39:35 Wait one second doesn't the second expansion replace the ambassador
The Reformation expansion can be played with either the Ambassador or the Inquisitor. The reference cards are double-sided; one side shows the actions you can take with the Inquisitor, and the other shows the action you can take with the Ambassador.
@@hkgcgsdhjgd ahh ok thanks
17:37 Anyone catch what was said that made everyone clap, when Sully is trying to finish his limerick? 😅
İ
Tomska is just a part of no rolls barred now, no featured in the title, no mentions, he’s just a part of the cast now and we have to accept it
dude just likes (board) gam(bl)ing
Good.
@@minkazistherealone1828what is board gambling? betting on board games?
"Yay! I'm the center of attention" - Adam
"That's how I know we're twins" - Dan
Great exchange
5:05 I have never, in all my days, seen someone utterly miss the point of a dice tower as Dan did. Thank you, Dan, for bringing such a smile to my face!
that moment already made my day xD
1. I also did not understand the point of the dice tower, I also just thought it was a funky ornament
2. The fact that the die DID NOT SPIN AT ALL going down the stairs has made happy in thinking there really was no point in the tower
@@ZoeyAnonschild of course it turned over. It just happened to land on the same number.
@@lemiless I watched it (I’m referring to the first use of the tower in the video, which was the only use I’d seen when I made that comment) back at lower playback speed
Touché.
True story: Back when I was on the amateur poker scene, I brought Coup to play between games if I got eliminated. The other poker players absolutely loved the game and it became a staple after getting eliminated and waiting for the next game to start. I love this game so much.
Imagine being eliminated twice in a row
One time I pranked a bunch of friends by using the dukes from like 4 sets to make it so we all had double dukes. It was chaos.
Dan my type of gamer. Knows he has the win but knows he has a guaranteed more dramatic, satisfying victory. That my dear NRBarredians, is a textbook savage!
I'm sorry, but you could have gone for NRBards.
Bluffing Ambassador is the key to this game. No one ever calls you on it, because it feels like you’re not doing anything. But it makes it so people can never be sure what you have
Best comment here
Turn 0 bluff Duke and Abassador, this is what my games with friends have always devolved into, nobody wants to call anyone out and everyone is shuffling through the deck to try and figure out specifically how many people are lying lol.
the ambassador is perceived as such a weak card among my game group, they don't play unless it's replaced with the inquisitor
I believe Laurie should have lost the last game. Sully assassinated him Laurie claimed Contessa. Sully called him on it and was right so Laurie loses 1 for the Contessa lie and then 1 for the assassin
You are 100% correct. How all six players (plus Teri) failed to catch that is beyond me.
Yup. Them's the rules.
Agreed as well. Laurie should’ve been out.
Thank you for picking up on this too it's wild that none of them picked up on that or that none of them knew of the ruling
They know the rules, Adam did say this was the first time he's brought the expansion out so I assume thinking about the new rules had them forget this 1 rule?
Best channel on CZcams. NRB awoke a passion in me for board games. I can’t thank them enough.
Same
It returned the passion for me
I now trying to save up for my own cafe. Just to be paid to play them. Plus I don’t have much friends to play with.
Same. I own like 20 now. When I owned 5 that people had just given me over time.
Saaaaame!!!
A-FUCKIN-greed
Coup is one of my favorites -- very easy to learn, so much fun telling the truth the whole game and still winning, even more fun making smart bluffs!
I like how the first few episodes with Tom had him as a feature but now he’s just chilling with them.
1:18:19 he should have lost two cards here... he lied about having a contessa and got assassinated... otherwise i think you all played it by the rules... great game and video love the vibe this game gives.
I was about to comment this. Bluffing contessa is a big risk for that reason; you can lose both cards in a single turn.
Dan is so good at Coup. If you play again, you have to bring him back.
