- Shimakaze is probably one of my most played ships, as it's one of the original destroyers in the game. The question is, can it still carry in the current meta?

That's usually my story. I have the worst luck when it comes to this game. It's maddening.
Still better than my story: "my team has 0 kills, I have 0 kills"...

3 mins into game, my team has 0 kills, enemy has 4 kills :/
Its not that the flanks collapse or team mates die, the huge issue is that they die without doing anything significant leaving the enemy ships near full HP for the rest of the team to deal with.
players like the venezia have more reason than anyone else to just uninstall. How big of a moron do you have to be to die that quick in a cruiser that literally has a engine smoke? how did that GK up north let a Kremlin literally hump his balls without getting the ram? who knows....

Its possible, however unlikely to deplete a CVs air wings if he just keeps throwing the same squadron at your Flak wall 2 or 3 times in a row. If they don't throw the same squadron more then once and rotate though then they never get "deplaned".
@@jaywerner8415 Nah, the allied carrier was a midway. Midway and Haku have been so powercrept they're pretty much useless now a days, as is evidenced by their WR. The Midway only lost a (relatively) significant number of planes to the heavy hitting AA ships like DM, Puerto Rico, and Kremlin, but was deplaned none the less after it lost the couple dozen planes it has

As someone who played cvs and did fairly well with them, i was just making a comment based on my experience. honestly I haven't played wows in a while and have no interest in getting back so idk what things are like now, nor do I care, but when I made that comment, I meant they were power crept by Russian CVS and the ever increasing aa stats cooked up on new ships to deal with them(which they didn't, weegee shot itself in the foot there) and other premium carriers, which they were. Haku was practically obsolete and midway was on its way there last time i played. When I played in anything other than some floating damage sponge like gk or Yama, I wasn't afraid of midway or Haku at all lol.
The only time you need to worry about them is if they are being played by some unicum, but then you need to worry about any ship those guys are playing
When Flamu plays Shima: CV never spots him, gets 7 kills, loses.
When I play Shima: CV finds me hiding between 3 AA cruisers, I immediatly suffer detonation from a cross map secondary by a grounded German BB, team reports me for dying. Come back to comp later, that game was a win.

Shima is a bit like German BBs. As a good player you'll get constantly underestimated because the average Shima enjoyer is so bad.
True that. 90% of shima players are 1/10 line potatoes that dke the first time they get spotted

To some level good Shima games are dependent on team comp, if you have to fight against gunboat DDs your gameplay is entirely different.
God forbid a Ragnar or Smaland is up against you

M8 been a silent watcher for years thank you. Not sure how much you are aware but you are the best teacher, without even trying, effortless. This vid is so good from that perspective. Too often I make bad decisions in trying too hard for my team and realise it’s not just me. I love the old aspects. Sadly I quit playing WoT due greed & stupidity from WG and sadly WoWS is going down the same path.
Yes, I play it very often, and Shima can impact the game for a win. AS long u as a DD support to cruisers, and spot for BBs. But half of the time, the same team left Shima alone against a whole flank, after that they blame Shima for the loss LOL

zao is very good imo
shima is one of the most powerful ships in the game, always has been. Even with all the hydro, planes, radar, gunboat dds, fast dds that have been added, it can still absolutely dominate if played well.

Great game for you and it gives me some encouragement to continue to grind the Shima. Like you said, it was a tough call to continue north to engage Yamato, but I think after you killed the Kremlin it would have been good to turn back towards the cap zones.
Heartbreak games like that make me feel a bit better, thank you.
At least the because the CV can strike from outside AA range that means he also strikes from outside your spotting range.

In all honesty the only thing you may could have done different was to only use one torp set on that Kremlin and two on the Yamato to save some time. But like you said you would have needed 3/5 torps on Kremlin and 7/10 on Yamato which also could have resorted in killing none of them if they slightly change course and making them aware of your position. Team just sucked, but well played!
Sad game bro, thats why timing is everything sometimes. You pinged them before you go north to move but they were sniping, if they pushed the left flank that you cleared from dd before or when you left to hold the right flank it would be a victory. Bourgogne no idea why he did that and also the right flank was a bunch of suiciders. Really great game for u and really sad to be a defeat. Its really extreme to here a player with 7 kills, 166k spoting dmg and 2 caps wondering if it was a good choice to go and hold a whole flank and kill 3 ships while the rest of your team has no idea where, who, what and how. So many great tips in every game u make about positioning torping predicting etc. Welldone again

Going north was ok, like you said in mid there was 3x potential radars - very nice play :)
Btw i also have such battles where as DD i did everything i could but my team just keeps dieing - it's so frustrating especially when you have to win to get last 3 daily BP missions to complete :/

I fired Torpedoes, I hit two things, but they weren't what I was aiming for so I guess I missed

the worst or dumbest part is that the montana was in cap so by turning he was leaving the cap, that gives even more no sense to that decision

These games feel so bad. Could you imagine if any of your BBs had a few extra good salvos, it was close enough to where that could have decided the win. Yet they couldn't do it to save their lives. An average shima would've fucked up earlier and the game would've been over 10 minutes sooner; the all too common blowout

Because no one can get Somers anymore. She has been removed from the armory/research. Same reason for Thunderer, Smalland and others
torp captain always be like "why? what?" their target, time to gamer turn and show full broadside to enemy ship. the playerbase is the reason why torp is so much harder to predict, because professional are predictable, but amateur are not.

