Corrections:
Clarification on track actions. If you've completed a green/yellow and a red outcome at the same time, the success will usually bring in a new POI card, which stops the red outcome before it can happen. If it doesn't, then both outcomes will occur.

I laughed Out loud when Shea was like "It's cool, i promise!---" and gets cut off haha
Very, very cool. Very, very concise. If you got sponsored to do this, it was money well spent. Thanks!
Thanks!
Great stuff, thanks for the walk-through. If you are getting lost during any point of this video, I'd recommend putting it on .75 playback speed, since he can speak a bit quickly in sections.
LMAO I just did that, came to the comments and saw this! I agree. 0.75 all the way!
So happy to see you did a video on this game! Mine is coming next week, looking forward to it.
I enjoy your style and pacing. Very visual, teaching by example. Not too long, easy to watch a second time for double checking a point.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Ah! I was just looking up videos to share for this board game, and my favourite "How to play" channel already has one up! Love y'all!
Thanks! Happy to help!
Very well done, and kudos to the makers for getting you on board.
Way cool/helpful tutorial vid! Definitely looking forward to this unique game. So much to learn, maybe a bit overwhelming, but pretty excited about finally deep diving into it! Cheers!
Great overview Shea looking forward to this arriving hopefully in a few weeks 🙂
Another top notch tutorial! Thanks Shea :)
Thank you as always - really looking forward to this one coming in to land! ❤️❤️❤️ (Def. Very, very anticipated!)
Happy to help. And it'll be worth the wait.
Great show. I especially like your understanding of the game, the way you play allows me to learn a lot.😄
Happy to help!
Great introduction to the ISS Vanguard - thank you very much, Shea and Awaken Realms :)
Thanks! Happy to help!
This is my go-to channel for learning new games. Thank you for another excellente tutorial! Cheers!!
Thanks!
Superb video! Well done Shea.
Thanks!
BRAWO ARy! Słuszny wybór Pana od zasad. [:
Thanks, laid it out well!
Great vid!!! Will be referencing it a ton I’m sure!! Thank you
Happy to help!
Mate … cool tutorial! Thanks.
Great intro, thanks!
Man, i'm so like you...everything space related hits a nerve...
Top notch video for sure! Thanks!!
Much appreciated!
Thanks, it was a good tutorial
Really good tutorial and run down of the game. Sadly not my type of game but it looks like it would be a lot of fun for the people into that sort of thing.
''that sort of thing"'*
Nice, hoping to get my shipping info next week. (Canada)
Finally got my shipping notification. We're calling this a MASSIVE failure on the part of Lion Rampart. Sat in the warehouse for 2 months. What a joke, regardless, THURSDAY!
Well done sir!
Thanks!
All right thumbs up let's do this!
Merci ;) Great explanations !
Thanks!
Top Congrats
man this looks very intimidating to me. I can't wait to get my copy but this looks difficult.
Same but I had the same thoughts when I first got Gloomhaven but that's my groups favorite game.
We are just going to take it slow and do what we can
It can seem like a lot when you look at it all as a whole, but the game does a great job of slowly bringing you in so you don't have to learn everything all at once.
Wow it looks really cool! Can’t wait to put my hands on my copy of the full Kickstarter bundle.
Very very light overview of the ship phase not explaining how to start a project, how to boost a project, and all the symbols on situations cards for example how to get rid of them. Considering this is advertised on the AR website as a tutorial its lacking key information which is also extremely difficult to find in the rulebook.
Feels a bit like the 3 phases of Kingdom Death Monster :)
Thanks for the help as this game has been challenging to learn. My attention issues has made it difficult to learn.
Glad I could help!
Having recently played Middara, that juice box joke is too real haha.
:D
Great tutorial. Thanks! I had one query over the rule you discuss at 09:00 about resolving outcomes where both tracks have been completed. You state in the video to resolve top to bottom but to only resolve first outcome and no others, however in the rulebook (step 10 on page 20) it seems to imply resolving all completed outcomes, but it is a bit vague on that, so wanted to check you had the right. Thoughts?
Yes top to bottom if possibile, but some outcomes will have you replace location cards so any other outcomes on the original location will be removed
khewit has it right, but I'll add a note making this clear. Most of the time track outcomes replace the POI, so this doesn't come up often.
So excited to be receiving this soon! I got a question regarding using crewmembers in the ship phase. After you use them, are they still available for the next mission or do they go to the resting crew section?
I believe if they're used during ship phase they need to rest so don't make it on the next mission
They go to the resting section.