I want a Dan vs. Jon showdown
I'm pretty sure the outcome of the turn starting at 1:17:31 should have been Laurie being knocked completely out, having been both assassinated and challenged on his Contessa claim. (Does unfortunately somewhat undermine the moment at 1:19:45)
yeah! I agree, also just saw that one. I believe it was a mistake
No, falsely claiming contessa to stop your own assassination ends in one card being lost, otherwise people lose too quickly and it’s no fun
Obviously play how you prefer, that’s just the intention
@Cole Moore No it's expressly in the rules that you lose both cards in that scenario.
@@colemoore5007 By that rules interpretation there is no downside to claiming contessa and everyone should always do it when being targeted by an assassin.
@@colemoore5007 yeah no, you are explicitly wrong, by the rules of the game getting called on the false claim is a sepearate card loss to the assasination so you would lose both, and yes it does mean people can go out quickly but thats the entire point, you balance the risk reward of lying about having a contessa rather than just accepting the single card loss. Its fine if thats how your group chooses to house rule it but it does just make the game objectively worse, it removes a layer of strategical choice and makes the assassin much weaker.
I really like seeing Tom on this channel, hes really chill but there are those one out of the nowhere liners and it just sends me
Sully couping Brooke at the end and her saying, "I know where your food comes from!" Epic stuff. A very fun and entertaining episode
I cannot express how funny it was that Dan ended the first game that way.
@@KingDomsKingdom85 that's not an appropriate comment to make
6:27 legit thought that Sully had gained the power of sounding like Brooke with her standing next to him everyday and all that.
Laurie should have died when Sully called out the Contessa in that 4th match (lose card for being called out then assassinate for second) Obviously we need another whole episode of Coup to make up for this (pretty please)
100% Agree. Laurie needs to pay up and make amends for his sin by winning in many more games of Coup
dan’s strategy & panache are both unparalleled
Gotta say I love the variety of players you guys get. It's great to have a core group, but rotating 1-2 people every few games between filming means we get new jokes and interactions all the time.
NRB is the Tabletop for the 2020s. The failing imo is that it DOES NOT have enough variety in terms of players. Oh its Adam, Sully, Laurie and Brooke yet again. It doesn't have a pool of semi famous people to draw on. People who are not gamers nor local actors. Why is that important? because the same old gang just perpetuates the clique nature of some hobby gamers.
I totally agree with the above post
Playing board games can be fun and enjoyable .When you have actors who have the experience and knowledge of how to express themselves it helps with the game play. Sometimes it feels that NRB is for their primary enjoyment rather than the general public.
@@skyblazeeternoAdam, Sully, and Laurie are like, the core. Brooke really isn't in it all that much, and they cycle in new people every episode. You basically can be certain of three people being there, and then everyone else is whoever is there that day.
so happy to see tomska and dan on here again :)
I adore Dan in this episode, absolutely fantastic. Everyone was great! What a fun episode full of good moments.
Every time I see Dan in a video I get so excited. He's just so damn funny. He personifies empathetic sassy queen so perfectly.
I love the Tomska episodes so much. The two funniest people on CZcams playing one of my favorite games. Chefkiss.
And Adam is also there!
1:10:25 According to the rules, you can actually challenge someone even if he is on your team.
1:18:18 Laurie would have lost both cards as he lost a challenge and was also assassinated.
45:19 "I've got a story to tell!"
so on the way to pensicola there was a guy with a reptile pit
the first two games had me giggling and laughing out loud at everyone's antics... Dan was basically born to play Coup
Petition for more Daniel J Layton on NRB
Na you’re alright thanks
@@andrewclifton185 don’t know what your smoking
YES
Petition for the guy who waves to the camera in the NRB opening to come and play a game.
Who doesn’t like a bit of camp
One of the weirdest strategies I have ever seen while playing coup is where you don’t look at your own cards until it’s required so that not even you know if your lying allowing for the ultimate risk/reward
Oh my gosh, Dan's use of the dice tower 😂😂❤
Dan's last move in that first game is one of the cuntiest moves I've ever seen and I AM LIVING!! holy shit I laughed so hard I cried. Bravo!
You have no idea how happy I am to see Dan on the thumbnail. Last one he was in, he was unfortunately cropped out.
End of the second game, Dan should have just kept taking money until he had enough to coup, he would have gotten there before Sullivan.
