i think they were great as a band, but their solo careers really gave them the opportunity to shine (especially Louis and Niall who didn't have many solos in the band)
Louis is definitely not the technically strongest singer in 1D but he is my favourite. Just bathe me in his tone. 😍
He has a very unique tone. I think he is unfairly criticized because he doesn't have a big powerhouse voice. Power isn't everything. There are many vocal styles and his vocals are great for the kind of music he likes to sing. When people say he can't sing, I point them to a few performances of "Love You Goodbye" and tell them to hush. When he nails that high note at the end, he really shines.

I agree in terms of technicality he might be the weakest but his voice is really pleasant and sweet.
He’s improved so much though technically- like his latest live concert was 🤌🏻🤌🏻technically. Genuinely(my vocal coach aunt watched it w me and that’s what she said, so no this isn’t just an opinion). I don’t think he’s zayn- but he’s a good singer, and the improvement makes him an even better singer(like Niall who improved sososo much).
Louis my favourite love his voice
My fave is Louis. Always has been, always will be. Niall is a close second though. Their vocals are straight up my alley, and they are the only ones whose solo stuff I listen to on the regular. I do like Harry’s tone, but I’ve always thought both Zayn and Liam to be better singers than him, so I would put those two at the top spot, if I were to list them according to range, technique etc.

Zayn really could be such a bigger star if he wanted but his anxiety and distain for the music industry are what holds him back. He's definitely the best singer but Harry has the talent and charisma and that's why he's currently doing better right now.

Watching this really made me stop and think that this had to be hard for you and I can appreciate that you did it anyway. That said, there’s just something about Harry for me, vocally and all around. He’s just got that something that draws you in effortlessly and I’ve never changed my mind but I will say Louis is a close 2nd for me in all around great guy and I’ll just always have a soft spot for him. Love the others too, that’s why I said I realized how hard this must have been for you. I don’t think I could ever number them from least to best but you did and you get props for that! Thanks for doing this. Enjoyed it. Hope it’s not the end of your journey with them as solo artists at least and anytime you wanna throw some 1d stuff in it will be greatly appreciated 💫
I think this order is bang on. It's really difficult for anyone to sensibly suggest that anyone other than Zayn is the best singer.

He breaks my heart with that song! That is actually how I discovered him. I watched the video and he blew me away. I looked him up and had no idea he was the curly one in the boy band. Then, much to my daughter's annoyance, I found out that I like 1D, too. I started playing their music and she asked me, who are you and what have you done with my mother??

Honestly Louis is my personal favourite I just feel like not many people have him as their favourites because he hardly had any lines when he was in 1D but he shines with his solos I’m really glad he gets to show his vocals on his own, and his accent make me like it even more for me.

He's the only solo one I follow. I just like the music he makes. Once in a while I will put a Niall song on, Harry I try. He has some beautiful songs but the over sex message in some of them is too much for me.

Well, technically I kinda agree with your list, even though Louis has always been ma favorite. I think Liam is actually SUPER (like SUPER) talented, but he's almost ''too good'', ''too clean'', he doesn't really have a distinctive tone. Zayn is a god and maybe one of the best vocalists of our generation, but somehow i was never drawn to him. Harry: I've noticed him more and more over the years, and i'm now a complete fan. I never really paid attention to him before because he was a fan-favorite and that did not really appeal much to me, but today i really think he's one of the most brillant artists i've ever seen and heard, he was MADE for this. And finally, there are Niall and Louis, that i would actually put at the top of my list... Firstly Niall BLEW ME AWAY, he has made SO much progress, i can't even begin to explain how MUCH i love his voice, his range, his writing, his style of music. He might be the one I listen to the most. HBW has been on repeat ever since its release last year. And then Louis. Even though he was the ''weakest'' one (in terms of abilities), I was ALWAYS drawn to him. His voice is so angelic, and it makes me feel SO much things. His solos in 1D were my favorites moments of every songs, he brought something to the band that nobody but him could have. You could definitely hear the IMPORTANCE of his voice during their harmonies. His voice gives me the most goosebumps. He's so unique. I adore most of his solos songs. His writing is the best of all, 100%. There's something comforting about Niall and Louis' voices.
Agreed. Liam's voice is too clean and perfect, so it gets "forgotten", unlike the "unique edgy" voices the others have. Usually humans remember imperfect things more.
@@underratedartistes7730 exactly, they sleep on his talent, he has a MUCH larger range than zayn does, Liam can his lower and bass notes that Zayn cannot, and his high notes may not be has high, but he’s pretty close to Zayn’s. His range makes his voice more talented, cause he has more abilities that Zayn does. I love zayn and nothing can beat his high notes. Although Niall is personally my favourite.
I also don't know but there's just something about louis. His songs aren’t even the type of music i listen. But still i keep listening his music, his edits. Idk I'm obsessed.

