    Honda has good honest designs not intended to prevent DIY, channel repairs to dealerships, increase repair bills to increase profits. A reflection of their culture.
    As many have said and experienced in Japan you can drop your wallet in a super busy train station with lots of money and you can collect it at the station office with everything as you left it.

    Good video! I would have added that it's a good idea to blow away loose debris and rust before removing.

    Nice video but big word of caution, you should have wiped down then vacuumed the top area of the pump, there was a ton of rust and crud. Also a mistake laying the pump over the tank opening such that crud from pump falls in or crud from trunk falls in, keep it covered while testing.

  • @TheWwong
    @TheWwong Před 8 lety +23

    Its nice that you don't have to drop the tank to get access to the fuel pump.

    separate black cable from battery. open fuel cap to release pressure. clean area scrupulously around gas pump plate first. then remove the small bolts, then place rag under gas lines to catch gas that will leak out. unclip gas lines/pull off. gently lift out assembly which will drain gas so have rag or bucket ready.

I didn’t see correctly which pint you put those alligator clips on and should I get the same reading for my sending unit?

    If your pump uses the big plastic screw nut to hold the pump in, don't ever use an aftermarket one. Only reuse the original Honda or buy a new Honda part. Aftermarket nuts will crack making a very dangerous even deadly situation for you or a customer.

      +LeakyDiaper. Hey buddy, what do you mean by the big plastic nut? I bought an after market fuel pump for our 98 Honda Accord & it's worked fine for over 5 years now....

  • @montydaniels1054
    @montydaniels1054 Před 7 lety +1

    The problem with Honda Accords is yeah, nice if the bolts aren't rusted because I replaced the bolts 5 years ago & now an 8mm socket only spins on the head of the bolts. So far a 11/32 socket got 1 off, so I'll have to use a little smaller SAE socket, or vise grips, [smaller size]. Bad thing with 97-02 Accords is all of the parts you have to remove if the tank is leaking & you have to remove it. Today, if I can get the pump out, I'll try one time to use the inner tank repair kit. If it'll work till next summer, then I'll drop the tank but with a bad back, this weather is killing me, to no end....

      @@billsmith2212 Yep Bill, I ended up going and picking up another set of bolt extractors. My son decided to borrow my 1st set while I was gone that afternoon..... I was actually surprised at the amount of rust being tucked away in the trunk, that access cover shouldn't have got all rusty but it was, oh well, at least i was able to get it with the extractor's..... Probably good I bought the 2nd set. I was missing the 2 sockets that fit brake caliber bleeder valves....

      Pull the fuse to the pump first. If you have a car that runs most of the time, run it till the tank is about empty. My grandson filled 3/4 even though I told him he had a leak in the tank & keep it under 1/2 tank. Now he dropped it off & I'm stuck trying to empty the tank once I pull the pump out. What my grandson doesn't understand is in order for me to do the work, I have to get into the trunk & you wanna talk about dangerous!!! I can't think of a worse place to be stuck trying to get out of in a hurry is this 98 Accord.... What a guy....

    Does one need to drop a tank on a 97 Accord? only the sending unit that tells the gas gage fuel level is under the cover in the trunk

    • @lufia1624
      @lufia1624 Před 2 lety

      94-97 Accords have an access in the trunk like this for the sending unit, but the fuel pump seems to be separate and I'm seeing stuff about cutting into the unibody under the back seat to get at it without dropping the tank (I have a 1995). Still doing my research; hoping the sending unit is what gave up...
