I felt that
He was so proud of himself after that too hahaha it was fantastic timing
And actually funnier than Whitney's jokes...

*Here's a breakdown of what you missed live or from the initial upload.* The time cut from the live episode is right after 23:59 . In the uncut version they went from talking about punching yourself in the face to the docu-series "the most hated man on the internet." They discussed a lot of the actual plots of the documentary and outlined all of the horrible stuff the guy did. Because of the context of the docu-series, Ethan said that the horrible person in that movie should be ki--ed, he was joking but you still can't say that on youtube. Whitney also said the c word during this time and Ethan said that he recently found out that youtube treats the c word like the n word and it is considered hate speech. Hila got upset because she doesn't like Ethan making those kinds of jokes (understandably,) then Ethan was getting paranoid about if the stream would get auto taken down and they discussed restartng it but landed on they will cut those parts out. The uncut version was only 18 minutes longer than the reupload so you didn't miss much. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the breakdown!

Hila's growth 💖 love that she's able to firmly stay within her principles and discuss conflicting opinions with a friend in a civil manner, I know for a fact my introverted ass still struggles with that sometimes just to avoid confrontation. You can also really tell how good of an employer she is what a queen 👑
Yeah I was very happy with Hila defending her values. But specifically about the HR topic - Ethan is right. If the HR is on the payroll of the company they are mostly there to protect the company, not the employee. We need worker solidarity to protect employees
@@eiden_ I disagree coming from someone in hr. It takes a special person to work in Hr. We don’t really get paid anything to begin with so similar to their conversation about someone not getting paid and complaining about words people are using, HR is here to do the right thing. I know I am paid fairly but I also put my foot down a lot for the employee experience. My employer is very employee focused though:)
Whitney's take on HR is exactly why we need HR
I agree, this lady is sipping on copium and excuses HARD. She literally jumped straight to firing somebody as soon as the topic of HR came up. Like she would want somebody fired immediately if they made a complaint to hr? If that’s what happens when you talk to hr I don’t even want to know what would happen if somebody approached HER with the complaint, as she obviously seems like a total Karen (only a Karen would EVER try to defend raccoons from a coyote, everyone else knows when to mind their business.) This lady rubbed me the wrong way in every facet. I honestly don’t know why they even had her as a guest. I’m watching out of pure spite at this point.
Literally
HR protects the company
Exactly
Even in the comedy world, if you are telling young writers that they need to confront their bosses directly instead of using HR, you are making the assumption that their bosses are decent, reasonable people. Just because Whitney thinks she would be willing to have an open dialogue if confronted, doesn't mean that every comedian would have the same reaction. That could put a lot of young people, especially women, in compromising situations. I hope no one took her "advice" to heart.

Ethan is spot on with HR. Sometimes it’s in the company’s best interest to help their employees, but ultimately HR is there to look out for the company.
And that isn’t basic common sense?
I agree with HR looking out for the company but they cover the companies ass and could care less about real employees

My dad's wife has been in HR her whole life and what Ethan said is spot on. Even when HR actually wants to help, they work for the company, not for you. On the other hand, I can see smaller companies having good HR and caring about their employees. Just not like.. Walmart. Also what Whitney said about "just come to me directly" was still pretty ignorant.
Absolutely this. I work HR in a unionized company, and through workplace investigations, my ultimate job is risk aversion. While I may have sympathy for employees, I have legal obligations that I have to follow, especially when it comes to human rights.
Very much so, like what the fuck, are you gonna sit your boss down when he clearly doesn’t respect you if he’s doing some bullshit like this.
Yeah that was a totally out of touch take. No, your employees can not come to you. Especially when you JUST said how easily you advocate firing somebody for minor things. She clearly just doesn’t like getting told on. Sorry babe, the one who needs to learn a skill is you and that skill is taking criticism
I was going to say this!!! HR is the most corrupt
Ethan is so dope for telling Whitney to not make fun of gabe. I think she was just making a stupid little joke, but it’s not funny if the recipient wouldn’t get it (which I don’t think gabe would have). I don’t think it was even that mean but big ups for Ethan telling her there is a time and a place

