The Gathering - Strange Machines live Pinkpop Fest(1996) Remastered
• The Gathering - Strang...
"Strange Machines" - 6:04
"Eléanor" - 6:42
"In Motion #1" - 6:56
"Leaves" - 6:01
"Fear the Sea" - 5:50
"Mandylion" - 5:02
"Sand and Mercury" - 9:57
"In Motion #2" - 6:08

A Chilean here - every time Anneke comes here (dozens of times already) it's like an old but very famous friend from abroad comes to visit lol, she is so down to earth and always chatting with anyone who approaches her. People just adore her.
I absolutely love how Chileans are so passionate about Anneke and The Gathering. I've seen some snippets from Opeth concerts in Chile as well, and I loved you guys even more. Those 2 being three of my favorite bands ever (together with Anathema), it is a joy to see their concerts in Chile.
Michelle, you have all my respect for true dedication & passion about seeing bands (& this one in particular) & reaction so nicely to them & it really makes the "A Noise Severe" Live so special, thank you & to all people from Chile ! Greetings from France ! 👍😉🤘
Graaande the gathering!!
That smile, always that smile. You see this once and fall in love.
The Gathering... GREAT! Have a look at their song Travel
Yeah, I was gonna recommend _Travel_ next.
Yes! An unbelievably beautiful song!
Was there and saw that live.... introduction to symphonic metal and this song inspired Floor to sing metal.
Same, but the year next in my case.('97). Some Vuur versions of the song are more metally
The Gthering was never symphonic
Coooool!! Ik heb ze een keer op Parkpop gezien, vet!!
She looks SO young there! 😋 She's a few years younger than me, so I was that young and innocent once too. She's really matured beautifully. Her voice has a really haunting quality. I love her vibrato. ❤️
Yep. She was beautiful in her mid-20s like here in stage, and she's even more beautiful now as a mature mid-40s woman! She aged like fine wine!
23 years old in 1996..
I love Anneke and everything she does...
Same here! 🖤
You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any help you can give me
@Casen Damien instablaster =)
@Joshua Matias Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Joshua Matias it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
Anneke - is such a beautiful person inside/out.... also she have an unique voice tone...
Yes. Isn't she a positive force. I read that she has made a conscious vow to present a positive face to the public. Check out her live cover of Cindy Lauper's Time After Time in a concert in Paris.. Good vibes.
Floor was probably more influenced by Anneke, but it would be a bald-faced lie to say that Simone was not. I am still happy that you notice these bits of info, even though a tad incorrectly. This was I think from the first album she was involved, if I am not mistaken. It was a doom metal band until then. :-) Its influence is still present in the song, though.
Anneke (Netherlands) was also a part of a trio with Liv Kristine (Norway) & Kari Rueslåtten (Norway), a few years back, who started their careers prior to 1995. That may be also interesting for you to hear those ancient tunes.
This show was broadcasted (live) at national television here in The Netherlands, so besides Floor, she inspired a lot of girls to start singing and made a lot of guys fell in love with here :) (yes, me included). This whole festival has been covered live at national television since I was a child, so when I didn't go there I watched it on television.
It’s Floor who’s inspired my Anneke.. and Simone as well.. but I guess Anneke is the godmother of the Dutch metal/rock.. and damn, I was there, at that show.. it was super heavy.. headbanging 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Marike Grootwas the first singer of The Gathering (album Always) and Martine van Loon was the singer of Almost a Dance
@@geuseliohulk8661 The first singer was Bart Smits, Marike hat some short lines as additional vocalist....
@@Andi_Wand666 Exactly. Marika was the first. You confirmed what I said.
Yes in Chile we love them!! They made the “a noise severe” recording here! All the love for The Gathering!!!
3:12 ..and she really enjoys singing, when she sings she smiles...
My favorite song from The Gathering. I just love how much energy they all had way back then.
On Beste Zangers show Floor Jansen said this song by The Gathering inspired her to pursue this style of music also.
