    My team (Doncaster) are gonna be in Wrexham’s league and so far I get the idea that the club and their fans expect promotion and nothing less. But with a mentality like that you get teams like Sunderland in league one where they fall short at the final hurdle. Don’t get too cocky and as good as it is to be ambitious your not gonna become massive overnight. Great work so far by the owners and Ryan & Rob are owners every EFL club wishes they had and success is definitely coming but still keep respect for the rest of league 2 and it’s teams

      Donny fan too. Theyve made one signing and rely heavily on Paul Mullin who is currently injured.
      The wrexham hype is beyond a joke in my opinion. They only just beat Notts County and Notts County have improved their squad massively. People are just blindly backing them to win it because they are the vogue club to talk about.
      The only benefit to wrexham this season is that we might see donny on sky at some point.
      Wrexham will be mid table. You heard it here first

      I would agree as a Sunderland fan to an extent, but the project at Wrexham is obviously completely different as Sunderland should never have been in league one (although we rightly ended up there). However it took us 4 years to finally accept ourselves as a league one club which coincided in us achieving promotion. expectations mean nothing if you don’t perform over 46 games and earn it. Can’t see Wrexham getting near autos and surprised the club have so much trust in Parkinson. I’d be surprised if they got past L2/L1 with him still in charge personally and there hasn’t been too many additions to their squad.

  • @DraigBlackCat
    @DraigBlackCat Před 9 měsíci +1

    I have followed SAFC & Wrexham since the 70's (but that is a separate story).
    I don't know what happened inside SAFC during our 4yrs in L1 but we never had a season without some hystrionics and escaped from it only after Alex Neil brought some organisation and man motivation. For whatever reason our players didn't play together under Parky. I could see the formation he was trying to play at SAFC, but our players couldn't (or wouldn't) adapt to a wingback system and our midfield was poor so too often we tended to go route 1.
    Things at Wrexham are considerably different. The owners are well liked & they have the fans right behind them.
    Parky wasn't universally liked when he arrived (I was singularly unimpressed) & he had a poor first few months. He has been unlucky with injuries in both seasons but over 2 seasons he has built a squad that would run through brick walls for him.
    But perhaps the biggest plus in relation to Parky is he handles use of substitutions far better than he did at SAFC and he can change the shape of the team out on the pitch.
    As with SAFC, Wrexham are every team's Cup Final, but we have mazey midfielders, a pacey winger on each flank, we can play a quick passing game through midfield and can use the long ball to judiciously miss them out. What is more, with an accurate, long throw expert like Tozer, in the side the opposition hesitate to break up attacks by just putting the ball out when that is their best option - this puts them under more pressure and has led to a number of Wrexham goals. Plus Wrexham score plenty of goals from throws and set pieces.
    Additionally we have plenty of players who can shoot from long range.
    Then you have the crowd. It is more like Roker Park than the SOL, with a natural core of vociferous fans behind the goal, right next to the away fans in one corner - so both sets of fans improve the noise output of the other.
    Will this be enough? I can't say. We have our weaknesses and have struggled when the opposition press tightly and we are prone to defensive implosions which can silence the fans. I am just looking forward to a good season in what looks like the most competitive L2 for a long time.
    That said, the number of promotion slots mean that you are still in with a good chance at a promotion place even after a poor run of form. I would back Wrexham to go up this season but I'm not expecting an easy ride, let alone finishing top.

  • @davidwood4118
    @davidwood4118 Před 9 měsíci +5

    Parkinson is wary of hubris and stupidity. If they bag 2-3 compatible, high-end players before the window closes, they'll overcome the loss of Mullin. Then, after re-loading in January, Wrexham will deliver strong results in the second half of the season. Promotion via the playoffs looks a reasonable bet.

  • @THIRV

    Lifelong Wxm fan here. No, very unlikely. The likes of MKD, Gillingham, Stockport and Notts County, Bradford City etc, will all be up there.
    I’m just glad we are back in the FL, that’s the main thing for me. Anything more is just a bonus. We remember where we’ve just come from!
    I think our current squad is really strong, and we didn’t particularly need to bring in new faces, which can upset the dressing room and are arguably no better than what we have.
    I’d rather give the current squad their chance for a year or two, see what they can do.
    I predict somewhere between 3rd and 6th, but this is football. Anything can happen, with injuries, etc.

