to help the family. Welcome to the Philippines, You are not in Kansas anymore.
If you let it.
That’s the key. But. You want to be generous. If you can.
Great informative video!! I just hope someday I make my way there.
Good video Paul. All about perspective.
Another great video. I always enjoy listening to you
Great Perspective and spoke from experience. I was glad to hear you talk about the reality of it all. Thank you.
Thanks for another great video God bless you and your family
Love your channel Paul. Keep those vids coming !
Stay Safe, and Stay Blessed !
better than a king 😀 good insight Old Dog. another excellent video and topic. more power to you!
Paul, I have been watching your videos for a good length of time now. I am also looking at the Phillipines when I retire, but am looking to do so around age 55 ( Currently 49 ). I am also planning on a trip to Phil later this year or early next year at the latest to get a face to face feel for everything I have seen in your videos and others in my quest to educate myself about the Phillipines. Best wishes to you and Baby Mae!
I always enjoy your channel, Paul. Looking forward to your next budget video.
I liked the video. You are a great story teller and that was a great story to tell 👍
Nice light hearted video, good change of pace. You have what most kings don’t, total freedom and happiness. No worries to get you overwhelmed. You’re right, you have it better than a king!
Thanks Paul !!! I am planning to visit this April-May !!! And reading everything I I can to learn !!
Soo kind of you to help John. If every one did what you did and helped one person we would have a much better world. People helping people. Thank you for sharing your time, money, etc.. loving and helping another person.
Love 💞 your little bird 🐦🕊️ on the couch, behind you! Keep Trucking, my friend! 😎👍😉
I joined today I can say in confidence you are giving extremely valuable and trustworthy information to all expats willing to move to SE Asia.
There are few variations in Vietnam and Thailand of course, but more or less the same.
Thank you Sir
Beautiful , ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Thanks Paul
Great story
Glad you enjoyed it
This is a very invaluable lesson Paul. Most people don't realize that their perception are culturally biased. You do a good job at reflecting and making sense of information given to you. You would make a good anthropologist.
I am happy for everyone that get to enjoy their retirement after the long days and years of hard work during their younger years
Love your content and a great blog!!!
Paul another GREAT video today . Thanks
Great video Paul
Appreciate your honest perspective
Cheers
Great story Paul and glad you had chances of meeting Filipinos at your previous job before you came out there. Take care!
Paul, thank you! Thank God for your great attitude. Been watching for a long time. After my divorce I moved to Hawaii. Liven in the office of my job for a year. Low paying job and child support, but I lived like a king. Great friends and could walk the beach, see the sunset, same as all the millionaires!

Great video Your Majesty.
enjoyed this video, you brought some valid perspective
Its always good to see you paul
I learnt a lot from this. Sometimes one own company is for the better. Nothing teaches like experience.
As always, great story teller Paul, I think so many years in sales made you an smooth talker.
Great videos. Hope you are having good luck with your motor bike repairs.
Thanks, Paul! Always entertaining.
Great stuff, Paul. Ramblings of the old dog are much appreciated :-)
Glad you like them!
I liked this video today Paul. Kinda like my experience here in Panama.
Hello Paul, thanks for all of the good information. Looking forward to getting to Duma next week (if there’s no more visa changes). Maybe I’ll see you at the coffee , would like to buy you a cup.
Good video Paul
Another nice video 👍
The CZcams algorithm put one of your John series videos in my feed. I Subscribed to your channel. Great content! Thank you and all are helping him. 🙂
Thats a good one Paul
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Paul...great story and thanks for sharing the different cultural perceptions brought out through your interactions with Filipinas/Filipino's. When I watched your video on Kings....it brought the song to me "King For One Day" by The Thompson Twins into my mind. I then jumped on the video. Hilarious those 80's vids. Baby Mae might like that one. Anyway....always enjoy your stories and humor. Take care.
Congrats on your new subscribers! Well deserved!
Thank you for helping out brother john ur a blessing 🙌
Good info, glad I came across your channel. I have a place in Tanjay but still working until I am ready to fully retire.
Loved the story Paul (Paulie) :-) Living like a King takes on different meanings to different folks, I agree with Brian Dumont. Life is really what we make of it, easier in some places than others granted. I heed the advice and recommendations from those that can say "Been there, done that!" Thank you for sharing your experiences, it surely is a valuable public service. Be well, Be safe.
Hey Paul, I just came back to your Channel, good video's, thanks and keep up the good work!
Welcome back!

Influence of inflation on your budget would be an interesting topic, I guess. Thanks for your work, sir!
Thanks for the video!
Great insight. The key is good health and an emergency backup plan.
Watching all your videos from Spain. Europe. Your blog is very intertaning. Me rio mucho señor Paul...
Enjoyable video Paul Long live the King😀🌴🌴
Thanks 👍
"Cebuano girls are no good"?
Now you tell me
Thanks a lot Pauley !!! Lol
Been with you on your journey since the beginning, always appreciate your honesty and humor !!
Paul, I've had the opportunity to watch a number of your videos and I thank you for the information. Being in sales, you know the power of being able to be genuine to people (and the power of making people smile). So take this next part as my Western Observation (I live in Southern California). You appear very relaxed - not waiting for a coronary. Western life and careers are deeply rooted in stress. We are always, go go go... always looking for the next big thing... the next big advancement... you get the picture. But watching you, I'm able to put my stress load down and say, "Hey, That guy really looks like he's enjoying himself", and I started living a little vicariously through you. My father was in the military and my mother was from the Philippines, so I spent a few years there when we still had Subic Bay when I was a kid. Watching you brings back some memories of life there, so I'm going to keep watching!!
So keep those videos coming, and stay safe out there! I wish you all the best Paul!
You are a very articulate and honest guy
We like your content Paul and your demeanour Paul. We think you’re as good as gold!
I really enjoyed this instalment of the Ole Dog. Your humorous attitude and down to earth expectations are refreshing. I will not bore you with my own story but to say that my Filipina wife and I are both retired and living here in Oklahoma.
"Desperate broke expat stories" could be a major new Philippines CZcams genre. It's actually really engaging content.
enjoyed the video thank you