She came into the band as repalcement for the male singer who left.. and see how and when the band stopt... she hugs herself, and that's the sign to wrap it up.. she leads the band
The dude she replaced was horrible. Bart was the best though. His lyrics were very poetic.
the gathering has so many good songs on their albums with a fantastic heavy melodic sound, and a nice dead can dance cover to boost. absolutely worth checking out!
I actually mentioned Floor and Simone, but it was a long sentence with a lot of ,,, and (..) so think they got lost a bit 😄. Loved your reaction. And yes there's more on my request list, but I've got a few other female vocalists from the 1990s I'd like to introduce/reacquaint you to next...
This band was also an inspiration for Tuomas Holopainen to form Nightwish :)
The inspiration for Tuomas to invite Tarja to sing was the Norwegian band The Third and Mortal (the pioneer band, before the Theater of Tragedy and The Gathering) and in music it was the band Sratovarius.
Mentioned in 'End of Innocence' (even a cameo with Anneke) and the biography.
@@Alvvays667 The beginning was a folk project and Kari's voice was an inspiration. It wouldn't be a metal band. So it doesn't make sense to me that The Gathering is inspiration. Especially because the band was power metal with the influence of Stratovarius, which was very different from Death of Gathering.
@@geuseliohulk8661 correct that was the idea, but when Tarja joined they switched to metal when they actually started making the demo (as mentioned in the End of Innocence docu and the biography. Anneke even made a cameo in the documentary.
@@Alvvays667 Okay, but it doesn't explain the big difference between Stratovarius' power styles and Gathering's death styles. And if the inspiration is just a woman singing, more reason I have, is Kari. What Tuomas says is not justified. He talked about Kari himself.
One of my favorite bands from back in that day. One of the best voices in metal. Anneke V and Anna Murphy of formerly of Eluvietie and now Cellar Darling. I worked metal radio when this came out and this was pushed as metal by the record label then. This is about as hard as early Sabbath.
Anneke is 23 here and Pink Pop is the oldest festival in Europe on this scale. That sweetness of here voice combined with that rock sound makes it special. She is still rocking. Try beste zangers 2021 where she sings Jest Oldu. Part English and part Turkish.
By the way,the Song is about H G WELLS Novel THE TIME MACHINE and the Sample is from the 1960 Movie of the Same Name spoken by Rod Taylor !
Wasn’t it Floor that got inspired by Anneke, not Simone? This is Floor’s favourite song by them
both
P erkedel ah okay
@@MrPerkedel and many others
Yep Floor, special this song made her want to go in the genre.
@@Populiervogel and Anneke´s antics on the stage
A few days ago i watched this same clip of them, on Pinkpop 1996. Then youtube decided i needed to see your channel. Watched a lot of your reactions. Respect for reacting to this specific concert!
I absolutely adore Anneke and The Gathering. Their song Sand and Mercury is a masterpiece as well. You guys would love it.
Dit is zo mooi love ❤❤❤❤❤
And now they are inspiring the next generation, like Oceans of Slumber you reacted to recently... they are quite into The Gathering and Anneke and you can really hear it in their songs....
What. A. Voice.
I was at the California jam. Someone came over the 4 gigantic speaker towers and said. There is 300,000 of you fuckers out there. They passed out 100,000 1 gallon plastic jugs to get water in. After 10 hours of bands ELP played last. There were at least 20 huge search lights crisscrossing the night sky at Ontario motor speedway. When they ended their song 100,000 went straight up into the air. Some full, some empty Some partially full. Imagine stoned to the bone trying to dodge water jugs. I got sun burned so bad.
Great reaction, Plis react to Travel , great song by The Gathering.
Love your reactions! This was literally the first concert(festival) I ever visited. Such a blast from the past!!
Thx guys. My favourite band.
fun fact: the gathering started as a death/doom metal band.
Anneke appears on live versions of Ayreon songs: Magnetism, Comatose, Waking Dreams, Garden of Emotions and the majestic Valley of the Queens. Magnetism has Marco and Valley has versions with Floor.
It was the first song I heard from them in 1998. I was 15 years old. It was followed by the Nightwish era, in 2000. Nice nostalgia. :)
That dope ass crowd 😁😁
She is in the new episodes of beste zangers.Starting tonight on Dutch national tv.
