Sounds like they're making gov't stuff now.
Their update was not only disappointing, it actually made things worse.
Their update was that there is no update for Theia. And they mentioned waiting a "long time" before you hear about it again.
As if 4 years already wasn't long enough.
If you have been waiting to buy a detector, I would stop waiting and just buy a V1G2 or Uniden R8.
I have no hopes of Theia coming any time until at least 2025 if I had to guess. They seem preoccupied with a new "shiny" thing to work on.
My guess is they ran into financial troubles and had to pivot, now getting gov't grants. Makes sense. Disappointing though.

@@VortexRadar Yeah it seems like Rodenso got a taste of the sweet classified govt contract money. Considering their one Electrical Engineers said he worked at Kwajalein designing and testing military radar for the DOD I can see how this happened. (if I remember that correctly) Yeah I don't see this happening for a while. Sad, was really looking forward to this, but I'm not going to wait on this any longer.
If Theia doesn't ever roll out and once the grant money runs out, Radenso will be out of business. Mark my words.

I was thinking the same a few weeks ago when I went to their site to see if Jon was shilling any new lies and said, "well if someone else beats them to market they can't claim Theia was the first detector to utilize AI tech to cancel out false alerts since their detector wasn't ever real or in alpha/beta testing even as a full working unit," laugh. Straight lies.
Vaporware 2.0. I designed a detector myself that blocks all lasers/radar the size of the quarter. It also makes you an omelette in the morning. The only issue is parts aren’t available for it yet. Anyway you can venmo me for the pet rock available today that I also designed while you wait.
The gullibility of people astounds me.
The marketing company selling detectors under the name "radenso" also claiming "government contracts" is hilarious.

Let’s be clear. Radenso wasn’t releasing an update video today until Vortex posted his video. There is no coincidence, they scrambled to respond.
They posted about 1 hour after Vortex posted. There's no way they set up their entire filming area, calibrated the cameras, filmed multiple takes, edited, exported, uploaded, waited for CZcams to process the video (which btw takes an avg. of 45 mins for a small sized 5 minute video just to "process" on YT's servers), and then published it, all within that 1 hour. That is ridiculous. It takes hours and hours to create a decent quality video for CZcams. 😹

@@Slimothy What I think happened is that @Vortex Radar warned them in advance he was going to post this video, or atleast working on it, out of respect for them. This is a small industry and he knows them somewhat on a personal level (at all the past conferences). The last thing he wants to do is burn bridges. He has a great channel but has to walk a tight rope to giving us info without irritating the various companies to much. By letting Redenso know he was working on this, it didn't catch them by total surprise and maybe woke them up that they needed to finally give a new update. They know his followers will be the first to buy the new tech.

They can't get parts to build out Theia so there starting another product for another market that uses a similar platform,(scratch my head) so it must be a huge $ contract to do the other product so that's why its a priority and Theia is playing second fiddle.

It is normal for manufacturers to create several iterations of a product before they bring it to market. It is downright weird for them to sequentially number those pre-marketed generations on a first gen consumer release. ie For them to label something as "II" when they haven't even had an initial consumer release is utterly absurd.
I wonder if it’ll still be sold as Theia for that reason.

The non-release (no actual product) announcement of Theia 3 will be happening in early 2024.
No, it isn't, and one of many reason code names are used: I use to work for Samsung Electronics America and we had code names with Rev versions for final betas but even those betas often were replaced by a second or third (or more) beta revisions until it went v1 public launch, even then such as Note or FE editions we had 2nd/3rd revisions of parts and even models still then with many alpha/beta builds, calling it 2 implies a second version not revision. Further evidence of them being out of their lane

By the time Theia is actually released, Uniden and Escort will have something similar and given they don't have trouble putting out quality products in the interim, it'll likely be better.

I bought the R4 Christian and it's Amazing!! I suggest you trying this detector and you'll be happy you did. I was skeptical going away from Escort but this new detector is hands down better then anything from Escort for more than half the price

By "more modular", I don't think this will be anything that impacts the buyer. I think they just mean that THEY'LL have an easier time pulling bits out to put into a different product.

I won't throw shade at Ariel as he seems like a very good guy from the years on the forums and YT, but when he mentioned modularity like a wifi unit to replace the horn I genuinely was scratching my head why I would as a consumer want my radar detector to do anything other than detect radar. Sounds like more spin from Jon to stay in a tier he never earned a seat at the table to be considered among the champions in the market when they literally use the same exact hardware from the same manufacturer as Uniden, like they would have DIED with the Pro M if not for reputable people like Ariel drumming up hype for what seemed like awesome tech, like I wouldn't have ever known of them and just bought the R8 rather than DS1 for having BT and linking with Highway Radar if not for visibility to their name for years at that point all thanks to the lie Theia is, straight vaporware.

