Thank you so much! I drive a 2000 Accord coupe with 5-speed and have had issues with the car stalling and not starting. I'd narrowed it down to the fuel pump not always engaging, but just replaced the pump and filter 6 months ago! The fuel pump wouldn't engage even after waiting for five to ten minutes, until I "jiggled" the clutch a bit. After watching this video, I looked for the fuel relay, and found it dangling on top of my clutch. Every time I "jiggled" the clutch, it was "tapping" the relay to make the connection.
After taking out the old relay, I heard audible "clunking" when I shook it lightly. Definitely bad solder; nothing should be moving on the inside of the relay!
After 6 hrs of being stuck in this parking lot this video saved me.

I watched this about a year and decided to buy one and leave in my trunk. Last night after work I try to drive the 32 miles home but the 2000 Accord wont start. I first tapped the fuel pump if it was seized up but no help. I then decided to pull the main relay out and after an awful time of getting my over 230 6 foot tall self upside down and in there. I finally got it apart and replaced. BOOM STARTED

I was having on and off problems with my idle and power from a standing start. Then on occasion my 02 Accord SE would die at Stops. Thought it was a Fuel pump but after viewing posts like this one I decided to replace the Relay! This video explained it perfectly. I made the change with a new Fuel Pump Relay and it solved the problem! Thank you Sir!

I purchased a new relay from a parts store. You could try to get one used from a junk yard but that's rolling the dice if it works or not.

Thank you! The stock relay didn't remove as easily as yours. I had to bend the metal it hung on by a little because it wouldn't have any clearance.
How did you bend it
I too experienced the same issue with removal. Since I am the original owner of my 1999 Honda Accord EXV6, I like to kept things mint. Which means not breaking clamps or clips. Since I was unable to remove the unit by hand. I removed the bracket that holds the main relay, and also has an oval hole for the retaining clip to be inserted. You will need a small open/ closed end wrench for this task.
Now, taking the main unit out of the bracket is an issue. Since I am replacing the complete unit. I can chop away at the casing to set it free.
Getting back to the video. A huge kudos!. It explains where the fuel pump main relay unit is located. I contacted Honda first to find the location. Would you believe they told me that it was located to the right of the steering wheel?????? WTF!!!!!
It would be nice if CZcams would allow responders to upload pictures of their findings when performing mechanical work on their vehicles. Like they do on eBay and amazon.

If you apply enough force when you pushing the sensor up it will come off, also wiggle the sensor back and forward will help

This video helped alot, i almost unplugged the wrong thing since theres a plug in there that looks like the main relay for a mustang. Pulling out was difficult however, had to lat on the seat feet on the headrest and pull it from the bracket (which it got real friendly with) and then peel it slowly up like a lego with my nail since the screwdriver didnt work and finally to find out i didnt have an oem relay. just replaced mine. Got an OE new for $70 on eBay. I think the classic symptom is "crank, no start" in hot ambient conditions. (with No CEL on bulb check)
Got an 02 TL Type S that out the blue doesn’t start anymore. Gonna try this tomorrow before I part it out. They say sometimes the solder in the back of the relay burns out. I’ll keep you updated. Thanks for the video bro 💪🏾

@@BulletSolano thanks for the response. The car has a brand new battery, and I just finished replacing all ignition parts, timing belt & water pump, adjusting valves, etc. The engine runs flawlessly, has great power, and gets as good a fuel economy as it ever has.
if you open up the relay you can check for cracked solder joints and reflow the solder and replace with new, may be a cheaper fix instead of replacement, depending the the electrical failure of the piece.

Love your Honda videos! Very helpful! You rock! Pretty sure this is what's happening with my 2001 accord LX. Doesn't start when the interior gets too hot. When that happens I wait around 5 mins and let the window down and then I try again and the fuel pump and CEL will turn on.

Mine does the same too when hot. I learned I can wiggle it, and then it works.
The problem is intermittent start and no start is caused by expansion and contraction of the circuit board that’s after driving for and you stop for 10-15 minutes and it won’t restart until car is cold again

My 1999 accord will crank but not start. It also will not allow me to shift out of park. Put screw driver in release and shifted into neutral. Will not start in neutral. Break lights are working. Come back 20 minutes later, it is ok.