Brings me back to my teenage days.... I got their 'Night time birds' album. It's beautiful.
Ooooohhh Hellll Noooo! U reacted to the Gathering?!?! Oooh I'm gonna grab a drink and watch this one in a bit. BEST reaction channel on CZcams!😀🤘
I feel so old now, can almost see myself if the cam would go a bit more to the left...
thank you for this.💚♫
I was there. Great show!
Floor was inspired by Annie also. I've listened to this about 5 times. You have to do Travel. Anneke aings this song and Travel with an orchestra.
Super track!
You have to react to ‘Travel’ by The Gathering also!! Very atmospheric and haunting 😍 Another good one is ‘In motion 2’ live in 1997 I think 😁 Great reaction!
The pinkpop festival is held in my hometown Landgraaf. until this year i ve been to every edition including this one. the attendance is 60.000 people. in the bginning it was a 1 day event later it turned into a 3 day event. it hosted bands like the rolling stones, bruce springsteen and even motorhead!
This track was on a compilation mid 90's, it was the one that made ppl take notice and see what else they had.
this is a 65 000 people venue in my hometown Landgraaf(netherlands) i visit it every year. 3 days festival. and i saw this live.
Please do The Gathering - Travel - TG25 live @ Doornroosje !!! Sooooo good! Anneke
I listen to that song almost every day😀. I'm addicted to it🤘
@@jeanbobbb right? Same here
I definitely think Travel is better on the Sound Relief performance. In TG25 Anneke sings it with energy, but less finesse and dynamics.
You realy shold listen too the song Travel with The Gathering and Anneke😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️
That's true about chile. My ex bf told me about this band and now I love it
Love this
the gathering los mejores ..
Next up maybe Travel by the Gathering live at TG25?
Yes please!
The video of On Most Surfaces of their 25th anniversary reunion is great, too. I checked out the lyrics. Amazing. It's an Inuit poem.
At this point of het career some referred to as the ‘tinker bell’ of metal.
The Dutch Goddess Anneke van Giersbergen
( THE GATHERING )
So wonderfully 90s. I wish I’d known The Gathering back then.
Аннеке прекрасна!
I was once at Pink Pop at 1986 i think, but that was mainly to watch R.E.M. at the time short before they became really famous.
Alle bij 😮
Yeaaaah The Gathering!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
1. Yes, yes, YES more Anneke! And she's gotten better and better as the years have gone by. Highly recommend that you check out TG performance of "On Most Surfaces" from The Gathering's 25th anniversary concert. Or "Waking Hour" from the same show.
2. As far as I can tell, it's "AH-nik-ah vahn YEERS-berg-yen" or something close to that.
3. I saw TG twice when Anneke was still with the band, and she's smiling and having fun ALWAYS when she's singing. She just excudes JOY from performing. She's a lovely person to meet between shows, as well.
3. I hope to get around to donating to you guys when I'm able... In the meantime, you can (if you want to sneak a peek sometime) see Simone and Anneke sing together for Epica's "Storm The Sorrow" and Anneke, Floor, and Marcela Bovia singing together in Aryeon's "Valley of the Queens".
Wow seeing the comments is impressive Ive only known Anneke from this band alone The Gathering with her is an old soft spot for me they have two albums that I always jam for years now, theyre one of those bands that I was always baffled how they didnt get huge in the US but theyre awesome non the less. U guys should really react to The Gathering: Liberty Bell. Thats the first song I heard by them and was blown away
Hello guys, I see you every day and I love your reactions, see once of nightwish with tarja please, you will love it, greetings from Juarez Chihuahua 😘
This is herstory, ladies!
This was the best song ever back then and still is... ANNEKE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her voice is so much better nowadays. Or should I say even better?
Also Floor Jansen admires Anneke and went into metal because of her. Floor is also Dutch like Anneke and Simone. We also have Within Temptation and Delain, both female fronted metal bands.
Yay, see me in the audience??
Could you react to anneke and Devin Townsend “supercrush” live?
