  • Clothes were used to be made with more attention to detail. But today, mass production and synthetic materials are so pervasive that it’s challenging to find the same level of quality even if you’re willing to pay lots of money. Why?

    Retired from the legal field, and I remember paying a LOT for my professional wardrobe back then. And the quality was wanting even then. I started sewing in the 1970s as a hobby, and now I sew ALL my own clothes. Even my unmentionables. I know exactly what I'm getting, and it's so rewarding. Picking out quality fabric, just the right buttons, etc. -- I love it!! Thinking of opening my own boutique next year, and I'm so excited. You cannot depend on ''brands'' anymore. A polyester designer dress for $500 just doesn't fly with me. Don't even get me started on the bad quality.

      I literally found a 500$ dress, made to look ,,mad max“ like, with fabric strings hanging off of the waist and arms. Now, all fine and dandy, just for the fact that it didn’t have a hem line that would’ve secured these loose strings, meaning that the dress is literally unfinished. Let these strings snag on anything and it’ll come undone within the first time u wear it.
      The dresses on the rack were literally falling apart, some were snagged up to the chest, IN THE STORE, ON THE HANGER! 500$ for what? Trash!

    This video is so needed. Fashion has become the second most polluting industry, topped only by the energy sector! That is shocking and disgusting.
    We need to stop buying synthetic fabrics, take a new look at fur and leather, and just generally stop buying so much. It’s just insane that the least expensive, well made clothes are now Ralph Lauren- far from affordable for most people.

    It’s the reason why I thrift, I got tired of spending my hard earned money on crappy products, even at a discount sometimes when purchased on Black Friday or some sale.

    Gone are the years when the reason why you continue to shop at the same brand is because of quality. I bought a shirt in the 90s and it still fits me, the color still looks good, and the material still holds it's shape. Now, the reason why people continue to shop at the same brand like Shein is because their clothes are cheap even if the items they bought easily gets worn out, damaged, and out dated. I think people need to change their mentality on why they keep choosing to purchase such items only to be thrown out. I think we live in a world where quantity trumps quality, and that social media is feeding us a celebrity type lifestyle that we cannot reuse the same item again and again

    • @barbthegreat586
      @barbthegreat586 Před měsícem +1

      People buy at places like Shein for two reasons. Many are so poor that they can only afford cheap clothes. The second reason is that the quality at far more expensive places is so poor that it make more sense buying at Shein, it's several times cheaper but the quality only 2-'30% lower than far more expensive places. And Shein is just a place without middleman.

    I buy mens clothes and alter tem to fit. Mens clothes are better than women's these days. More often they are 100% cotton or wool with Taped seams and good pockets. I have learned to sew to make then fit my curves.

      Men are accustomed to buying fewer items with the demand of good quality so they’ll last longer. Men haven’t fallen into the trap that more is better and men are avid outfit repeaters so they don’t need or buy a lot of new clothes.

      I just went to a brocante ( don’t know how to say it on english ( im french)), its an event where people sell their stuff like clothes, furnitures, decorative objects etc on the streets. I had hard time to find something nice. A lot of Shein clothes, fast fashion items worn out and ugly etc. Nicer pieces were almost as expensive as in a shop , and it was only few.

    Yes, please do a video on brands that still have good quality. I’ve had good luck lately with the quality of Theory and Sunspel. Keep in mind that many brands (examples: Cos, J Crew, Anthropologie and Everlane) seem to have good quality on some items but terrible quality on others. It’s hard to find a brand that is good across the board, at any price point.

    • @wannabe41
      @wannabe41 Před měsícem +2

      You are so right about consistent quality being as issue even with reputable, mid-range brands. I have to shop with one brand for quality shoes, but shop elsewhere for quality outerwear and the list goes on. I think it’s because more brands are sourcing items from all over and they don’t really care if some of the items they offer are vastly different in quality than their other items.

    • @perspectiveofme
      @perspectiveofme  Před měsícem

      Will do! And you make a good point about inconsistency! Sometimes I get something from a brand (I won't name names) and it's a perfect item. So, I get happy and think I'll buy another thing from them and it ends up being a disaster. I suffered from this a lot but learned my lesson :)

    I’m a guy but watch your videos because they have good content that I don’t find elsewhere. I would love for you to do videos on Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli. Are they overhyped in “quiet luxury”? Does the quality come close to the price? My closet is 99% these two brands, and I find the clothing quality to be amazing, but could I get the same quality elsewhere? Maybe The Row or Luca Faloni? Love the videos even if I’m not the target audience 😅

    I 100% disagree, I came out of the fashion industry and depending on what you buy, I find no difference in the quality. You get what you pay for, so you can't compare the quality from Temu versus buying from Prada. I was shocked when you said the lining was cotton in men's suiting, that is absolute false. I use to engineer men suit plants and I can assure you cotton is never used as lining. Most lining, even with Canali, uses a polyester lining. If they use silk, the lining wears out too fast. Cotton is too stiff.
    A good cotton t-shirt you can buy from Uniqlo, Old Navy or even the GAP, don't compare that with SHEIN. You just need to know about fabric and garment construction.