Zaddy is da best his voice high notes are like a drug to me, but each of them has an angelic voice, Louis has one of the most unique voice it's so calming, Niall's voice has improved so much since he started solo, his voice was so good back then too, Liam is always perfect especially his falsetto 🔥🔥🔥 Harry's deep voice can wake your deepest emotions

I’m not surprised at all :) I don’t really feel it’s a safe space to comment cuz you’ve said a disclaimer at the beginning and you are a professional. However, I still am in love with Louis' voice. I know he’s had to deal with that difference since the X factor days when he was not good enough as a solo, but good enough for a last minute group, but not good enough to get solos until well into their second album. We’ve seen him deal with second guessing himself and criticism from everyone around him. I just hope he knows I at least am proud of him and he will always be my first choice even above one direction. Not everyone has the same taste, and yeah people have told me I listen to a flop. But Louis' voice, style, music and fight is still what’s most meaningful to me so I won’t stop supporting.

i agree with your order 100%, it's very clear zayn is the best singer imo. however, niall's the one who's levelled up the most. he always had a good voice but back in the 1D days he was kind of good in a fairly generic way, and he didn't really stand out vocally with the others being such strong singers. since he started making his own solo music, though, his voice has become so rich and has a lot more power behind it, he has a lot more confidence, he's really come into his own, and i also think that although louis' music is my favourite, niall's is probably the best. the others are all a bit derivative, and there are very clear influences to their sound - for louis, as you said, it's oasis; harry's albums (fine line in particular) are great but kind of an eclectic jumble of loads of his favourite artists; liam's is pretty generic, radio-friendly pop. niall has the most clearly defined sound, to me. he just sounds like niall. i could pick out one of his songs even if i'd never heard it and just KNOW it was one of his; he's found a niche and a very clearly defined sound for himself and i'm so proud of how much he's levelled up.
and now that i've gone on a huge rant about niall is the point where i reveal my fave is actually louis lmao, i love his voice, it's defo not as technically strong as the others but he was the glue that held 1D together and made them sound as good and unique as they did. unpopular opinion maybe, but while they survived okay without zayn, they wouldn't have lasted five minutes without louis. he was the emotional glue, the real leader of the band (not harry, as the media would have you believe) AND the real undercurrent of their sound throughout. he's taken time during the lockdown to really work hard hard on his voice, as you saw from copy of a copy of a copy, and i'm so excited to see him live whenever live music is allowed again cos i am so damn proud of that man. and that's even without taking into account that he's so genuine and kind and literally no one has a bad word to say about him, he does loads of charity work, he's funny, he's an absolute sweetheart. again, everyone goes on and on about how nice harry is, and he definitely is, but louis is just special. an underappreciated king for sure.
Zayn has the best, most versatile voice, Louis has the most unique voice even though he's probably the weakest but the uniqueness makes him one of my favorites, Niall is the one who's improved the most and really found his "sound" with his both albums, Harry has a powerful voice but sometimes sounds lazy with it in has albums but live he definitely puts more energy behind it and that just leaves Liam. Liam probably makes the most generic sounding music out of the boys but back when they were on x factor he was miles ahead of the other boys but I haven't heard anything new that compliments his voice with the style of music he puts out but he definitely has one of the better voices despite probably being the least unique sounding.
I definitely agree that Zayn has is technically the best singer. I would say Louis the one who improved the most given how he started out as the weakest singer. Niall was the second most improved. Liam started out as the strongest vocalist but was quickly surpassed by Zayn. He was always good, but he never got better than he already was. He just stayed pretty consistent. Technically speaking, he is also a better pure singer than Harry, but Harry's voice is a lot more powerful, emotive, and distinct. He definitely had the most unique voice, because even when the boys would harmonize, his tone stuck out the most, and blended the least with the other members.
Regarding how the leader was, I'd unequivocally say it was Harry, not just because he had the most unique voice, that just draws you in, he was also the most charismatic. Louis was definitely the emotional glue of the band, in some ways paired with Liam. But Harry was the biggest stand-out in the group.