Look up Gentle Storm covering Numbered live, with Anneke and Marcela taking on Devin's parts, you won't regret it ))))))
The gathering deserves the biggest crowd
i love cathering since 1997 😁
you should check out their songs broken glass, alone, travel, marooned. i can list too many lol
Got to do her short lived project the gentle storm.
Blessed nineties!
Ah, 1996.
Back when marriage proposals from the crowd would still make Anneke blush :-)
Anneke/The Gathering are a major influence for not just Floor and Simone, but a lot of female-fronted Metal bands in Europe and some male-fronted too. Nightwishes Thuoms also mentions the Gathering as one of his early influences along with Metallica and Therion.
It is important to remember that the first singer of the band was MARIKE GROOT and the second was MARTINE VAN LOON. They started as DEATH Metal and then became experimental and finally TRIP ROCK.
And the band that started the genre was the Norwegian band THE THIRD AND MORTAL with Kari Rueslatten (the pioneer band, before the Theater of Tragedy and The Gathering).
I provided them the 'whole' story for this request 😉 (it was several thousand characters of text)
@@Alvvays667 Nice. Many people did not live at that time.
wow the gathering...like
Every woman in metal should chip in and build Anneke a monument.
She didn't just open the door, she kicked it in and let everyone in.
If you want to get into the beginnings of symphonic metal, you need to hear the band that started it , " THERION " .
It is so extremely sad to see comments in all reaction videos about Anneke and The Gathering mentioning 'oh, Floor got into metal because of her'. Anneke and The Gathering are a national treasure for The Netherlands and an international treasure to music and the doom/gothic, trip-rock, alternative etc etc scenes in general. It pains me they are not known for THEM but rather because this or this person was influenced by them.
It is interesting to see a young Anneke at the start of her career, the year Nightwish formed. The influences of grunge mixed with traditional metal are quite evident. Its a very 90s vibe.
Tuomas mentioned The Gathering as one of his inspirations to Nightwish ('End Of Innocence' documentary and in the biography). And Anneke even has a cameo in the docu too.
We can say that Anneke inspired to Floor Jansen, Marcela Bovio, Cristina Scabbia, Simone Simons and practically all nowadays melodic and symphonic female metal singers...
Maybe you must react The Gentle Storm, Anneke on vocal, and another lady name's Marcela Bovio
... the gathering ❤️🙏🏻
Chile love anneke.
Young Anneke!
Novembers Doom ft. Anneke - What Could Have Been. That shows you another side of her.
Anneke was the motivation and inspiration for Floor. But no only her. Nightwish is one of the reasons of excisting . HAIL Anneke In fact she is MAMA METAL
without her there were lots of bands without female leadsingers.
"Hopes Die Last - Alpha Wolves (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
"
YES!!!....thats the way to start with the dutch GODMOTHER of Metal (Anneke, not Anny). Also check out her Collaborations with DEVIN TOWNSEND : GRACE (Live) !!!....introduced by Steve Vai !
Maybe some songs of Heidevolk are worth a listen.
Nehalennia, for example.
Or maybe Als de dood weer naar ons lacht.
0:56 Floor Jansen heard her and saw her band on tv, and was overwhelmed for a woman /fronting a Metalband... Floor thought "I want to do that to, it is possible !!! "
Sharon den Adel of WT was also influenced by Anneke
Ahhhh. Anneke.. my sweet singing sin...
oh, here's something to react to: The Ocean - Firmament (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
the Gathering started as a death metal band
Check out her most recent band-VUUR !
Anneke and Tarja are the 2 most influential women in Goth and Symphonic Metal; inspiring the like of Floor, Simone, Sharon, and Charlotte.
But the band that started the genre was Norway's band The Third and Mortal with Kari Rueslatten (the pioneer band, before the Theater of Tragedy and The Gathering).
And maybe Cammie of Oceans Of Slumber
@@PHLCoffeeSnob Forgive me but I didn't understand. Cammie of Oceans Of Slumber started in 2011 and the female singer only entered in 2014. The Thirt and The Mortal started in 1990 (it was called Nightfall) with Kari joining the band in 1992.
I read the original post wrong
Anneke is Floor's influence, not Simone's.
listen to the studio version aswel please
