Just scrolling through comments and decided to weigh in.
As others have said I subscribed for the builds. Those are the videos I enjoy the most. But why I subscribed and why I click every video I see isn’t the same. Over time I’ve come to enjoy the personality you display and I love that you use this platform as a way to point people to God.
It seems to me that when content creators make the content other people want they don’t do their best work. When you make the videos that you want to make the videos will almost always be better. If product reviews are the videos that excite you right now, then I look forward to them.
I appreciate your feedback! Thank you 👊
I’ve been a fan for awhile but the main reason I watched you was for the builds now it’s turned into a tool review show 😞😞😞 bring back the builds ❤
Wow. Reading reviews can bring you up and down in the same paragraph! I have to say I like the tool review videos. The energy and passion that obviously goes into each one. I hope you have a great day and keep doing what you do!
I have the old rubber mallet from my father. I cherish the things that I was able to have after his passing. They have a special place in my heart.
So, I’ll add to why I use Swanson squares.
Not only are they affordable and easily available.
I have a vision condition which makes reflective surfaces and specular lighting a serious issue. These Swanson squares have the best finish for my vision that I can grab off the shelf and the numbers are easy to read.
I wish Swanson had more fancy products as well. I appreciate the non-reflective finish, un-colored finish, and easy to read markings.
I bought a Milwaukee trim square years ago. It was less than $10 and is always in my apron pocket. Amazing how handy it is. It has pencil slots to draw lines at certain times.
Congratulations, an outstanding presentation of affordable tools.
I always enjoy your videos. I learn what I want to make and what new tools are available. Keep up the good work and don't worry about the naysayers. They will always be there. You have more viewers who appreciate you than the others. God bless you!!!
Awesome, thank you!
Hate to be mean but can you do something like make stuff for a change that’s why I’m sure a lot of us subscribed well maybe not a lot but why I did. Just looking forward to a build video for a change. Have a great day
Great tips as always Matt thanks for sharing
You bet!
love your videos and expecially your t-shirts
Thank you! 👍
You're welcome!
Hey Matt, new viewer and subscriber here. I like your video format and I’m going through older ones now with lots of great information. Former law enforcement, new to woodworking, and I come from a military family, so I appreciate your attitude and reverence for the blue.
Thank you Don! I appreciate your service!
Thanks Matt! I've been thinking about a digital height gauge for awhile now. I think the one you showcased fits the bill nicely! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
😂😂😂 “The day we met…” Thank you for leaving this in! 😂😂 Love the photo of you and the screwdriver! Hahaha!!
lol my editor did a great job there! It was hilarious!
Yeah I should take a picture with my table saws
Thumbs up for that 'day we met' photo. That had me going pretty good! Lol. Before I got into woodworking, the Swanson speed square was my favorite tool. Big fan, I would have loved a Swanson combination square. This may not be the case but my biased opinion tells me that it would have been better than my old empire and Johnson!
Best screwdriver set I have is a Stanley triangular handle (I dont think they are made any more), the most positive "grip" of any screwdriver I've used; ergonomic function over round-handled tradition
Milwaukee has had a small trim square forever. They normally have the 4.5 and 7 inch as a bundle on black friday for $15-$20
The Milwaukee trim square is awesome and it's under $14 at Home Depot.
Watching these vids makes me wanna just build things right now lol..
I was thinking the day you ment Mrs. 731 personaly and do you have any tools that kept up in that time frame?
MATT! What were you thinking when you did this video? You just sunk my battleship. 68 years of collecting tools and then you say with my wife watching & listening that they are worthless! I quote”Worth pennies on the dollar”! I just bought the 3M sander! Do I need to say more? Then again I quote “towing a U-Haul behind a hearst. OMG. I have a massive collection of mechanical and woodworking tools that span decades. I told her your idea of “tell her they are for safety “ after I ran up my Visa bill over at Tay Tools. BTW….Why weren’t you in church this morning? You need to do a DO OVER. Tell all the wives & significant others of us hard working dust covered men & women that you miss spoke and tools are like Aunt Martha’s Tea Service set hold their value and are an investment for decades to come. Part of our families heritage….. Man…. It was going so well. My newer Festool Kpaex is worth pennies?? I can kiss my new set of iguaging Squares set of 15 measurement blocks & 123 block good bye. I get the entire thrust of your Sunday Morning sermon but maybe you could just ratchet it back a few clicks. PLEASE!
Howdy Mornin Mr. 731....
I've used those Swanson squares forever and a day (or two....or three 😅). Simple, cheap, easy. Gets the job done, right....cause we ain't building a clock, lol. If it's .005 or heck, even .05 out of square, in all honesty, you'll never really know or notice.