You didn't surprise me with your order but I also wasn't 100% certain, I thought you'd place Harry first from your first reaction in this series even before you heard all their solo stuff. They have all developed as solo artists compared to the 1D days. That's for sure.
I've already said I place Liam and Zayn first or the other way around. For me they're kinda equal to how I experience them. I would place Harry third and Niall would be my fourth. Louis last. All based on how I experience their vocals on a technical level with absolutely no technical singing knowledge. *lol*
But if I'm talking about emotional connection and in terms of who's music I listen to the most then Louis is my top 1 and Niall comes in second but yeah, that's a totally different thing and something that is my personal preference with how I experience peoples tone of voice as well as what type of music they do and how that resonates with me. That has nothing to do with vocal technique and being "spot on".
Either way I think they are all amazing in their individual way and I love all their voices. And I'm super stoked that they all get to do music as solo artists and not just one or two of them which has been my experience with previous boybands.

They shouldn’t be compared!! They are all amazing in what they do!! They all brought something different and that’s what made 1D who they were!! Yes I have a favourite because I like his voice, the way he writes, what he stands for!! This is wrong on many levels and will only cause unnecessary drama and negativity between fandoms that’s already there!!

I think it only depends on whose music do you prefer. I personally prefer Louis and so many people in the comments are sleeping on Louis and Niall but honestly both of them are amazing singers. Louis has a very unique voice. When he's singing he puts all the emotions in his voice. He can sing high notes and his falsettos are good too. His voice provides an edge to one direction. And I'm not sure but I guess Liam once said that Louis's solos are the hardest to sing. So I go with Louis but it can be anyone. It just depends on who do you prefer.
This isn’t about music preferences, she is rating them as vocalists, as good singers, u can like Louis album and music the most as a preference but he isn’t a “better vocalist” which is the entire purpose of this videos

Louis has a unique voice but worst techniques out of them all..
He never uses falsettos or head voice.. and rarely hit those high notes and those too because his voice is naturally high.. he just pushes his larynx to reach higher voice..

Harry is my best in vocals he can do to that falsetto too I think. He has a raspy voice, and the way he growls, omg he's fucking amazing. Now in his music he has some falsetto. He is also my favorite of all five members He was so gorgeous adorable cute and cheeky. He was a very versatile flamboyant and well he's handsome too.

It depends on what videos you use. They all can struggle or not sound as good. Most of these performances are from 5+ years ago.
I have seen other critics rate them in this order too, but I’ve also seen Harry and Liam swap positions. Ultimately Harry’s success is on his star quality. He’s so likeable and has a great present presence.

When it comes to the boys solo albums, I really liked Niall's albums and style the best.
Louis is my bias but but I’d say vocally is goes Zayn, Liam, Harry or Niall, then Louis. I just don’t think Louis has used his vocals to their best potential yet, I feel like he has shown us everything he can do because he has freakin amazing vocals.

If we talking about technique i would say liam or zayn at first, why not zayn? I guess liam has a chance since being a better vocalist is not just about high notes, also whe they perform live, we can see so many times that zayn didn't sing on the right tempo, also we can see sometimes he got problem with breathing, compared to liam he's more has control, he always sing on the right pitch, also the way he did harmonies with other always perfect, and it's hard especially when the melody already high so he need to do higher, also we always know that liam is always dance and do stuffs like that but his vocal always good is insane, the third one i'm gonna say harry, even harry got the third one, why harry is so famous because there's something on him that make peoples love him, that's the point, fourth niall, and last louis, but it doesn't mean Louis has a bad voice, there's no way, his voice such an angel, but if we talk about technique of course he's the last, also if we talking about their music is depend on what kind of music do you like, not about their technique

To me it depends on what you like. I personally love Harry's voice and he is my favourite, so I'd choose him. I really can appreciate Zayn for example, he is really good, but I'm not into his voice that much. I think everyone has their own preferences.