Thank you for posting this. Being a chick and trying to work on my own car has been challenging as all my guy friends don't think I know what to do....poor little me. LOL Seriously, thanks. I did go to a pull apart junkyard and got a couple relays off of some hondas that seemed to be in much better shape than mine. Hopefully this will do the trick. I have a 99 accord coupe that I stupidly ran a little low on my gas. As a general rule, a car that old I would never let it go below a quarter tank of gas...i mean never. Well I did run it slightly lower trying to get to the gas station. It started bogging down as I accelerated not even a mile from the gas station. Since then I have had issues keeping it running while driving. It usually (not every single time) cranks just fine and only sometimes boggs down as I'm accelerating. AAA just towed it to the house a few hours ago so I can finally go try out this relay situation. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key, but do not hear clicking in the relay. That's what led me to your video which is by far the best one i've seen yet. I'm heading outside to try out one of the other relays I got before I start pulling off parts HAHA. I'll post back shortly and give you an update on whether or not I was successful. Fingers crossed.
***On a different note, my Accord has some really old tint on it that I would love to remove. I can't even see out the back window at night. Do you have any advice on removing old tint? I know there will be old nasty adhesive still on the window...if you happen to have any tips on removing that, it would be great! Hey, great job on the video. Thanks again!

If you try to remove old window tint go to Walmart or any auto parts store they sell some old tint remover kit try that

If it has the same amount of terminals I think so, check if yours has 5 or 4 terminals, it should work, but just to be safe get the right one for your vehicle

how do I get the bottom panel of the dash off so it is easy to get to the relay? I am a very large man. Just that bottom panel. I also will need to get the driver seat back so I can have more room. I am searching, but cant find a video of how to remove just that bottom panel so I can get at the relay a little better. Thanks for your videos, this is the best one.

Probably but make sure it has spark, if not distributor will be your next step
@BulletSolano Funny thing is I had my fuel pump replaced about 4 months ago by a mechanic. Than it stopped running so I figured I'd do it myself and it ran for a bit but only on hot days it won't start. When it's cool in the morning it starts right up

Our 1998 Accord (with 120K miles) stalls sometimes. I have replaced ignition switch and distributer. Usually runs great. Could the relay be intermittent? It seems like a fuel problem. After a few minutes it will start and run fine. Thanks for your advice.

Hey, i notice that the1st time i got up one morning and the car would'nt start, i cleaned the battery terminals and changed them too, but nothing haapened. I then got some gas because i was wondering if my relay or the pump was reading incorrectly and i was right. Even though my tank had quater of gas based on the reading of my dashboard. The tank was empty. When i got gas, it started. The second time it happened, i was driving and the car felt as if it wanted to shout off and dye but after kept pressing gas the car drove until it totally died. Not sure, but i wondering if this is the solution to the problem?

For the life of me I can't get the relay unit to come out. I've tried jamming that little button in with a screwdriver and pushing up until the bracket bends but it doesn't want to budge. It's so frustrating.

Most of the time my car starts fine, everything i drive it once a week. Every now and the ill turn the ignition and and i can't hear the pump. Ill keep trying eventually it will start. Are there fuses specific to cars? I searched online and found a 15A OEM Honda fuse on EBay, but when I input my make and model it said it wouldn't fit.
It depends on what fuse you’ll need, and yes fuses are specific, easies way is to remove the fuse, take it to any auto parts store to get the same one!! Because some are shorter than other ones and they have different voltage

Yes, turn the key to the on position, if you can’t hear the pump probably that’s your problem or the main relay, check the main relay for resistance

Okay cause I changed my spark plugs wires and disturber and rotor and it was running great for me all day today then when I turnt it off went to start it 15 min later and no start but when I left it alone for about 2 hours started right up no problem so should I just get the rely and try?

Replace that fuel pump relay, the problem with that relay is when it gets hot, even if you can hear the relay, get it replaced