honestly i love hila so much for asking her about getting out of the eating disorder mindset. i never really hear people talk about eds publicly, and it’s really helpful to hear other peoples perspective on it. it’s a big struggle in my life right now, and it’s nice to hear people talking about their recovery. hila always comes through for the family
Hope you’re doing well and getting better! All the best to you 🥰
If you look at Whitney's podcast, the episode with Lindsey Stirling.. they get pretty deep into their ED stories.
I haven’t finished the podcast yet, but I’ve never seen anyone talking about Hila’s possible ED… there have been so many red flags like how picky she is, and how Ethan says he has to cook for her or she doesn’t eat… I don’t know for a fact of course but they seem to be open about everything else so I’m surprised they’ve never talked about it (unless they don’t realise?)
Anyway I hope she’s getting help for it if needed
@@beckthter I'm the same way as Hila, I don't think it's an eating disorder, mine is mostly caused by adhd like I forget to eat if I'm alone sometimes but let's not assume it's an eating disorder without knowing the person.
Me too! Stay strong! Your already beautiful
I've had a hard time in the past liking Whitney, but I think Hila was a fantastic equalizer for this interview. Hila de-railed bad topics and came in with good questions that really brought out what I think is a genuine Whitney.
I completely agree
The hr conversation was so interesting. I'm a very shy introverted person working at a call center at the hr representative always comes up to me when I'm at the office trying to be super friendly and all up in my business. I'm always smiley but trying to get out of conversation as soon as possible. I'm definitely giving this more thought after this
@@vannishpegasus3094 I don’t think being shy and introverted is the issue. I am as well and I completely got what Whitney was saying, I think she just got a bit carried away because she was riffing and joking but was totally open to hearing Ethan and Hilas response. She was more saying how it’s so annoying that co-workers are getting triggered over the most ridiculous non-issues and then reporting it to HR. Like she was saying how she said Merry Christmas to someone and they got triggered because it’s not inclusive, so they reported her to HR. Like that’s so fucking stupid but if it really bothers you, don’t be a snitch, just start up a small conversation and let her know that you don’t actually celebrate Christmas or sumtin, use it as a learning moment to get to know someone. Most of the time people say Merry Christmas as an automatic response to someone, so to go to HR for that is absolutely ridiculous and only isolates you from others.
@@Ievanh6 I feel like hr is trying to get me to complain about something even though I don't want to. At a call center everyone is expected to be expressive and opinionated but I think she singled me out because I'm not and now she always makes a point to approach me when I'm at the office
Whitney is great. I love that she doesn’t shy aware from topics. I appreciate her for that, especially in today’s internet age. She’s very genuine and not afraid of anything. Which is how it should be. Glad to see that you’re opening up to her!

Whitney prefacing her "come to me with a problem in the workplace" talk with the whole "if someone complains to HR just fire them" thing was pretty cringe.
Agreed, seems a little fishy/defensive
That’s the point of HR especially working with big names. People need a place to give their feedback even if it’s anonymous to help the employee experience.
If people have emotions, and want someone to talk to, fire them. It’s not an employees job to educate people when they’re uncomfortable. Don’t be an asshole. Being a comedian doesn’t give you a permission slip to be out of touch I hated this but
Her attitude really she’s how “easy” she’d be to talk to 🙄🙄🙄 absolutely no self awareness on that one
Yeah she brought that topic up out of nowhere as well, seems a bit overly defensive
HR is not on your side! Don't be fooled, Ethan is right! What you say to them goes straight to the boss. They are not your friend!

To take the “uncomfortable conversation” topic to the extreme, I’m an airline pilot and speaking up even when it’s to a superior is HIGHLY focused on. So many people have died because a captain wasn’t challenged before we learned about group dynamics like we know today. Whitney sounds like a massive boomer here but in my line of work it’s a skill we work on that literally saves lives and keeps the operation running safely.

@@JackRM7 whitney comes of as someone thats way too full of herself.
I think a high risk job like an airline pilot is a little different than comedy, like if you don't speak up it could lead to 600 death, if they don't speak up, it leads to them keeping their job but a little less happy

I completely agree with Ethan about HR. I have been SH’ed multiple times at a few places of work and every time without fail, HR has victim blamed and did the bare minimum to reprimand the person. It’s disgusting how little they give a damn.
HR is on your side insofar as the law is on your side. They only intervene when it might pose a legal/financial risk for the company. Hila’s take makes sense in California where workers rights are way stronger than then a lot of the rest of Canada/US
Dan is right, HR is to protect the company. It's not to help the employee more than the law states.

It’s fun to hear them idolize Norm so much and love his crooked sense of humor, bc i don’t think Ethan realizes how much he’s like Norm and it’s why we love him so much… ngl, Ethan continuously saying “b*** the NRA” & “Why can’t I wish death on people?” Has MAJOR “bill Clinton is a murderer” energy
He'll be recognized after dying and after the NRA lunatics get some sense.
ethan constantly gives off “smart guy who plays dumb” all the time
"Why can't I WISH death on people?" is my favorite quote lately, it's real and funny. You can't tell Ethan or anyone they can't wish something. It may offend some but it doesn't carry the same weight as an actual call to action. Sometimes people are so evil that it's appropriate. Is it wrong wishing death on a genocidal leader? Or someone truly despicable? Ultimately the wish is for the suffering of innocents to end. Pretty understandable to me.
I can only imagine how much shit Norm would get from some sensitive people in the comments if he was still alive and ended up on the podcast. Good thing is Norm would probably laugh it off and not care which is the best type of reaction to give.

