Until Dawn is designed to be played multiple times, as players cannot see all content with a single playthrough. Each playthrough will last about seven to nine hours in length, and the game mechanics utilize an in-game system called the "Butterfly Effect", in which any choice of action by the player may cause unforeseen consequences later on. For example, locating a weapon in an earlier chapter may allow the player to pick it up down the line when a chase scene leads back to the same room. Throughout the game, players will make difficult decisions during ethical or moral dilemmas, such as sacrificing one character to save another. The Butterfly Effect system blurs the line between right and wrong decisions and it is possible for players to keep all eight characters alive as well as having all eight of them die, allowing for many different paths and scenarios as well as offering several different endings for each character.

When I 1st played the game in 2015 i thought that the stranger was trying to kill them he was actually trying to protect them from wendigos.
This was the best part of the first half of the game. A masked man, a guy with a flamethrower, strange creatures, a "Wanted" poster about an escaped prisoner etc. You just don't know where to expect threat from.
@Gizbornch josh was the one who scared all his friends and they were there for him after his sister's disappeared but hannah had become a wendigo.

He tells Chris later that the wendigos keep you alive and strip the skin off of you. Then they eat your organs, one at a time, while you are still living.
But, then the wendigos (in actuality) seem to instantly kill everyone (except for Jess), most notibly by tearing their heads off.
That's because if you paid attention to the story, The Flamethrower Guy's grandfather hunted Wendigo all his life. He had a journal and everything. But the MAIN Wendigo was....
🛑🛑Spoiler Alert 🛑🛑
Hannah the twin sister from the beginning of the game. And she was possessed by the main Wendigo spirit. But.... She still had traces of her humanity. If you noticed, she never attacks Mike to try and kill him, she stalks him (because she was in love with him, and remembered him, even as a Wendigo). She Hated Jessica because she is the one who lead the prank on human Hannah the year prior. And depending on how you play the game, Hannah wasn't trying to eat them just yet. She wanted to kill them sadistically, basically she wanted violent revenge.
And the final clue that she still had a little of her humanity was, depending on how you play the game, when she sees her brother Josh in the Wendigo lair. If he recognizes her butterfly tattoo and yells "Hannah!?" She'll recognize HIM ALSO, and she won't kill him but drag him away. But if they meet and he doesn't see the butterfly tattoo, he won't call out her name, and she kills him because she didn't recognize him.
So just because we didn't see Hannah eat people after she killed them it doesn't mean that the Flmtwr guy was wrong. She had just became a Wendigo. Her mind wasn't completely 'fried' or pure Wendigo yet.

It was obvious that the "Main" wendigo was Hannah all along. But, she wasn't the only wendigo stalking and killing them. The other wendigo's (who had no connections to the teens) also were tearing their heads off or impaling them on hooks, or bashing their faces, or ripping off their jaws. It wasn't just Hannah.
Like most legends and evil things, im sure he caught a wendigo doing that to someone and it would stick with him more than anything else he's seen. Also, if there are less victims it would probably ration the food over time, keep it alive
I like to think he was just saying that to scare Chris into going back to the lodge for safety.

I have another theory. Makkapitew, the Wendigo that was killed by stranger year ago (in game). It was said that the Wendigo's ghosts are not gone, just flying around and waiting for someone to become a cannibal and possess. I think that Hannah was possessed by Makkapitew and it learned new tricks and got revenge on his killer, but Hannah took small control, when she saved Sam from a miner Wendigo in the Lodge.
Chris distracts him which gives the wendigo long enough to kill him

No don’t think so. Both games are made by Supermassive Games so that’s why they feel kind of the same. But that would be an interesting premise to explore…
@@relenasoulheart9503 Right, I forgot they were made by the same company. But yeah, I think it would be interesting if both games were in the same universe too. Wendigoes, werewolves, and/or other various monsters in future games all tied together might be interesting to see.
