Apple fans will never admit they are on two year old tech playing catch up with Android all year then about the time they almost catch up..Samsung drops a bomb and shoots past Apple in every aspect of tech..cameras. hardware..then Apple just can't get rid of that notch can they..then you would actually get a full screen like everyone else for the last 2 years ..

True but HDR is a big difference, especially Dolby Vision.
@SKEKMAL I've never seen one so I can't really judge
@SKEKMAL you might be suffering from the eagle eye syndrome, the physics of eyesight says most people can't notice the difference even on much larger displays. What matters much more is having a 10bit display and HDR, especially Dolby Vision, the dynamic metadata kind of HDR, this is much more of an improvement in picture quality than 4K.
Speaking of Samsung, the Note 20 Ultra does 1500 nits (1400 on the Exynos model). So the iPhone 12 series isn't the brightest phone display in the world, at least on paper. I think what's most impressive about the iPhone 12 series is the ability to record Dolby Vision content in real-time, since Dolby Vision content has dynamic HDR metadata, and the amount of computing power that would take is insane.
My 2018 Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has an OLED 1000 Nit HDR screen. Watching CZcams HDR videos blows my mind. It's made me hold out on upgrading my TV until this level of HDR becomes available a decent prices on big screens.... I have a feeling I'll be waiting awhile.

I went from a Pixel 3 to an iPhone 11 Pro and I can say without a doubt the OLED on the 11 Pro is pretty much perfection. No, it’s not 2160p or even 1440p, but the color reproduction is phenomenal! And honestly, for a device this size, you really don’t need a crazy resolution. It just impacts battery. Which is why companies like OnePlus and Samsung have since defaulted to 1080p resolution even though their devices can go higher. The OLED displays on the iPhone are fucking beautiful. I really enjoy mine! Looking forward to my iPhone 12 and that A14 chip too that’ll be delivered on the 23rd!

Would love to see a follow up review on this. Interested to see for instance how the LG C1 OLED 77” I’m about to purchase compares to my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I always hear this community saying “if you haven’t had an OLED than you don’t know what your missing and LCD is fine” but if we are all (many) carrying OLED panels in our hands 24/7 that get brighter for HDR than the top end OLEDs, that would be something interesting to explore.
Also interested to see how the Dolby Vision HDR video I’ve taken would look on the C1, and how I could go about getting it to play.
Hey, so how does it compare to the C1 ? Is the HDR have more pop on the iPhone ?
I can confirm you on that, My friend C1 Is nowhere near iPhone 12 pro max's Quality when playing Dolby Vision on Netflix or Apple TV especially a movie called space sweepers.
The same is true with Samsung S 21 ultra when playing Amazon prime as it supports HDR 10+(Samsung/Panasonics Non-proprietary HDR technology for free for all) (Similar to Dolby Vision proprietary HDR in every aspect and don't confuse it with HDR 10 Static HDR technology again non proprietary)
The only difference is Samsung displays Brighter than iPhones when you play HDR 10+ since you cannot meaningfully compare them as Samsung doesn't play Dolby Vision on phone or on TV.
but let's be honest if you compare Dolby Vision Tv to Dolby Vision iphone and HDR 10+ TV to HDR 10+ Samsung phones, The phones actually outperform TVs and I have seen this so many times.
especially in the case of S 22 ultra where the Amazon prime grand tour show featuring HDR 10+'s voice as bright and vivid on phone as compare to even samsungs own television, And at least three times as bright as any oled on the market.
We actually tested the screen to put out 1671 nits on a lit scene.
Hey Caleb, love your videos.
Quick question, the pixel density for phones are almost always better than that of TVs even for the same display type. So are phone displays always better?
Imagine taking the exact same OLED screen on the LG CX but for a phone - would the phone’s display be sub-average compared to the competition?
Pixels are always smaller and more condensed in phones
The Laptop is faster than your calculator
I wish Phone Oleds came to regular tvs, or Apple made a TV. I shudder to think how much they would charge.
Fair ask! But there is a reason that can't happen right now. Maybe another video to explain why is in order? Thanks for your comment!
TV OLED is just as good, just not quite as bright but the difference is only slight.
Nothing viewed on any phone OLED can match the experience of viewing it on a big screen OLED. It's not even remotely close, regardless of the specs.
Galaxy smartphones still have the best displays a smartphone can have.
@BIack HoIe If Apple took the Iphone X and renamed it as the Iphone 12, everyone will still buy it over a Samsung... They don't care that Samsungs have a better display, it's just, Iphone after Iphone after Iphone, and they're happy with it.