Do you not understand how hardware iteration works? It would be stupid to call it the same thing when it’s gone through a complete hardware redesign. I get that you don’t own one, so to you it is only a concept. But for the people actually designing the hardware, when you start making major changes, it would make no sense to refer to it as the old hardware when it isn’t that anymore. I work in RF electronics for a living on very similar technology as what Radenso is working on, except a much, much grander scale. We would treat any major hardware revision the same way. Do you own an iPhone? Is it the iPhone 1 or iPhone 14 Pro Max? Oh, it’s just an iPhone to you…?

Was waiting on my next "high end" detector purchase for Theia (I have a DS1 now, so not in a BAD spot, but still). Looks like R8 or V1G2 then instead. I've spent decades in IT, this thing reeks of vaporware, or insurmountable issues they're hoping to fix "eventually".
Same with the R8 tip once BT is enabled and I can use highway radar as I'll never go back, but that's no thanks to Uniden other than making open code and bluetooth enabled. Oops, looks that that one single foothold is already hardware built into three Uniden models with only the flip needed to be switched on (which I don't frankly get in itself but thus why I bought a DS1)
Theia 6 is scheduled to be the first model available for purchase. All according to plan so far. Stay tuned for further updates in 2026.
Radenso labs was a engineer firm actually created a year ago.They kept it quiet. They have had many engineering projects that are multi-million dollar projects blowing away Rd profits.

I watched their video, and I wasn't kind. Excuses, nothing more. It took 1 year for them to make a video... it's amazing everyone believes it. They wanted to stop the inquiries on Theia. Again, 1 year for a 7 minute video.

After their breathtaking video presentation on Theia, I warned them about over selling. They brushed me off. Appears their company is two people... one had a nuclear accident with her hair. They know nothing about customer relations, and they need to hire a company to deal with damage control. Good luck with those government contracts. lol. When a company whines about too many inquiries, because THEY failed is unbelievable. I would have bought their detector... but not now. What they need to do is apologize. Had to "brush off the video equipment... what a lame statement. They are allegedly developing a high tech radar detector, but one person can't upload a video to at least try and keep prospective buyers engaged. There's more happening here and Vortex Radar was NOT unbiased because have a business relationship. Counting on Vortex for damage control... pathetic.

@Krishna - You're assuming it's still even a thing. Difference is I do not. I would love to be wrong, absolutely celebrate being wrong, but instincts tell me (especially based on Jon's behavior on the forums) this is and always has been purely vaporware. I don't buy shit they're slinging anymore and it was far too coincidental for me to believe they just randomly had an update well scripted, edited, and mastered that dropped as soon as one of the biggest people in our industry both forums, his blog, and on CZcams finally dropped a video of respectful apprehension and questioning the authenticity of their claim. Minute the R8 BT firmware update happens I'm just gonna give my DS1 to a friend or family and run from this company as well as pump the R4/R8 for identical capabilities when that happens. Fool me once...

This answered my question of whether to wait on Theia, or go ahead on the purchase of something else. I had been holding off to see if Theia might be nearly ready, but it clearly is not.
Also, I think they made a MAJOR marketing error in publicizing their technology so far in advance of being ready to ship product.
By the time Theia is actually released to the public, police will no longer be using radar.

It makes sense that Radenso would keep a low profile to prevent their competitors from stealing and developing their technologies and concepts while the Theia project is unavoidably stalled due to parts shortages. Hopefully we will start manufacturing integrated circuits in the USA again soon so we don't have these delays in the future. Meanwhile, I think the SDR / modular design concepts are fascinating. This will make Theia even more supercharged and awesome than it is already. It will be good to see if Theia 2 will have an ability to interface with laser equipment. I'm still super-excited :D

my prediction is that 1 year from now Theia will still be vaporware.
It almost sounds like Theia 2 is going to be 2 boxes. The brain and then the radar module that plugs into it (remotely).
That would be ideal to have that option on a high end detector. If I am spending that money I want to be able to hide and integrate it into the car, not just have it suction cupped to the windshield.

When a company promises they're releasing their new product by the end of the year and THEN WAITS until the end of December to announce it isn't coming and then .....wait for it.....releases a video a year later saying a few more years for Theia 2 (um, did I somehow miss Theia 1???), you couldn't make this stuff up. We'll never see any Theia for the vehicle detector market. They're chasing bigger money and the vehicle radar detector market is small money in comparison.
Expect Jon to have gray hair and Mindy to have normal hair the next time they mention a radar detector for vehicles.

I stopped using Escort Radar and crossed over to Radenso Radar starting with the very functional Radenso Pro M and the Newer DS-1. While I wait to see what happens first, The end of the Ukranian-Russian conflict or Radenso finally making a Theia a reality, I would like Radenso to make updating the DS-1 as simple as the Pro M Updater tool.
That said, sounds like the Theia 2 radar detector won't happen. Uniden's laser jammers should be our new focus. ;)
Well done Sir! Thank you for stirring things up. I have patiently been waiting on Theia since I learned about it on one of your videos YEARS ago but I was starting to think it was dead due to no reports in the last year or so. With this update, I will wait and continue to use my current ancient detector (with all the tractor and lane changing false alerts, since I don't speed;) until Theia is ready.
The defense industry has fallen in love with software defined radio, AI and machine learning threat classification and pretty much everything Jon & crew have been working on. Maybe radar detectors was once his goal and passion, or maybe not. But when you are a small company who have assembled a team of very smart engineers working on very sought after technology that is just applicable to warfare as it is highway safety, you have set yourself up to have insanely large amounts of cash being offered for your and your team… I can assure you that there are other small startup companies, that none of you have heard of because you don’t work in this space, that are all working on similar tech who are vying for that same money. Theia may have just been a well executed marketing stunt, not to attract a niche market of radar detector enthusiasts, but rather other industries with much deeper pockets. Good for Radenso.