Average 2023 match with tier 11 machine guns, radars, cv...All we need are a sub in there and a fake cv ( hybrid) and we can call this speedrun to port for the majority of the playerbase.

CV will always go for your target to make him dodge , cuz playing cancer is not enough you need also actively make people hate these game

An elite player can carry a game in the Krasny Krym so yes a Shima can carry with the right player behind it.
in 2:00 you standing for 5 minutes still and no one detecting you,how can you know that you are undetectable still?
It's just such an annoying feeling with this game when you did EVERYTHING in your power to win. You seriously did EVERYTHING you could possibly do. But couldn't win. Cuz too many useless players on your team. One person can make the plays but if the team can't execute on it... lose. The critical analysis at the end is valid sure, and I feel it's kinda founded off the problem of doing so much right but still losing your just left like "How??? How do we lose that??" but how much more could you possibly do? Honestly this comes down to just having a pathetic team. You did more right than wrong.

Wow, superb by the shima player, shame about the rest of the team.
looked like the typical "warpack-turn" at the start. If one pays attention, one can see, that it is still in kinda wide usage (even in..hum... well known clans), or maybe warpackers are more likely to stay in the game, while just the dumb-none-cheat-using-solo-players leave in frustration over cvs and subs and money-milking and try-hard purple troll divs, who only play for their winrate and nothing else.
But i've seen no-hydro ships in the open (whithout any means to detect or any support close enough) doing a slalom drive through cross torps . And the dead-give away is, when a player is starting to turn the moment your torps get launched for an entire match whithout you once switching out of torp-aim-modus to not trigger the PT - even delaying the launches in case he would countdown your torp reload - and then, when asked, he explains his dodging with PT :P
If you know how the warpack overlay looks ( there were youtube videos from time to time, but when it comes to THAT, Wargaming seems to be SUPER efficient to get these taken down, but there are still some screenshots to be found), you simply know the guys, when you stumble over one ingame.
But since i met a WG-guy in a game, where i commented in all-chat regarding one conqu-players funny dodging, I know why this is still such an issue in the game. He (the WG-guy) wrote - and i quote - "after your comment i was watching him and i am 100% (!) certain, that he isnt using it and i work for the company so i should know".
So without knowing when i launched the torps and while he himself was still playing, this dude could make that 100% assesment. Needless to say he was on 49% winrate with 7k battles. WG-clan-tag stands for quality and game competence. kinda explains the state of the game too i figured ^^
It's almost as if that BB was stream sniping...
This game was a masterclass, but seeing the end I need to point out I was in pain not seeing him turn into the Yamato at like 15:25, those torps had very little chance to miss, even if he got spotted it would have been too late. He had smoke, a lot of hp, and was way too far out of position.
Of course this would likely not have been enough, and he was focused on narrating the game for the viewers, but the whole video shows how vital it can be to be at the right position at all times.
The Kremlin knows that there's a Shima to his side, why is he beaching??

this is what happen to the game when you let people with 10 account battle able to have t10 ship without having to play t3-t9 match by swiping daddy credit card! This game dying faster than before and player base skill will drop to the extend in 1 team out of 12 player only 1-2 player will have over 50%wr which is the sign this game soon gonna meet its end!
I find a lot of dubious torpedo awareness from players in ships with no Hydro. Their excuse is always, Priority Target told me someone stopped aiming at me, so I 'KNEW' torpedos were coming... which any real player knows is utter bullshit. Priority Target doesn't tell you where they're aiming from, it doesn't say which ships torps are coming, ok in your game its highly likely to be Shima torps, but is the average player alert enough to acknowledge the Shima is on their flank, I don't think so. I mean, players able to somehow sail in a straight line for several minutes but the moment torps are in the water they suddenly get this idea, to slow down or change course significantly. Sometimes at the cost of taking massive Citadel hits, just to avoid Torpedos some app/mod tells them are coming from over there. I wish these replays were sendable to WG for them to investigate whether these players are using cheat tools for an advantage, but we all know, WG won't do anything, so whats the point

Lets FACE IT, the only way to win a Game of WOWS GUARONTEED these days is to Division up with friends. Random people are just too stupid to live and not do enough in return.

I feel your pain. Not as good as you, but I have my moments. The worst is seeing a team go down three or four ships before you get started, and there is no hope for a win. That's why win rate isn't always an indicator of skill. If a team can't win when they have a carry player like you, what's the hope for competent players that do well, but can't carry at your level? Shima is still a great ship when handled correctly like you just demonstrated!
Flamu lost because of one simple mistake: he only killed 7 ships. Enemy team has 12 ships.

ironically these balls to the wall games are the reason i uninstalled the game. at surface value they're fun but then it starts to set in that you are just the one useful Oompa Loompa in a masochistic chocolate factory where all the other Oompa loompas are busy jumping into the squirrel hole to their deaths while Willy Wonka smiles and makes you pay 90 dollars for a chocolate bar that is suspiciously like the chocolate bar that he sold you 90 dollars last week.
DDs are sooooo weak and torps are so easy to counter 😅😂...;)