Omg this is my favourite card/board game! Lovely to see the NRB crew have a go at it
Yesss I've been waiting for in-person Coup!!
But it is a crime to not have Jon Gracey in here so people cannot kiss his grits
Totally missed a Good Burger reference with all these dukes. “I’m a duke, he’s a duke, she’s a duke, cuz we’re all dukes!”
What do you call the Hambassador when they’ve been around Bees for too long…
Honey Hambassador.
51:58 only Dan could get away with saying watching others play a board game is dull while being on a board game channel
I like playing COUP a lot, except for the fact there is a single card which gives you a huge advantage. The Duke gives you way more power than other cards, for the simple fact that drawing coins is the main objective and it is very easy to bluff. And even when it is revealed for one reason or another, there is no counterplay. A player with the Duke is able to assassinate at a better rate than even the Assassin card, because "coin" assassination can't be blocked.
Despite this, I do enjoy all other aspects of the game, especially the lying part of it.
I think the expansions addition of the inquisitor and team roles give a more even playing field.
I agree. The Reformation expansion is a massive improvement over the base game.
The ambassador is the best card.
Hardly gets challenged and gives you Intel. Also blocks stealing
When you can bluff it so easily why even have it in your hand?
"bit harsh to knock them out of the game early" *sullivan stares directly into the camera*
You know what I'd do? Claim to have every role. I'm very clearly lying out my ass but it's a gamble what I'm lying about. I'd also take a new card pretty regularly, to add to the confusion
I like how Sullys insults about Dan get less offensive in the talking head bit around 36 minutes in
For Patrons who don't have the time to watch two entire BGC's a week yet still wish to consume every bit of content NRB has to offer, I present the timestamps of the talking heads:
5:39 TomSka
6:46 Adam
12:34 TomSka
16:33 Brooke
20:14: Dan
26:21 Dan
26:49 Adam
32:01 TomSka
36:02 Sully
42:14 Adam
42:38 TomSka
☝️☝️ Consecutive
51:58 Dan
1:01:54 Adam
1:14:37 Laurie
1:23:47 TomSka
1:27:41 Laurie
1:28:13 Adam
☝️☝️ Consecutive
That's amazing! I usually skip the unedited BGC episodes just because I prefer getting to see the little interview segments, this is a really cool idea
Absolute legend.
@@brandonvangieson8087 I realized I actually couldn't decide between the talking heads and the extended gags/"deleted scenes"/extra rounds. And that surely at least some other patrons almost _have to be_ in the same boat, because nothing says "I want to see more of these people" than laying your money down
Given how many likes these are actually getting (when I get them up early enough 🤣), I was actually going to go on an entire playlist binge regardless for nostalgia sake, so I might just eff around and do this for every single BGC as I go
Dan is a mad lad and a genius! Edit after 2nd game: I stand correct!!!! Dan you had the advantage, just get to Coup Money first!
lol Adam people don’t tune to see you win a board game! Ha ha ha they tune in to see Sullivan, and Dan Layton’s chest hair
I love Dan! He's an absolute delight, especially for the in person episodes of BOTC. Please say he will be making more frequent appearances!
One of my greatest board game memories from when I played a lot of them during college involves this game. Social deduction isn't really my cup of tea, so when everyone wanted to play this game, I decided that I didn't want to look at my roles for an extra bit of thrill. When people challenged them, I usually lost, but I was just as surprised as everyone else when I actually was the role I claimed. I lost almost every time. Almost. The one game I won was amazing. Might be a good House Rules episode if you wanted to make it one.
There is a great little game called Mascarade that has that mechanic baked into the rules! The game intentionally adds that uncertainty into it at the set up, and throughout the game people can switch around the character cards (or not) in secret. If it's your turn, you have the option to look at your card to confirm what role you have but you can also claim whatever role you want to or think you might be and use the associated power. I find normal bluffing games a bit too stressful, but Mascarade adds in a level of silliness that makes it fun instead of stressful, at least for me.
Absolutely here for Dan on Board Game Club!! More, please, thankyou
Dan makes these videos better! I love watching him and Sully!
