    This channel! As someone who is relatively new to cycling - and someone who is not, let's say, a teenager - the content you produce is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. You're serious about becoming a better cyclist, but you're honest about fumbling your way into everything and you cover the topics, needs, irrational wants (LOL), that are so on-point for newbies. Love it. I really hope this channel is a success and that you continue with it. If it helps to hear it, know that it's really valuable for people like me.

    I have a constant irritation at my left kneecap while I feel very comfortable on my bike. The problem can be saddle height, for/aft position or cleat position which might cause bad alignment of the knee in accordance with the foot but I don't have the impression that this programme can correct knee tracking? I did three bike fits. Firts one corrected my soles and the second one asked me what that was al about 😀. The second and third put me that high that I felt very uncomfortable on my bike. The third also put me very high. I changed everything again by myself to get comfortable but I this feel pain in my left knee 😢.

    I’ve been a bike fitter and coach for over 20 years, and I still don’t understand that opening statement. Bike fitting isn’t that complicated and shouldn’t be that expensive. Bike fitting can be boiled down to three simple steps, put the rider within their range of motion in every direction and teach them how to get their weight on the pedals. I can usually get those two steps done in under an hour, and I would gladly compare my results with any other fitter spending 3 or 4 hours. The added “precision” that they claim in the long, expensive fittings is what I call accurately measuring Jell-O. As soon as they get out and start riding, things start to change. If customers want more it happens on the road where I can see what’s really happening. Your fitting app misses all of that…
    To be honest, I don’t get any of the marketing surrounding bike fitting. Slamming the stem is just one step in “looking pro”, which is taking the fit of the top .01% and trying to apply it to the other 99.99% - that can’t work. Then there is the claim that fitters make of using a “scientific process”. The scientific process involves testing, observation and conclusions - that’s not what most bike fitters do. Retul (the example I use because that’s the marketing BS my shop offers) is willful ignorance. It’s fitting by database, which can’t work for an individual.
    If you ever find yourself in the Boston area, I would gladly go over what a bike fit is (or at least should be) and I’ll take you out on the road and actually make it work (or correct problems that don’t show up on the trainer).
    Yes, I did say there are three steps in bike fitting. The third step has to do with the terrible quality control over the human body - that gets complicated…

    What puzzles me about the whole 'bike fit' issue is so much of it is very simple common sense. When I get in my car I adjust the seat for distance and upright angle because I'm not the same size as my wife. I have two road bikes one is a 57 frame and the other is a 54. There is nothing on either that I cannot adjust to suit me and I can ride for an hour with no pains or discomfort and only stop for a quick dring before riding for another hour. If the bike looks like it suits you, feels like it suits you and causes no real aches and pains then it's probably fine. If I go to half a dozen different £150-200 bike fitters are they all going to set my bike up the same as one another? The shop or even a simple size chart can give you a good guide for your needs and adjusting seat height, distance from bars, bar height etc are very simple adjustments that any bike shop will do at the time of purchase. My view, right or wrong, is that bike-fitting is a solution looking for a problem.

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  Před rokem +1

      Hey if it works for you, more power to you! I never got a bike fit until I started riding longer distances. Once I started doing 5+ hours in a single ride, little things like knee pain started turning into big things. That's when optimizing my fit really started showing benefits.

    I’m enjoying the bike so far czcams.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