I will however mention that I've UPGRADED those squares. Yeap. A whole $5 dollars and started using Empire squares. HAHAHA!!! For me, it wasn't a "better quality" type of upgrade...It was having a Blue contrasting color that I went for cause those Swansons....Man, they're like pencils in my shop. I set it down and it dissappears as soon as I turn my back. I SWEAR I've got Shop Gnomes 🙄 that love to mess with me.
I'm loving your Editor Mr. 731...Turns your up the volume on your humor by adding in subtle things like that flag waving. I like that. 😊
I still believe you ought to do one of these 5 minute "TOOL Review" videos on "Pencil Sharpeners". And for that matter, the actual Pencil itself. Leave mechanical pencils out altogether...Just focus on "Old School". Hand crank vs. electric. Cheapo box of #2 Walmart pencils vs. drafting pencils.
Believe it or not, but not all Erasers are built the same....some just smear the graphite, others actual WORK.
Think about it Mr. Buttons....It's an easy "Tool" review...Doesn't cost much for You to aquire samples and it gives you ANOTHER video to put out there quickly and gain views. 😊...
The ones we had back in School...You can't buy "New" anymore. The company doesn't exist anymore. There's still some available on Ebay though.
I use a hand crank one made by Exacto. Works great. Same shape and function as the ones we used in school. I think it cost me about $20 bucks on Amazon.
Buy one. Try it out. Feel those school year memories soak back into your mind, haha. And, in the end...You could link them for people to buy at Amazon. How many of "us" old school" people you got following you? 🤔
ALOT!!!!
Loved the video Mr. Buttons. Pat your Editor on the back. Love the "Flag" wave bit, made me laugh.
Thank you Mike! Great idea! Old school style video might be a good addition to the video content!
Just want to say "Thank You" for keeping us informed of tools.
Thanks Matt. I had to pick up that iGaging Digital Router Gauge.
The Craftsman tools of today may not be the tools of years past, but they still seem to be fairly good quality. I had a ratchet that my dad had given me in a tool set when I graduated college and headed out on my own. Let's just say this was in the early to mid 1980s. 🙂 About 6 months ago the ratchet lost a couple teeth. I went online and found a Craftsman website and got to support. I sent them an email asking if they still had lifetime warranty on 1980 vintage tools. They replied within a couple days asking me to send them a picture of the ratchet showing the part number engraved on the handle. I complied and a day later I got an email saying a new one was in the mail. I got it about 4 or 5 days later. I hope this one last another 39 years and I am around to see if it had a lifetime warranty.
.As for the digital gauge; ".. set it up with that digital accurracy"? As an architect who has practice before "Cad"was a thing, I've always said since computers were introduced (2D Cad) to the Construction Industry; "with computers you can get it very accurate wrong". I stand to be corrected, but too many who model something in 3D think that it can therefore be built...
In case of screwdrivers and other handtools of this type I learned to spend more on Wiha, Wera or Knipex (yeah, Im European and like that german engineering and quality).
That depth gauge looks good - may have to get one.
And yeah - don't ever buy a $100 square for woodworking...
The expensive square (woodpeckers) is square for a lifetime feels great.
There is a reason woodpeckers cost more and is beloved by many.
The DFM squares are nice. I've never had good luck with Swanson combination squares. Mine have never been dead on 90 degrees.
swanson combo squ is good, but make sure it is square
I don't mind knock off as much but change the color. (looking at the wood peckers knockoff)
So when did you meet Mrs 731 😊
We actually met in elementary school but never spoke lol - first date was 7-31-99!
Hey Matt, i was watching one of your videos, and you said you were a former State Trooper. Ive been watching you forever and didnt know this. Thank you for your service and woodworking tips!
The link for the Swanson Trim and Combination Square Combo, go to the Full size Swanson Speed Square (About 8 inches tall) and a 12 inch combo square
I think the others sold out
I just bought them as separate items from Home Depot for $21.25 tax included.
How in the world did you get my rubber mallet.. I swear mine looks exactly identical down to the white spots.
🤣
link is for larger Swanson speed square and 12" combo square
Looks like smaller ones are sold out now.
Still a heretic, using a screwdriver form factor bit driver, either bare or with a 3"/6" extension. 😉 The iGauging Router & Saw Guage is very tempting.
Could not agree more about the mallet. I FINALLY made one after several years. It took very little time to make as it's a very very simple design; literally a block of scrap oak that i cleaned up, routed the edges, drilled a hole and stuck a piece of one inch dowel in it. I use it all the time now that i have it.