There’s no need to compare them when they’re their own individual artists.
They all shine in their own ways and genres. Every artist has weak points and strength points. They don’t even sing in the same range, or make the same type of music.
Choosing “the best” between them will be you focusing on a strength point one of them has, that the others don’t. But at the same time this person will be lacking something the others have.
Comparing them will only result in unnecessary hate and negativity. All fandoms are protective of their faves, and everyone has a bias depending on whose music they enjoy the most. So every answer is a wrong answer to part of the fandom.

I thought the ranking was about technique, if it was about distinct voices then Louis would be the best one. I think Liam is better than Harry. He was always the more consistent member. Maybe his tone is not as unique as the rest but his support is so good and he's always on tune. His range is getting bigger and better. His range is actually wider than Zayn's because he can go super low as well. Harry's tone is amazing but he's not as consistent and he doesn't use enough dinamics, he belts most of the times. Then, Zayn's vocals are just so good, full of dinamics, riffs, he's so melodic.
For me, the list from weaker to the best of them would be:
Louis, Niall, Harry, Liam and Zayn.
Edit: Having said that Louis' voice will always be my favorite, it's just so unique and his accent and his emotion when singing captivates me. Also I would like to say that I don't like Liam's personality and I love Harry but it's not what we're discussing here. It is what it is.

She's a vocal coach and by comparing voices She's teaching about techniques and different styles of singing. As long as it's subjective what's the issue? Genuinely most people who are singers and artists want to perfect their craft, they can't do that without any feedback and practice. I'm not even a singer and I've learned a lot from this channel. This woman is also a professional so She's qualified.
Harry was always my fave, I think he’s the most versatile. He can break your heart with softness and then he can rile you up when he belts it. But we love them all don’t we?

It's definately Liam. I know people tend to say it's zayn because he can do the highest notes but in my opinion to be called the best singer you need more than high notes. That's why I think liam is the best singer of them all because he has the widest range, he never misses a note and he is the most versatile. And apart from his really low notes, he also can go really high even though he is a baritone and his lower and middle registers are where the excels

True, i would say liam because tbh i really love zayn voice, he has amazing voice but when we saw they singing live especially during 1D time, we saw so many time that zayn didn't sing at the tempo of the songs, sometimes he's also got promblem with breathing, but if we talking about his high note of course he's great, but when i saw liam sing live, he never got problem, he alway sing on pitch, also he never got strain like harry, even that his power not that good as harry and zayn, it's actually explained that he know how to control to do low notes and high note, we also can see him singing harmonies both low or high note

.........zayn IS vocally tha best and he IS my fav. Love his voice. Although all of them are amazing singers his voice just soothes me
And nothing about nialls rock edge??? He has the best grit and rasp in his voice. Just listen to him sing dear patience live at royal albery hall or his cover of with or without you or new York state of mind.

3)Harry(because sometimes he’s forcing his voice too much and that’s why sometimes he had throat problems while being in the band. I don’t know if he does it on purpose or what, but he’s obviously good too and has improved during all of those years)
4)Niall(now he has a way wider range than he used to have in 1D and I enjoy his music so much. Probably he’s my favourite now. He’s the one who has surprised me the most with his solo work)
5)Louis(I loved his album Walls and Don’t Let It Break Your Heart is one of my favourite song so far. Wish he’d work more on his voice because he has a unique tone of voice and if he works on it more, especially with the low notes, I’m sure he’ll be even more confident in singing)

I don’t hear enough people talk about Liam and Niall’s voice my nephew mason Martin who you guys might have seen comment on different videos sings almost exactly like Niall and Louis it’s almost unbelievable his voice is sweet and innocent much like Louis but it’s also Friendly and Mature so he’s basically a hybrid
