Can I built a wooden tar BARREL from scratch?

- Back in the days wooden tar barrels were very common in the area where I live. I thought I would be nice to see if I can build one with traditional techniques. Turn subtitle on for more information.

Very cool, and definitely quite beautiful! If you're going to be making more, and the angles problem gets improved, I bet you can skip the upper internal ring. I remember watching an Irishman making traditional milk buckets. The bucket of course has no inner material at the top. He was a professional cooper, so I'm sure it's very hard to achieve, but your use-case of storing (presumably) rakes and shovels and such does seem more like a very tall bucket than a closed barrel. P.S. I'm in favor of you building a shave horse. I bet you'll find uses for it, and it'd be a cool video.
I agree. Thicker boards and perfect angle and I can skip the upper ring. Shave horse has been on the list for a long time :)

Great video. As soon as I saw the fitting of the bottom of the barrel I thought "You want your kid in there ti hold it up". Great minds.

Would having some bands in the middle help to pull the boards together and make it water/oil proof? Would soaking the rims before steaming have made them more flexible?
Thanks! Soaking could help i guess, but I didn't find a place to do that then.

Great job, and it makes a person appreciate how hard barrels are to make today but especially hard in bygone days. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and keep warm and dry.
