They definitely put effort in and it didnt work out, so rather than throwing the rest of their money and time into a sinking ship and losing everything, doing something else instead might be a better idea. It's kind of a shame too.
A good example is the Bayonetta "problem" where the original VA wanted WAY more than they were paid for previous games, since I guess they felt they were important for getting a leading role?
VA's aren't Hollywood actors, they can be pretty readily replaced.

I've seen this happen before with the game Nier: Reincarnation. I dunno how well the game is actually doing but it's definitely not a popular gacha, where I only see hardcore nier fans even paying attention to it. It stopped it's eng voice over about a year ago and it's still going but I have the feeling they're just pushing through the story and the end will come soon.

With Eng or not, since the global is just an additional income for the company and all their revenue is mostly from Cn/Jp, they won't really care enough to keep it, (Couple of days ago there was a Cn stream to ask for players opinion, but we never had any eng stream, it is obv now, they even removed the survey haha) NA and EU chat is mostly dead and the player count aren't smth for them to think about, I'm happy that the game have a global release to begin with and grateful for that, in my opinion there are way more important problems that need to be addressed change/add to the game, and in general I understand and respect that there are many players who will want to have eng Va, but if that will stop u from enjoying the game Ion believe u ever really enjoyed it (It is not a deal breaker, many had eng va and removed it and many never had it and added it after years from the release).

I also played in English, largely for the same reason as you stated (purists largely don't want to understand this. I played way too many games that lack EN VOs during combat.). I do think it's largely cope to say the game is doing well financially. We don't know how much they have to spend to keep the game maintained, on top of adding new stages, units, marketing, etc. Just keeping servers up is a large financial investment since you have to pay for physical servers as well as the bandwidth. We also have to account for the quality pushed into the game itself, which imo is pretty high. These servers are also in multiple regions and trying to hold what would hopefully be thousands of players across the world.
There's also the assumption made in the video that PC players are spending the same if not more than what mobile players are, and this one has always been disagreeable to me. No matter how much you slice it, JP and KR will always be mobile-focused. It's really just the U.S. that has an affinity for PC gaming, but it's also the worst place to push an anime shooter when you have other, more dominant F2P shooters. If the majority of their reveune was coming from PC, I'm almost certain it would mostly come from the West and axing EN VOs would be shooting themselves in the foot.
That said the big issue at hand is even if they are making profit, that doesn't mean they're reaching their target return-of-investment. If they're making just enough to make more content, that's just throwing money back into the grinder and not much else. So they're almost certainly trying to slash their budget for a higher RoI.

@@ThoseTentacle The game is built for mobile for the Asian player base due to their busy lifestyles and wanting to play on the go. Someone can correct me if wrong but I believe much of the Asian community between CN & JP don't have much time to sit at a PC or console which is why so much of their gaming is mobile based. The PC players are def those in the west. One of the reasons the game is dying is because it played so terribly on mobile, killing much of the Asian fan base. Its better now but never as good as PC.

  • @HunterSteel29

As someone who doesn't play with English dubs (The voice actors almost always never pronounce names right, or the lines are weird, or there's weird accentuation where it doesn't need to be or the characters just either sound too young [My pet peeve with old men sounding like 20 year old dudes] or the younger characters are voiced with an extremely high pitch that is also very loud.), this doesn't affect me, but I will concede that this is a bad thing.
I don't really like to speculate why a company would do this, it is a QoL update for those who like it (whatever floats your boat), and removing it alienates that market/player base. HOWEVER, the reason they cited on Twitter was that there wasn't enough people using the EN VO and so they decided to end support for it. (makes sense in a way, if the game doesn't make millions per month like Genshin/Star Rail/PGR does, then there's no reason to do EN VO for a minority who very likely doesn't pay for any in-game stuff either. Cut losses and perhaps bring it back if the game blows up later.) There might be other reasons (abandoning the Western Market although not entirely so as to focus on the Asian market because thats where the majority of their money comes from and the money coming from the West isn't enough to justify the costs. So we might see the Global service shut down with the Asian services continuing as normal in the future.)
Personally I think the company was ambitious. Its one of the few mobile games running on Unreal engine, probably the only Gacha game running on Unreal Engine, and the company decided to go with a full world wide release. I didn't really hear about them before SnowBreak, and the marketing around SnowBreak wasn't all that good unfortunately which means it didn't attract many players off the bat. Couple that with a VERY rough release patch and then spending the two next major patch cycles fixing issues in the game, getting the launcher to actually update and connect to the update server as well as trying to pull in new players despite a rough few first months. Now they're releasing another big game before Snowbreak has managed to gain any real traction as well. So we'll have to see if the game can pull off a No Man's Sky and manage to fix its reputation. But unfortunately for them, some services may have to be shut off so they can recoup costs.
I am going to continue playing the game anyways because I am stopping with Honkai Impact after this last patch with Griseo. I don't really like the direction Mihoyo is taking Honkai and the recent story patches haven't been engaging enough to keep going for me. I guess my journey in Honkai ended when Kiana saved the universe.