This game and nemesis seem extremely overwhelming with the rules but really aren't bad once you're playing
Yeah both of them have a bit of a learning curve, but after a while you really get into the groove of it.
Questions about injury dice 19:45
These are probably silly questions, but I have two.
1: after the dice are rolled and applied to the cards because of their matching symbols, do the dice stay on the cards and off your character board, no longer taking up the other dice space, or after step 10 on the dice check sheet, you put all the injury dice from both the cards and spent pool back on the board to be rolled again later?
2: if an injury card gets flipped over, do you still keep the injury die on the board, or does it go away, just leaving the card behind as 1/4 injuries before Emergency Evac?
- I feel like the dice would still stay on the board, making it more likely to activate any other injury cards you may have or get, after the card is flipped face down, and all the injury dice after step 10 get put back on the board to keep activating the injuries everytime you roll, but I just wanted to ask to make sure. Thanks for the help and in making this video💜🙏
You have it right. No matter the result (unless something specifically says otherwise) you return the injury dice to your board so you can keep rolling it. As well, unless something says to remove a die, it stays with you even if you flip the card.
That makes sense. Thank you very much🙋♂️☺️
how do sleeved cards fit in the binder if at all, also the plastic boxes will they fit in those sleeved ?
The binder spaces are a little oversized, so sleeved cards fit in them no problem. Same with the boxes.
"Deadly barrage of molten sugar." Now I wish that was an actual spoiler for the game. ISS Sugar Rush, anyone?
12:48 Assistant crew can't convert actions, but can the active player convert the dice they got from an assistant?
31:11 If you can't pay for the first one, can you still spend crew for others?
Hey, sorry for the late response. Active players can convert assisted dice. They treat the dice as if they had rolled them. And when it comes to the Research Lab, you can always choose which project to start with, it doesn't have to be the one in the top left spot. So if you only want to do one project, you won't need to spend crew.
@@RTFM no prob. Thnx for the reply. I would have found out eventually XD I got my game yesterday and spent the entire day sleeving cards while watching CZcams.
I got to the 5 minute mark and the dice part confused me 😅. I just bought this game today with the standee figure box. It looks like a really fun game! ❤
How are you supposed to shuffle the unsolved situation into the possible situations, when the possible situations are in order in the card reserve?
The possible situations are supposed to be shuffled, not in a specific order. The numbers on them are so you can easily pull specific ones from future situations to add to the possible ones.
Quick question. Do I shuffle every discovery decks before planetary exploration?
Hey, sorry for the late reply. Yes you do, though anything you've taken from those decks stays with you in the ship binder until you spend it.
Great video, as always. I'll say this though... this looks a bit similar to Etherfield and that worries me (rule wise) - I won't pretend to be a God tier boardgamer but I've played (and learned!) my share and for some reasons, Awaken Realms games, while all superb quality, totally throw me off rule wise. I can't figure out why story telling games like these that should flow naturally and learn as you play feel that disjointed to me. Hopefully I'll get this one to the table as Etherfield sadly remains on my shelf of shame :/ Thanks again!
Thanks! While I haven't played every game that Awaken Realms has put out, I have noticed a gradual improvement of their rulebooks. I think Vanguard actually does a pretty great job of teaching you the game as you play. And from what I've heard, it's being compared pretty favorably against Etherfield.
@@RTFM Well, we just played the Tutorial mission and it turns out they did extremely well with this one! I'd highly recommend people play the tutorial mission firstand then refer to your excellent video. Beautiful game and definitely not messy rules wise (at least early on) vs Etherfield :).
When you assign a crewmember to a ship task, what happens to him/her? He/she goes into the awaiting bag or to the resting crew? My guess is that it goes to the resting crew, correct? Also for how long this crewmember is assigned to a ship task?
Assigned crew perform their task immediately and are placed in the resting crew area right away.
@@RTFM thanks!!!
Very good kind of content but I kindly ask you to take in consideration two little topics to enhance the quality because the overall experience result been not so good despite the effort you have invested:
- it would be better to speak slower, because the concepts are many and people need a bit of time to follow you properly and understand at the same time what you are explaining. Creating this kind of contents is like having a small digital lesson... often stopping and going back to be sure to have understood the mechanics could become a bit frustrating
- the sound quality is a bit metallic, most of all if you try to follow reducing the speed to 0.75 (while following at normal speed the problem is not perceivable.
Hope you don't get offended... I shared this tow little issues because I like yours contents and hope it could help in improving the overall quality fo the great videos you provide us!