The "Of Mice and Men" reference at 34:50 was incredibly underappreciated!
Invested in Dan's dinner plan actually it sounded nice
ITS THE BEST TIME OF THE WEEK!! ITS BOARD GAME CLUB!!!
Coup is one of my favorite quick games to play! Ecstatic you brought this to the table.
Another fantastic banger lets gooo! These videos and board games are starting to become very enjoyable, and I like it.
All of you guys have done a fantastic job
I completely forgotten how great Coup is as a game. I need to find some friends and play it again.... now if I can only find some friends.
It's true, I'll never stop watching until Adam Blampied wins the board game.
Speaking of Lord of the board, I remember you guys mentioning the crown would last for a year, so it should be about time for a new tournament shouldn't it?
Dan's showmanship at the end of the first game was just superb 👏👏
Have been waiting for this game to played by my favorite channel. This was my gateway game. The main reason I loved card games, and then board games overall.
The amount of joy every new episode (and also the old ones) brings me is so so amazing and a huge thank you to the whole No Rolls Barred crew!! ❤❤
Best day of the week again!!! Coup is a game that I'd love to play!! I just need more friends... 😂😭
I love this episode, but also totally get Tom. Like you learn how to play and then NEW RULES 🤣
Dan playing mind games with Adam is so fun
Man, I'm over here having a great day and then I see a new video dropping of some of my favorite people playing a really good social deduction game? You guys are just too much!
Hurrah for this. I'm having a huge pain spike and this is perfect to distract me until it eases.
'Just normal income...' is such a good joke and nobody's talking about it.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG! I’m so happy. I promised myself I wouldn’t cry.
Haven't watched the video, but Sullivan is definitely going to be either the best or worst liar, no in-between.
I love me some Coup!
Coup is one of my favorite board games! Thanks so much!
Coup is such a fun game, so glad you guys are playing it.
Still waiting for LOTB 2... Anyday now... I will be here
I was just thinking yesterday of getting this game and thought i should check this channel for their gameplay! Yay wish granted 😁
This is such a fun hidden role game! So glad you guys decided to play it!
I used to play coup in the library at school, it is always gonna be at the top of my list for favorite card games!
This game always looks so fun. Love it.
I can't count the amount of late nights with friends playing rounds of Coup and Resistance. Lovely game
Oooh lil Broooke I’m going to miss you so much 😢
I see Dan Layton in the thumbnail, I click. As simple as that.
35:00 I won’t say what happens. But. It. Is. Legendary.
The first time Tom was on this channel you could tell he was slightly nervous, now he's a part of the crew, and it's great to see
We need Tomska to play an episode of BOTC! ❤
My favorite way to play this is not looking at my cards and just claiming things
when i'm feeling chaotic, i don't look at my card or i challenge people immediately
NRB, more like NRD. Seriously, Dan and Dom are a barrel of laughs. Always a good show with then around. Also, Tomska really gels nicely with the crew!

I’ve been looking for you guys to play this game! Saw the quarantine feature but was hoping for an irl version!
Oh heck yeah! We love NRB coup'ing each other (Adam) and destroying their (Adam) efforts!
Literally just watched yo coup video from last year and there is another one let's goooooooo
The greatest part of game 2 is this: Sullivan had just spent all his money on a coup, Dan had 4. At this point the max either could gain per turn was 2 from foreign aid. Dan could have just used foreign aid in a race to coup and won. What makes this even greater is that after using the Assassin, Dan still had a coin. from that point he was 3 turns from coup money, whereas Sullivan was 4. The only way Dan could lose was attempting to assassinate twice, and that was the situation which occurred
finally, coup!!! i've been waiting for this for quite some time!!!!!!!!!!!!
People never figured out I guess that Dan lied at the beginning. He said he had a Duke for his 3 coins, and then blocked Adams Captain from stealing with his Captain, yet next round he uses his Ambassador powers to switch cards? That’s 3 characters by my count. Pretty smooth, Dan lol
19:30 That moment was amazing. Dan is a legend.
YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR COUP IN PERSON FOR SO LONG