Hi Caleb, very interesting comparison. I'm looking forward to see how long iPhone 12's battery will last with HDR video playback. I'm guessing more brightness less live span. Thank you!

I am an android user but I bought the iPhone 12 promax just for Netflix on Apple TV and Dolby Vision play back which both the platform support.

and Since I like to conserve battery I do not charge it above 80% and don't drain the battery below 20% yet the 60% Effectively useable battery charge will give you around five hours of screen time on full brightness Netflix Dolby Vision supported content.
Iphone 12 is only at 1200 knits when watching HDR content. Other wise it peaks out a 685 for the 12 and 850 I believe for the pro
Those latter numbers are for full screen brightness, not peak. An OLED tv full screen brightness caps at around 140 nits.

Great video!
I want to ask, is it better to get an iPhone with LCD display than OLED in terms of lifetime? I keep hearing that even if OLED will last long, the LCD will still last longer?
How long do you consider a lifetime? If you plan on keeping your phone for 3 or 4 years then apples OLED displays will last all the way with very minor to negligible viewable amounts of burn in. Now if you neglect your phone and leave the screen static for hours or disable screen lock don’t expect the display to last longer than a year. LCD displays will last for decades without much degradation.
@@known3617 but if the lcd can last decades than it’s a better buy because it can be used as a backup phone if needed or just save it like a collection phone for fun and keep battery little charged and screen will be good even after many years. Or can be used as media phone at home without worry about the screen life time, so maybe they made oled so that people really have to buy a new phone when the screen is finished
Good video but don’t confuse peak brightness with sustained brightness. Peak brightness is exactly that a single pixel that manages to reach 1,200 nit for a millisecond instantly categorizes it as such level peak is a synonym for max possible brightness. And with HDR content you are only going to get that with pure white values and again it’s not all the white but a few amount of pixels.
The 12 as with the 11 pro offer 785-805 nits of maximum sustained brightness across the entire screen for even pixel. Their is a range as some 11 pro models made by LG where ever so slightly less bright than 11pro max and 12 pro max models. And the iPhone 12 and 12 mini are capped at 600 bits through software.
Me watching this video with a I phone 12
They are Samsung oled the same as the note 20 ultra which are the best made for phones. 1500 nits on the note 20 ultra
They are not the same as Note 20 ultra. Note uses LTPO which Apple can't get until next year.
Love your videos! The subtle funnies is on top Caleb.

DisplayMate measured 1290 nits 20% APL, 1205 nits for 50% APL, and 1090 nits for 100% APL for last years iPhone 11 Pro Max. It looks like the iPhone 12 will preform the same. @digitaltrends, perhaps I’m missing something in regards to the skepticism.
Can’t wait till Friday!!!
I’m exited to get mine I’m upgrading from an iPhone 7 and it’s going to be nice to have a good display on the go
Yikes man Android's have had OLED for nearly a decade. They're much cheaper and they ALL have OLEDs.
Look into the OnePlus 8T it has a 10bit panel and had way better specs then the iPhone
Note 20 ultra 1500+ nits no video?
What about Sonys Xperia 1 iii it’s 120 hz a amazing 4K oled screen!!!
No color filter on the panel is a downside. That's why lots of OLED phone users report a green tint
How do you know it isn't delivering 1200 nits of brightness? Considering that's what they claim I think it's a safe bet to assume that it can actually achieve it. Although it may be only for a 10% window or something like that, but that still counts. OLED tvs can delivery 800+ nits in 10% windows, so to think 1200 from a small phone screen is so unbelievable doesn't really make sense, it seems very achievable to me.
Why don't you stretch that image quality of the iPhone 12 to the size of a OLED TV and then compare it.
I need an 85” OLED TV
Me too.
I always feel like Apple always gets extra credit and more talk for catching up to the curve rather than setting it. Note 20 Ultra is case in point.
I think part of the reason is that they don’t really market it. Like obviously the Note 20 Ultra has a brighter, more advanced screen than the 12’s but they don’t really market those advanced features. They’ll *briefly* mention 10-bit or 1500 nits max brightness like it’s nothing, and don’t even mention it in the official spec sheet, whereas Apple will make sure you know these things, listing it in bold on the product page and using it as selling points during the announcements, even if it’s the exact same as last year.
@Steven R explain, especially as it pertains to displays.
@Steven R Wtf is magsafe? That is a gimmick at its finest. Wireless charging has been around for years and Iphone wants to pretend its new. Come on now. And why tf is the notch still a thing?
@ohuhi 123 😅😅😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣 you said they do things late while defending them about doing things late

The OLED on my 10Xmax made me want an OLED tv, so I got a c9. Hopefully we’ll get better displays without the possibility of burn in soon.