I know you get a lot of flak for the affiliate game. I don’t mind so much. However, as feedback I’ve purchased most of my tools from affiliate links when they are actually used for a project. Take a few of your new items, and make something. Then when complete, do a raffle or something and donate the proceeds. You can write off the work for the build and filming, then keep the affiliate money. Ask your accountant.
Love your shirt!!
They’re smoking something good thinking ima spend 130 bucks on a 4.5 inch square
Does that German company make a $1000 speed square I can buy? It would be expensive, but hey - the dust collection...
Let’s build a x wing fighter
Where can I find that pencil you have in the combination square part?
Amazon. Pentel GraphGear 1000
These are all useful tool (and I have some of them) but all I'm going to remember from this video is "the day we met" picture 😂
🤣
What on God's green earth is a "price point"? I assumed from the contexts of users kindasorta might hereabout mean price range, price level, justabout hereabout category, etc. Since the Webster word definition types do not clearly address the term, I checked Urban Dictionary. Here is their response: "bullshit speak for " 'price' ", in common use by real estate industry " 'professionals' " to emphasize a limited vocablary"
I dig that you keep the goof ups in the video, but a fun editing idea if you have credits to run at the end is to save them for that. Love the content
I remember when I first met Festool, it was love at first sight. 😁
Old #tubafour new #DayWeMet
Instead of complaining about your content, I'm just gonna ask: where's your Hater's Guide to Kobalt?
🤔 might be worth exploring… Thanks!
You can be sure your wife has seen this video😂
I got to say man eight out of your last 10 videos have been reviews/product pitches and things like that which is great to get your money. But I don't really watch your channel for you to pitch me ideas so you can line your pocket. If you turn into an infomercial you're going to lose viewers.
I appreciate the feedback. Was just trying to show some good budget option tools.
Hey man, we are all here rooting for you. You are a good dude, and on top of that a believer and you wear it on your sleeve which I would bet a lot of us really appreciate. It's just been a lot of affiliate link/review videos lately. Most of us get it too, you're making great money and we don't want to stop you from doing that. At nearly 500k in audiences I bet you are making more money now than you ever have or at least seeing some serious coin drop into your bank account. Thats cool, thats what I love/and hate about youtube. I like your videos, and I like you. It's really the only reason I didn't just turn off notifications. Take it for all its worth... maybe my opinion is not worth much, maybe it is. It's just been a lot lately. I am sure others would agree don't stop, just a few less and toss in some projects would be nice. God bless you brother in whatever you decide. @@731Woodworks
I love your product videos, and I’ve never felt you’re just a shill pushing products. You always come from contribution and you provide honest opinions. You might lose viewers and you might gain others. You certainly won’t lose me. Keep it up!!
You say it's cheap, but you don't say what the cost is on all items.😪
April 20th 2019. The day I met my Sawstop. ❤
Hey my guy, love your channel but you’re doing way too many “5 products you need to check out” videos. I miss the old shop improvement and building videos. I’m sorry man but I’m out after this video
later ✌🏻
@@-11BRAVO- He said he was out. I was saying goodbye. Not trying to be disrespectful. If it came across that way, I apologize. I gave a full detailed explanation of my decisions in your other comment thread.
@@-11BRAVO- Shame on you for negativity in this. We have never claimed to be perfect - we are sinners just like everyone else. There has ever only been one man to walk this earth sinless and even he was crucified. Matt gets hit with some very ugly and disrespectful things and he, for 99% of those, turns a blind eye to it and prays for those people. Since when it is a disrespectful thing to tell someone peace out? What a hypocrite you are. Now, I am sure you will come after me too. That’s ok. I am good with that. I will never look in the mirror and see guilt for what I am telling you. I would love to see your response back to someone after you get hit with some of the comments he has. You say a lot of people are tired of these videos. Our analytics tell us another story. So, go ahead, say something else negative. I can promise you this - for every ugly comment he gets, he gets 100 more positive comments! Play with those stats! Oh and by the way, peace out - signed, a proud wife of an AMAZING WOODWORKER!!!
@@-11BRAVO- If you feel like I chastised you for having another opinion, then that is something you will have to work out with yourself. I stand behind everything I said. There may be a reason you feel chastised….
@@AmysOCD"Turn the other cheek," he says. Don't you just love it when non-Christians try to use their empty and superficial conceptions of scripture against us? The combination of arrogance and ignorance is always hilarious.
The day I met this screwdriver I knew it was. 😂😂😂 on a serious note that screwdriver is just like us we may be discolored and and some nicks and scratches but God still accepts us just as we are.
I think the woodpeckers rip off rulers should not be advertised.
get back to what you used to do
I've always done tool videos. The first several videos on my channel were about tools. So I am doing what I used to do, just more often.
