A friend of mine got a letter last week from a movie theater we go to several times a month. The letter said a server there overheard him say a racist comment to his friend. The theater said they need to make sure the theater is a safe space for patrons and servers. !?! Mind you- my fiend is not racist, and the conversation must have been quiet because I was sitting 3 seats down & heard nothing. They said in the letter that if he doesn’t change this speech they will ask him not to go to the theater anymore. 😲 Can you imagine?
The chilling part is that the server was “listening” to his private conversation and demanding he be punished for something that had nothing to do with her!?!
I’ve never heard such a thing in my life. Even if my friend said something racist- are we going to threaten people with removal from public spaces - banish them from society? How will that help anything other than make people more hate filled or make everyone afraid to speak? Maybe you just choose not to associate with people if you don’t like them but the only way to deal with bad speech is to debate & have more speech. That’s what changes hearts and minds. You folks are great, I agree with you 100%....I am in England and we are no way near this although its happening a little bit. I used to visit the states regularly and I saw this sensitivity thing build up gradually every time from 2002 to 2019 and I was flabbergasted!
I’ve lived in the states my entire life and can say 99% arnt tyat way. A few bad apples on twitter can drive news cycles, but that’s an extremely small minority of people that just gets highlighted because controversy sells. There are just way too many people in this country who were raised to believe they had the sovereign right to never be exposed to anything that makes them uncomfortable. I know smoking is bad since I did for 30 yrs but stopped. My mom, dad, and all my relations smoked and none of us had any problems hell they even drank. I don't know why some had problems maybe it was in their gene pool to start with, I did not smoke when ask to but its not the smoke look at all the child problems of today compared to years ago, could be the food we eat now that has all kinds of stuff in it to keep it lasting period.

Man we hired an 18 year old at my work. He wasnt doing a good job after being trained multiple times so i was going to move him to an area that he would be better at. The kid cried and said it is illegal to single him out just because he doesnt understand the job. Literally balled tears while calling the district manager and telling him that he would sue the company if i wasnt terminated immediately.