    • @elaineblackhurst1509
      @elaineblackhurst1509 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Perhaps it’s all about the start; last season Stockport County took just 8 points from the first 10 games and had I think 5 sendings-off; after that, they took more points from the rest of the season than anyone else.
      Biggest difference in League 2 - no fodder (County won 21 out of 22 against the bottom half when they won the NL), and at least half the teams last season in League 2 came to Edgeley Park and tried to park the bus, usually very effectively.
      Wrexham will do well, but need to adapt quicker than did County.

    • @THIRV
      @THIRV Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@elaineblackhurst1509 ah that’s right, as you say County did start slowly, to many peoples surprise. But current form after the bad start was the best in the division, which is why you’re hotly tipped to carry on that run into this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if we mirror what you did, No Mullin for a while. We aren’t a one man team, but he’s still a very big loss when he’s out injured. When County were in the NLN I couldn’t believe it, and always thought it was just a matter of time before a full recovery. I’m sure a trip to L1 is just round the corner for you. The thing is then is to be able to settle in there, as there’s some big clubs in L1, but hey that’s all part of the journey and the fun. Have a good season, I for one won’t be even slightly surprised if we are lagging behind you. Cheers.

      I would think Wrexham will have looked at County’s very poor start last season with a view to learning from it; most of County’s recruitment for this season has been about trying to find better ways through massed defences of teams that turned up at EP with sole aim of avoiding defeat - suspect you’re going to find the same.
      Wrexham are minus Mullin for a while, but County won’t see Wootton until October - if then; both are big misses in different ways.

    • @THIRV
      @THIRV Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@elaineblackhurst1509 I’m sure you’re right. Parky will have learned from that. I think he has faith in his squad as it stands and doesn’t want to bring in new faces for the sake of it. I hope that the players and Parky also know that the awful nervy atmosphere at our ground in the last couple of years, should be less tense, less expectation , than we’ve had lately. Most of the even minded fans will know there’s no promise of going up again, and we are just glad to be in the mix. As you say there’ll be some clubs coming and parking the bus. It’ll be a grind, but i for one won’t be as edgy about that now. I promise! It was a nightmare being in NL wasn’t it, for both our clubs, and indeed for those still there like Southend, Oldham, etc. let’s enjoy the season, and hope for the best. Cheers Elaine!

But I also think many people are underestimating many teams in League 2. Gillingham are on the up, Stockport I imagine will keep how good they were, Salford are gonna be up there again I reckon, not to mention MK Dons who only just got relegated from League One, they ain't gonna want to stay in League Two for long.

      Totally and utterly. The BBC are obsessed with them. Undoubtedly half of Football Focus on Saturday will be dedicated to them. In fact I`m willing to bet that they will have a reporter there for the first game of the season going about Deadpool and his grinning mate and what a wonderful job they are doing. I found the fact that the BBC had a special programme about a non-league team touring their City (thats a joke if ever there was one. Wrexham a City. yeah sure it is) on a open top bus sickening. They have never done it before so why for this club? They brought the Conference and they will probably do likewise with League 2 as they will wait to see the situation come the Winter transfer window and if they are not in the top 3 they will hurl a fortune into new players. What is never mentioned about Wrexham is what comes with them. Thogden mentioned about Wrexham not being somewhere clubs want to go. It`s certainly somewhere a lot of fans of these clubs don`t like to go as Wrexham have an extremely nasty element in their fan base which comes out particually for local clashes as fans of Stockport, Shrewsbury, Chester and my own club etc will testify hence the large number of police they have on duty during their home games.

      @@OxtonSWAyep, can’t disagree, as a Wxm fan. My dad was a lifelong SWA fan, from when he was about 7 he went to games til he passed away age 79. Not sure any of us buy into the City thing, everyone says they’re off Into Town, the club has a minor nickname of The Town, too. Most fans don’t have the arrogance that other clubs fans think we’ve got. We are just glad to be back up, the NL was hideous as you know yourself too. I was made up when Tranmere got back up, my dad just missed out seeing it happen sadly. I took him to games right up to that point , even though he was struggling to walk by then. Was happy to give TRFC a cheer, and are in some ways my 2nd club, even though I know we shouldn’t have one! And absolutely, there’s a toxic group of so called fans who attach themselves to the club only for the local derbies etc, with the sole aim of fighting. We know that.
      All the best for the new season, hope you do well, and I’ll always be happy to see that.
