Civet POOP Coffee -- Kopi Luwak | Is the most EXPENSIVE coffee up to the hype?
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 9. 08. 2019
- Why is kopi luwak, or civet coffee, the most expensive in the world? Every bean has passed through the digestive system of an Asian palm civet and then collected in its #poop. The beans were then washed and roasted, ready to be made into a cup of #coffee. Here we go!
Big thanks to Simon who sent me the kopi luwak to make this episode possible! đ„ł

It's admirable that they say that to the one purchasing the product, but then again I don't trust that they are being honest about it. @@jody024 it comes with the territory. I'm just glad she doesn't gloss over it.
Part of the reason the coffee is supposed to be superior is that the animals are selective about which beans/berries they eat and they pick the best ones. When they're caged and force fed, they don't get to select the best of the best. So it's not only unethical but it defeats the whole purpose of the coffee!
There were 2 types of Kopi Luwak 1. Come from the wild civet that eat the fresh coffee bean in the farm (this one is much more expensive). 2. Come from a captivated civet that force to eat coffee bean in their daily life. There were slightly different texture and taste in both of them that you can find in the internet
Who in their right mind went digging in animal poop and decided to make it into coffee
Probably the same person who first opened an oyster and thought "I wonder what this hunk of snot tastes like". đđŠ
This was my first thought the first time I heard about this coffee too.
A little history trivia*
Kopi luwak originated from indonesia, specifically from the colonial time, at the time indonesia is being occupied and enslaved/colonized by the netherlands. The invaders prohibit any of the slaves as they call them to consume coffee as all coffee from the plantation are being exported in the spice trade. Here is where the Civet comes. The civet eat the coffee fruit and digest only the meat of the fruit as their natural diet, pooping out the coffee seed and spreading the seed all over the forest. Then the locals as deperate as they are to get their coffee "fix" pick up the poops, wash em, and roasted them, and then with desperation brew the coffee. As it turns out the coffee tasted waaaaaay better. The colonials knew this and laugh at the locals for drinking "poop", little did they know that they are missing out big time.

1.Saliva. 2. Digestive juices. 3. Poop....no no and no
@@dvh3113 nah man the cats can't digest them fully, they swallow the berries (which is what the actual coffee beans as we know them are inside of) so the berries come out intact save for just the skin/partial outer layer of the berry; the workers get the berries out of the feces and send them off to be washed before the beans are ever taken out of the "shell" so to speak. The whole reason for this is that the civets only pick and swallow the highest quality berries, so basically the civets are quality control lol

Thanks for tasting this for us Emmy! Pour over and french press are my two favorite methods for drinking coffee. I know you want to keep it simple in the morning and I can certainly relate. Next time you want to compare, I would recommend using the same method of brewing as french press is what gave your civets coffee that milky quality (the filter in your pour over keeps the smaller particles out). Also, measuring the amount and temperature of water will make a difference. Personally, I would be much less particular with my every day cup of coffee than I would with something as expensive as civet coffee....I'd probably break out all the science equipment for that!
Hello đ how are you doing today
You posted this the day I decided to finally brewed the civet coffee my brother sent me from when he visited vietnam! He only sent me enough for about 3 cups due to the price. I thought it was a Good Smooth Cup Of Coffee, but there are a lot of places I can get beans that produce that that aren't $80+/lb. I usually drink Trader Joes low acid french roast and I do think the civet coffee was less acidic & smoother than that, but "fancy coffee" for me is maybe like $12-15/lb and I don't think anything more than that is truly worth it from the view of someone who doesn't professionally drink coffee.
I wanna see all the things you showed us at the end!
Toe of Satan? Poop of Civet? Plus Kit Kat's and Mentos? Something sweet after the heat. And some freshness after poop breakfast. Simon is so thoughtful.đ
Lmao! Best comment!!
"you can get fancy with anything just not with coffee. It's just to early. " Amen, sweetie đ
OMG I love this dress Emmy!
Toe of Satan, please?
What I would love to see is you doing the current hot ones lineup. If I had the money, I would send you the sauces.
Hello đ how are you doing today