So to english speakers is very hard play a game reading a text dialogue? (desde LATAM XD) Although the gameplay does not affect me, I was also quite surprised that they removed a language from the game, I hope it is because a large majority of players actually prefer it in another language and not that Snowbreak is dying, I will continue buying the monthly pass as a way of support and compensation for the time I continue playing and I will follow your steps of only buying skins that I consider that I will use them, in the same way snowbreak has always seemed like a very F2P game to get characters and their manifestations. If the game is going to fall then we will fall together until the end.

  • @meganoobbg3387
    @meganoobbg3387 Před 6 měsíci +10

English being removed is a red flag - i doubt its because of gigabyte size or voiceactor costs. This game barely has variation of quotes - ive literally memorized them. Even the japanese ones lack variety, since my friend plays it in japanese and i can hear they repeat same quotes in battle or menu screen all the time. If anything they should be adding more audio, not removing it. The only reason i could assume, might be if they want to add new characters more easily - but even then, they only add 1 new character every 40 days. And most new characters are SSR copies of purple ones anyway - 40 day events, means barely 7-8 new characters per year. I haven't seen them promote a 2nd character for next event, so removing voices doesn't make sense. What's most likely is they might be abandoning the euro and american market, cuz most of their profits are probably from Asia customers - that's the only real reason i believe they would do something stupid like remove english from the game. I like the english voiceover too - i find japanese voices too squeaky and young, while chinese language i find funny and their voiceactors usually lack emotion. Not that the english VA is perfect or anything, but i prefer it.

They're finally giving me the character models I've wanted and the game is fun.. when I can play. The lack of content is annoying but gives me time to play other games... those other games are going to continue to get more and more of my time and money if Snowbreak/Seasun games doesn't get their act together and support global. 3:00 i think it's not such a biiiig deal, but defenitly is for some players, ASeasun is not doing any favor to Western customers, by doing again wrong decisions, in the west there are sooooo many Hardcore shooting game fans, Snowbreak did already wrong right from the beginning by limiting stamina for the little content that SBCZ has, making farming soo slow as shit, it's not my opinion but it's based on what most gamers have claimed,
look they also remove complete little limited events to replace it with new complete little event update after update, ASeasun never thought lets keep at least the maps of each previous events and add it in a co-op survival mod, players are desperatly asking for more co-op,
about skins they added Enya for free by clearing missions, now it feels like ASeasun are pissedoff because they needed to fix stamina and soo they removed all possibility to F2P players to get at least 1 skin out of the 4 skins they recently added,
Seriously who care about that vehicule skin, if you will use it only in that event, not like Enya that is an permanent skin.
ASeasun defenitly look like they don't know what they are deciding, it feels constantly like they want to punish Players mostly F2P, but if they don't make any balanced favor to F2P players it means they are shooting them selfs in the foot, because if ASeasun is not able to atract F2P players coming back or trying SBCZ, it will be just a matter of time that the whales will have enough of their nonsense decisions and loose those Whales players.
F2P players are also potential supporters if they purchacing some skins or gamepass, ASeasun behavior is like making fun of them, i'm not saying it's a fact but it's how it feels for F2P that quitted or just login for a try.

For them, And in general most games have shit free skins or they never really add any free skins to the games, there are exceptions but not for most of the famous gacha games, like genshin or hsr, and for the stamina, a game that makes billions like hoyo, they added that stamina increase in literally 2 years, than hsr devs learned to add that too early to satisfy the community since most players think turn base games are not engaging enough/boring, as for Sb I think free 4* skins will come only when they have a big events not in every update, enya was 2 patches ago right? Chenxing was before haru patch, they even gave u an option to get skins by simply buying a 5€ monthly pass, stickers and new face look for the adjutant in the base, yao and feeny 4* skins so by just getting ur 90 crystals u can farm very easy those 45 tickets and get the skins from there + 30 presence, which is one of the best deals I saw in a gacha for the Mp.
For events in my opinion?? They sucks completely, it is just the same damn events over and over copy and paste disappointing yes, hopefully they will improve thats why I still play it and I'm seeing improvements with each update no one can disagree ab that, The new perma event is a nice addition to play for hours everyday for 2 or 3 months at least so we have some kind of an end content we asked for, hard enemies/elites and annoying bosses.
The devs decided to focus on skins which is a wise decision instead of making characters literally destroys other old units and gave u an ability to choose which character is good for u and what to skip, no operative is important that much or a game changer, but all of them works, events are okay for casuals and the lvl of grinding is okay compared to other gachas, logistics are beyond easy to get with only 2 substats to care about, and a free 4* event weapon to get to tier 5 instead of forcing u to summon and waste pulls, whales can even chill and get the tier 2 sig weps instead of 5 copies pretty easy.
For Eng Va as someone who likes and understand Japanese I believe u can play the game without it if u reaaaallly like the gamestyle but other than that it is unacceptable to remove it when u have a global and an eng community for the game, this is stupid yes. but it is reality for now sadly... there is 2 options no more, play with or not...
Many games didn't shine before at least 1 year, so hopefully they will meet our expectations properly to keep us playing it for some time.