Do you recommend playing this game solo? Is it possible?
It's definitely possible, you kinda just play it as if it were a two player game, with you holding two hands of cards. I prefer it with at least two, but if you don't mind double handing, it's still a great game.
I am not sure about one thing. When I roll dice and I roll accident and the PI card has no special effect for accident symbol, is there any negative impact or is it just a useless symbol then? Thanks
In that case, it's just a useless symbol and can't be used for anything except to be changed/rerolled/discarded by other effects.
@@RTFM thank you 🙂
Why did he have the card the trial and error card
Your T-Shirt, where is it from?
I got it from The Meeps' store. Lotta good gaming shirts there.
What is the song in the outro?
It's called Jericho, by Zac Nelson
Awesome tutorial but I really need to know, what's up with the squeeky noises?
Is that the mic?
That comes from my throat. I have a filter that catches it most of the time, but it's pretty difficulty to edit out all of it.
@@RTFM Im sorry to ask you about this but Huh?
Im just more intrigued now!
@@callmemich I don't know what to tell you. It's just something that happens when I talk sometimes.
I just want the minis.
The minis are pretty great.
Attacking a threat only once per turn and then do something else (like rest) feels a little bit off. Attacking is a special action. And i dont like the limitation to only one special action per turn.
I think of it like how in DnD you only get one standard action, one move and a bonus. You can give up your standard for another move, but not the other way around.
Is this a one and done campaign game?
I believe so, but I'm pretty sure there will be expansions that add new chapters to the story.
Please do Clank
Kupiłem grę w wersji PL, w instrukcji podali linka do tej instrukcji, wchodzę, a kolo nawija po angielsku XD XD XD nieładnie Awaken Realms, nieładnie...
Hello, the automatic translation in another language does not work, I only get the subtitles in English, any solution? Thank you
CZcams doesn't really do a widespread auto-translate. I could do it one at a time for specific languages, but that would involve writing the english subtitles manually first, which is pretty difficult for a long video like this. Sorry.
Eh. Not feeling it. Thank you for vid.
This teach was chaos. You’ve GOT to introduce the moving parts first. Almost useless.
Sounds extremely complicated
It's definitely a heavy game, yeah. There's a pretty solid walkthrough that gets you started though.
@@RTFM I'll back the second edition, not this one.
i don't have a problem with heavy games at all. But when I don't understand at all how to "read" the dice from your explanation, I don't understand how to read the mission cards you showed, maybe it's your camera but the red/black stuff is hard to make out, that is a problem.
As much as I love the Lost in Space vibe, Danger, Will Robinson, at this point in time it's not for me. In terms of rule explanation you start with the complex stuff first, I'd invert that approach personally.
The people giving you kudos should really watch a quality teach such as those provided by Gaming Rules! This was awful. Utter chaos.
you could've explained some components before diving in , also you were kinda fast , couldn't digest your explanation
Man way too fast! Would have to watch this 3 times

His rebellion vids are amazing this one was a little fast/confusing.. Back here for a 2nd watch cause its a good explain even though
Just sent to Awaken Realms: “After receiving my copy of ISS Vanguard I can only say I’m really disapointed about the difficulty for playing this game being color blind. Before using neolanguage to pretend being more inclusive, which doesn’t affect at all to the playability of the game, I would suggest you to think that all these aids for color blind people are absolutely necessary, and like this is simply unplayable. It’s full of cards with coloured dice that doesn’t have any help to recognise which colour is. Only a no sense line at the end on the manual, in the glossary of icons that I’m still wondering what is supposed to be used for. I’m probably selling my copy. Thanks”
tbh im completely shocked by AR recommending this video as an official guide, its so incohesive, messy, erratic, so much stuff explained in such a bizzare way..
Dude speaks way too quickly and monotonously. Nothing has emphasis; too hard to follow.
I'm sorry but I still do feel there is a lot of bias in this video.
For…? Staying alive? Its a tutorial for anyone who does have the game and wants a quick start.
@@james2yu Its really cool, and other comments
I'm sorry, but don't you have a fake feud with that Quackalope cretin to attend to? 🥱
Not all of us can match your artistic integrity, Jeff.
1) it's just a rule guide, not a review.
2) it is commissioned by AR (and acknowledged as such), so, the small parts meant to make the audience excited are fine. And they are quite subtle too. they could be seen as the guy wanting you to remain engaged in his video.
Looks overproduced and fiddly for what it is. Typical Kickstarter game.