This episode was funny but Whitney keeps claiming to not be the comedian that’s going to lecture you on what to do, and then proceeds to complain about cancel culture just like every other LA comedian
So unoriginal in her cancel culture rhetoric. Boomer energy

Whitney saying that if you pay people more, you can basically say and get away with anything was like wow.
Insanity. She implied that people’s morals and values are dependent on salary, which makes me think maybe hers are. I wonder how much she could get paid to be ok with animal abuse.
@@blubayou22 Definitely don't agree with the sentiment that you can do whatever if you pay someone well, but I do believe that most people are ethically ambiguous/flexible. Sure they have their own ideas of right and wrong, but most people are willing to do things they believe are wrong for money/personal gain. People tolerate all kinds of BS for money, at both ends of the spectrum. People generally have less scruples than you might expect.
Whitney's point that she teaches all her co-workers not to talk back to authority is literally what's fucked about her entire argument. "I think we've lost the ability to have uncomfortable conversations", maybe its because the people you're engaging these conversations in are entirely financially and socially dependent on you as an employer. You wan't to be a good mentor? stop assuming you know whats best for everyone.
I think her point (poorly expressed its true) was that she would prefer if people would say if they have a problem upfront and not be all smiles and then go to denounce you to HR
@@rebelpunx88 that was her point, yes, and to a degree I agree, but she kinda seems to not understand some people are anxious and afraid of losing their job, etc etc. She literally used the phrase "stab in the back", making it sound like the reason they do this is cuz they're dicks. Maybe the person didn't think there was an issue in the moment, maybe the person would prefer to talk about it in HR and *then* the boss, etc. It would be amazing if we could talk to our bosses 100% openly, but that's not reality in most cases. Bosses might seem friendly 99% of the time, but point out something you think they're doing wrong.. 👀
Yes! Thank you. It’s such a bizarro elitist point to make especially as a rich person speaking to a generation of people who are facing one of the worst socioeconomic and financial climates in recent history.
@@rebelpunx88 also for most regular people our bosses and coworkers aren’t close friends and the corporations we work for do not have any investment in our well-being only to the point that we don’t sue them or complain. Work is a place to work and provide a steady income and bringing up concerns to HR is a very routine and even encouraged process, because that’s how the company mitigates and is made aware of any issues before they become a real problem and protects the company and the employees. To me it was a very out of touch point to make and just showed me she doesn’t really understand how HR works in a typical corporate environment.
I was also starting to get a little irritated at how many times she brought up how sensitive people are lately, which like I understand is frustrating a lot recently. But it started to feel like she wants to say literally whatever she wants with no consequences which kind of tied into this conversation of just this weird entitlement and power dynamics and kind of old fashioned thinking

Loveeee whenever ya'll talk about the importance of mental health and the impact that medication has had on your lives. It has been the most incredible, eye-opening experience. It is so important to educate and advocate! Thank you so so so much for not being afraid of talking about it and killing the stigma
Whitney is a True Pick me Girl- questioning women‘s credibility by default, always for the guys by default- she’s just so cool and one of the bros maaaaaaan I get it
Massively over simplication
You’re ridiculous for for taking what Whitney (a comedian) said on a comedy podcast where she is riffing, making jokes, and being sarcastic as what she truly believes/thinks. When controversial current events/people come up, comedians will often joke around and sarcastically defend the wrong side/controversial person like a crazy conservative when it’s clear that side is wrong and any sane person would be against it. I see comedians do it all the time and it’s funny. People need to stop acting like what comedians are saying-in media where the set vibe is comedy-is they’re true and actual opinion on the subject. Comedians are supposed to joke about taboo topics and say crazy things because it’s comedy and isn’t supposed to be taken seriously. people are getting so triggered lately by comedians because they can’t get it through their head that they’re jokes, not true opinions or beliefs. Relax, this is a comedy podcast and she’s a comedian, stop acting like she is serious and believes the things she’s saying when this isn’t meant to be serious. There are Plenty of terrible people who seriously do believe and defend horrible things/people, go talk about them for their views, not a comedian who is joking.
@@Ievanh6 yeah no I disagree- I think it is quite obvious when she’s serious- the points that I mm referring to weren’t sarcastic. I’m not saying cancel her- im just stating the fact that I’m not keen of her and that I think she’s a pick me- it’s really not that deep trust me
When she said she's not sure if she can breastfeed because she has "larger" breasts seemed like she just wanted an opportunity to one-up herself. Like that's not a thing first of all and they look average like she's not a medical phenomenon
THIS is exactly the vibe I got from her. Really annoying to listen to ugh
Holy shit that whole Gabe interaction was pure gold. 🤣😂
Everything Whitney says about her eating disorder story I relate to so much. So nice to see someone talk about it in this real way instead of the over glamourised way some Influencers do.
Lmao she said, “feels like I’m having a heart attack. A little young for this, but fair.” 💀 lmaoooo
Whitney saying young people need to face more adversity feels hilariously out of touch. Try out being bottom rung right now in this corporate world and tell me if I can really go to my higher ups who are all friends with the people being awful to me. Thanks for Ethan and Hila for pushing back