That’s a positive! Since radenso isn’t able to use the more expensive high quality components in theia, shouldn’t that then bring down the cost of the end product when Theia is actually finally released it shouldn’t cost $1,500 to $2,000 for a windshield mounted radar identifier?? I understand it’s for the enthusiast but holy cow almost $2,000 for a non legacy radar detector seems a bit extreme! I know they added 5 year protection on the display, and 2 years of warranty coverage instead of just the typical 1 year but that seems crazy!!!
Radenso never announced a price, everyone is basing that off of a google search result that just pulled the price of the pro-m. Radenso has hinted time and time again that the price will be sub 1k yet this silly rumor still is everywhere somehow.

Here's the skinny on Theia, "IF" it would have come to forwishen, it stood to be a game changer in every way, and cornered the market for this type of product, but since covid and the aftereffects of covid happened and the big span of time that has passed by for this elusive device, I'm not sure if Radenso will ever capitalize fully, and be first to market with such of game changing device, because we all know that the other companies that rumble in this arena, are hard at work to be the first, to be that game changer, to take that market share and capitalize on what Radenso miss the boat on, but let's be straight, there's still time until it isn't, Radenso can be a trend setter and leader instead of a follower trying to grab a piece of a market share they could of owned in the first place! in contrasted Tesla.
Would be cool if they also detected police radio frequencies so you can catch them talking on the radio not just running radar

If they changed all the parts so that everything they need can be available now, and since they say they've built the new version with readily available components, then why is the update just saying there is no update and acknowledging that we shouldn't be expecting any actual device to manifest and that we shouldn't even be waiting for additional updates any time soon. They basically just said they know people are anxious and to not worry, but that they won't be making any updates any time soon. If Radenso says not to hold your breath that is is going to be a long time before the next update, we can expect that to mean years, maybe longer.

This technology is already in wide use within the military Electronic Warfare realm. I wonder if they flew too close to the sun. The sun being ITAR, etc.
Regardless of whether or not the reasons for delaying Theia are valid, any company that excites an industry by announcing a revolutionary new product and when its delayed, they don't provide updates, no matter how small, doesn't understand respect for its customers! Supply chain issues and chip shortages aren't the only things that can delay the release of a product like Theia. If something else that's unforeseen has an impact on production, there's no reason to believe that Radenso will overcome the challenge or offer any explanation. The fact is, as a product, Theia didn't exist and Theia 2 doesn't exist. Many people who were hopeful about Theia have moved on and they will long remember how they were treated by Radenso.

Can anyone in the know actually confirm if Radenso is employing the same ppl or have they laid ppl off? I know there was talk last year of at least one person leaving. They also don’t seem to be selling any new products in their website (all or most OOS)
Hey guys I have a question is it illegal to have one of these radars on your windshield I know the radars themselves are not illegal In the US (except for 2 states), but is it illegal to have them on the windshield?

Just subscribed to R Labs - can't wait until they are able to create commercial products. Little worried about their government comments as the tech can be applied to items that are kept quiet to the outside world (us).
I wonder how likely that is. Conversely perhaps some of that funding can help trickle down into more developed and capable products for us consumers… assuming of course that we do eventually get them out n the first place at some point.
I'm not holding my breath. Recession, global warming, and the war in Ukrane will all be potential excuses.

Wow, looking at some of the comments there are folks that just don't get it. I watched @Vortex initial video last night and felt bad for Rodenso immediately. I too was ready to buy Theia upon launch but understood their situation. Perhaps this will help folks understand supply chain. I work for a very large electronics company. I am waiting for finished goods that were ordered back in 2021. Chip shortage (really disc shortage) is caused by the shutdown of one or two suppliers during Covid. In my situation, we need an $11 chip to complete the product. A high commodity low margin item. The supplier of these chooses to build a still high demand chip with a better margin. Hense, until production allows scheduling of the low margin component, we have to allocate and prioritize who gets what. Like it or not not a good position. I can't imagine what a small boutique niche company like Rodenso faced over the last couple of years without the leverage of a large customer with billion$. Kudos to them for finding a new cylinder to fire on. I think they gave more than enough detail about a non-released product to let everyone know what's instore. They deserve some grace.
Great post. Yeah I think a lot of people aren’t believing them that they’re having issues obtaining parts and are assuming they’re lying or something. I can’t speak for Radenso in any way of course, but it’s good to hear that the issues continue to be present for other companies too.
