I like F3 torps too, but I use Expert Marksman instead of TAE, F3 torps mitigate the reload time
Shimakaze guns are insanely good with the upgrade and EM.
Also, vigilance and the acceleration upgrade to react to torpedoes in smoke.
Nice video showing that shimakaze is not an invalid ship after the torpedoes nerf.
I use the F3 torps as well [the guns too!] but I also use the captain skill Torp Acceleration. So my torp speed is 81 knots instead of 76. It's basically danger close range but with concealment expert I have a small window of stealth to launch the torps and to watch the fireworks.

Before they re-did the IJN DD torpedoes making Torpedo Acceleration a totally useless skill, I used to run my Minekaze (and Fujin and Kamikaze R) with Concealment Expert, Survival Expert , Torpedo Acceleration, and Torpedo Arming Expert. Those torpedoes were MEAN! 73 kt screamers but with only a 5.6 km range. The tiny 0.2 km "stealth torpedo window" made for some fun games.
I am pretty close to getting the Shimakaze, less than 70k XP, and it will be interesting to see how she plays compared to the other tier 10 DD's.
I use my IJN DD's guns a lot, but it is hard to get used to the proper lead. I am very used to USN DD guns and Russian DD guns don't take a whole lot of getting used to, but IJN DD's guns are somewhere in between when it comes to lead.

Flamu, what`s your opinion on the revealed new IJN DDs? Primarily I`m talking about Akizuki line ending at tier 8. With a more emphasis on guns in this new branch what`s your opinion on how they`ll perform?
Also what do you think of DDs with small amounts of torpedoes? (Less than 5)? A lot of British DDs have no more than one quad rack and the Akizuki also only has single quad rack. I personally think it`ll be tough for the IJN gun boats since they're guns still aren`t totally up to par with their counterparts and lack the sizable torpedo armament of the main IJN DD branch.
what a coincidence,! I've played yesterday a game with my Kagero running F3s, and scored over 110k on 8 torp hits.I'm not that comfortable running them on the Shima, as Kagero has got the extra 500m concealment buffer. But as I see, if you play well that is not such a massive issue as I personally consider it to be and the difference in the amount of launchers seems to more than make up for it :)

what do you think about giving up concealment expert for WD40 and extra smoke? I play aggressively as well, because it is more fun even tho I die some time and most of the time if it is a cruiser heavy game. I also agree that keeping IJN DD at a longer range is more effective in knife fight since USN DD guns are slow at longer range. for my DD captain, I would rather be spotted and start keeping the distance than see a USN DD at 5.9km and take a turn away, which may further closing up the distance to 3.8km if it is an head-on engagement. Can you tell me what do you think about that? Do you still think keep that 0.6km of concealment is better?

Use the F3 Torps AND run them with the Torpedia Acceleration captain skill ;-)
Should go 81 knots then... and have a fantastic 6,4km range. Probably makes every attack a yolo run.

That would be hilarious, spotted DDs will not have time to evade those torp, don't play/duel With Gearing/Fletcher, just delete them With torps
Is it possible to use good the TA with the F3 ? still at Hatsuharu with a 17points commander, i try to launch the torps at the last moment.
With training, are the 81 knots torp good ?
Hey Flamu. At the moment I am using Type 93 mod3 + torpedo acceleration so I get 72 knots torps and 9.6 km range. With this setup I have the best damage and i think the lowest detection range. From my point of view, the problem with shima is not the changes. The problem is that there are lots hight tier American and Russian dds and you are forced to go very close on enemy line. Plus mostly tier 9 and 10 players afraid of getting killed and have to pay lots of credits, so they play very defensive. I can understand your frustration on A flag because it happened to me loots of times :s
Next patch the reload on the ship will be buffed to 5.7s, much stronger.

I recommend WG to replace all three gun turrets with torpedoe launchers. F3 Shima does not need guns.

How can your IJN DD have guns? I never see guns on IJN DDs, which makes them a delicious target.

Yeah Shima is fun and all with the 8km torps, the problem is, that this way you are playing a T8 version of the Khabarovsk. Which is bad. Its called the Tashkent.

I do not blame BBs for, what you call, being "cowardly" because most DDs do not play the way you do. God knows how many times I died for trusting my DD.
The one thing I really hate about WoWS is the "funnus interruptus" built into every battle. As soon as the battle begins to get really fun and the cumulative results of the skirmishes are netting interesting results, but before the battle can end in an intense crescendo of destruction, it will just end.
Your, or the enemy's, impending doom is canceled because points. We all know winning because a counter ticked enough times is far more fun than winning by sinking ships. I missed out on all kinds of double strikes and krakens because of the game suddenly ending in mid-battle, not to mention just plain fun due to this fun-killing game mechanic
I am continuously reminded of Bugs Bunny and the gremlin not crashing the plane they were in because they ran out of gas before hitting the ground and therefor "couldn't" crash. Except that was funny, the game ending as soon as it gets interesting is just annoying. It makes the last few minutes of the game pointless and anticipating an anticlimax regardless I begin to lose interest if not engaged with the enemy. If I am engaged I usually feel annoyed that the battle was not allowed to continue, even the shells and torpedoes stop dead.

Cowards in high tiers who flee at the first sign of trouble. Or the cowards in Arkansas Betas that sit in the back and snipe at 14km with HE. Both are just free damage for their opponents.

Im a BB player, but i refuse to sit in the back and ill tank alot of damage, sadly the comment "DDs/Cruisers dont do their job" is often quite accurate. the times i am in the front line with any BB is happening more often than i want, hench my survival rate is not as good as i want it to be but atleast ill have some aggresive fun.
What is it with 90% of the IJN DD players and not using their guns? Im at Kagero now and play it like a gunboat as well. Other IJN DDs just refuses to shoot back with the guns :P
ClydeThaMonkey The guns on the minekaze are so bad. Basically early tier reaches them the guns are useless and they never try it on higher tiers.
Not just the minekaze's, mutsuki has even worse guns, and the hatsuharu isnt that much of an upgrade either.

All is good and everything untill u meet cv. With cv this build is totally useless. U are too close to enemy ships and good cv will just send his planes your way and kill u. And u don't have enough time to run away...
BB player absolutely useless for now.