Hila, HR is not for the people, it's there to protect the company.
Protecting the workers can also align to benefit he company. It's not like hr is always bad
@@mattspyro Them not being "bad" is coincidental and not predicated on supporting employees.
Most often, they do not allign. This misunderstanding of HR's role has lead many workers to lean on this department for help in regards to abuse/bad conditions, only for them to cover for those behaviors, try to paint the employee as the one in the wrong, manipulate the employee to avoid litigation. They are a tool for the company, not employees
I like Whitney but I love Hila and Ethan for pushing back on some of her points a little bit. Like the whole HR thing and her kinda trying to imply that younger people are too soft and sensitive
Right
I mean, younger people are too soft and sensitive just look at this comment section.
The essence of her point is true, I’ve hand plenty of experience with some coworkers my age running to HR for the smallest trigger. One co worker was slacking off and would disappear for hours so our manager just told them that they needed her to get her work done by the end of her shift because she was failing to do so. Her response? Report our manager to HR for bullying and targeting her. But Whitney just got carried away and was joking around. I don’t believe she would actually do what she was saying. I listen to her pod regularly and she likes to discuss both sides of topics like these in depth and talk honestly about how she feels. She’s always very open to listening and learning from what others have to say in response.
@@Ievanh6 I mean I like Whitney I get it, she’s in a circle of people who kind of ride off the notion that young people and cancel culture is ruining comedy. Ethan and Hila just have a lot more respect and understanding for young people in my generation I think
I agreed with her to a point yk, I thought she was generalizing a lot of the younger work force, but again in her section of work (being a scrip writer and a comedian) the people working there with her need to have an opinion about these things. So imo her opinion was completely valid when she was referring to her own career regarding hr…
Great podcast!! I’m sure the reupload issue was probably annoying to deal with. "if you're testing your cocaine..."
if you're shaming somebody for getting their recreational drugs tested so they can practice proper harm reduction you can go. have fun playing with some more raccoons
proper harm reduction would be to not take cocaine
@@JebediahSpringfield ok
@@JebediahSpringfield This is a terrible arguement. Obviously, the best thing for your health would be to not do cocaine, BUT if you are going to do cocaine why wouldn't you want to do it in the safest way possible? Why would you make something that's already dangerous even more dangerous by not taking proper precautions? Is the argument your making that you shouldn't practice harm reduction when doing drugs because the drugs are already dangerous, isn't that more reason to do it safely? Or are just saying "don't do drugs" because if that's the case then your not contributing anything lmao nobody thinks cocaine is a healthy thing to do, but people are gonna do it anyways so it's good to promote harm reduction to minimize negative outcomes.

Now Ethan, you damn well know we are going to need a better birthday celebration of Olivia than that. No way yall doing our girl like that. Dan, AB, write another birthday celebration into the next show or the foot soldiers will rebel.
The way Whitney spoke about Logan’s behaviour was really disappointing. Stop infantilising grown men. He was not a child when this happened. He was 22. No excuses.
He didn’t do anything wrong 😂 stfu
Cuz of her strong boomer vibes the thing is that she might feel that having 22 was for her like around 60 years ago, lmao!
1:44:19 is so freaking hilarious to me because of Whitney’s face when Ethan asks if Larry King is still doing shows. Like how does he not know he died last year? That was just perfect!😂😂😂
Oh my god, I had active eating disorders throughout my teenage years and it’s something that I struggle with even now in my early 20s - Whitney’s description of her control issues around it, and the way she isolated herself and used bulimia to get out of social situations is exactly how I feel having an Ed. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone else explain it in that way and I now feel a little less alone lol
Definitely not alone there babe😉 it def gets easier as you grow stronger
That’s probably why she got so much plastic surgery too
So she wants you to not go to HR and talk to her instead but also if you don't say slurs she may fire you for being bad at conversation
Whitney really lost me with her HR and office sensitivity points. Her argument was really shaky and seemed like it just came from a place of being annoyed that other people have feelings and don't wanna approach the head of their company with every issue.

Regarding the old mercury fillings Whitney was talking about, those old silver fillings are an alloy of many metals, which DOES include mercury. The level of mercury is very low, you actually get more mercury from fish than you do from having a silver filling for decades. So don’t worry about it at all! I work as a dental assistant in Canada, and I know there’s many dentists who will use the fact that those fillings have mercury to scare people into replacing them so they can get more money out of them.