The 11 pro and pro max displays are also Super Retina XDR with 1200 nits max brightness
That's lame Samsung, as per usual, has 1600 nits peak brightness. They're always one step ahead huh
Okay - lets do a stupid price comparison. iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 inch display for $1100 = $164/inch vs. LG's highest end 4K OLED TV (77GXPUA) 77 inch display for $4700 = $61/ inch . Fyi 1200nits can be seen from last year in samsung flagships
When you consider price/per inch then it should be better
“Your 4K TV” Hah. As if I’d ever upgrade from the 1080i and 720p TVs I’ve had for 20 years.
if they can put high voltage on their rggb oleds...they can out put more luminesce.
But is it so little oleds and battery power...is kinda impossible Hahaha
is it?👀
This is mostly true, for anyone with an Amoled display phone. The picture quality is so much better than the led displays that most TV's still use.
I have a 40inch TV in my bedroom but I watch movies/TV shows on my phone because the colors and overall picture quality is so much better on my phone. I'm weird and have one of those holders that hold the phone in front of your face but it's totally worth it though I promise. Unbeatable quality at a relatively good size without spending thousands on an OLED TV, although I also own a 65 inch LG OLED TV but just watch stuff on my phone anyway.
I think only the IPhone 12 Pro uses Samsung oled. The regular IPhone 12 uses Chinese manufacturer BOE oled.
I doubt that
Its a great screen but its the same as the 11 pros, nothing new.
Only the max is said to reach 1200 mits in hdr which we all know isnt a true 1200 nits and we know it was probably tested with a small small window just to say hey its 1200 nits hde certified as we have seen with the unboxings already and the side by sises of the 12 and the 11 the 12 is brighrer but not the 1200 nit part brighter acrually when comparing the samsung s20 the s20 makes rhe 11 look dim in comparison the 12 didnt make the 11 look dim and samsung is also rated at 1200 nits and is known as the brightest phone on the market but I will say the iphone12 looks to be the right direction for apple again it looks great im sure rhe performance is incredible im so happy they went with an oled display i mean it looks incredible def would of made my choice harder between the s20 and the iphone12 but hey the s20 I feel will still have the display edge but the iphone 12 is right there with it but I will say seems like we are back to the wow iphone just made a huge leap foward I hope samsung comes out with a banger at the beggining of the year because it seems to be that they are launching the s21 early next year mabye even January from what the rumors are saying insane right lol thats def the earliest for them hopefully they didnt rush it to much lol
so i should sell me OLED tv and buy the iphone and watch content on it I guess 😂😂
Have you all noticed you can’t comment on the new iPhone vids
What?? Android phones have OLED from long ago but now when all iPhones starts using them then they get attention??!! 😑
They've been using oled for 3 years now.
Are you saying apple not allowed to use oled lol
@@MisterHDGaming995 read it again lol
@@ku5587 While Samsung have been using it for years and promoting it from the start
@@vervetech9395 Yep. But they weren't great for a long time. Brightness and color reproduction were lagging behind until the s6 I'd say.
Watching on an oled 8k TV big brain moves
Says they do 1200 nits on hdr
Its no surprise Apple overstate their spec
You do know samsung phones have better displays than apple and the nits are higher right?
He doesn't and apparently a lot of people think this is new tech lol
Have you ever heard of Samsung outdoor mode. It gets so bright that their is barely any glare when you us it outside
@@gliese21x46 that's not true they make the best displays In any phone
@@gliese21x46 they produce high-end displays for Apple, Google, one plus, vivo, oppo, I think hauwaei and xaiomi
Claimed peak price of note 20 ultra is 1600 nits... compare that to a tv as 8t has a better notch and will give a better viewing experience
My 4K TV is 120hz
It’s 1200 nits HDR only bro not normal brightness
iTube 65’ coming?
