    To anyone asking questions who hasn't linked their youtube accounts up to google+ - You need to know that no one can answer you directly. This is why your comments look like they are being ignored - it's impossible to respond (there is no Reply button below your comments).
    @9freelandk- This is the way the Sony Play Memories Mac Application works. You'd need to ask Sony why it only outputs at a lower Mbps.
    @9freelandk- Again only Sony knows if they'll update their Play Memories app to show MPH as well as KPH.
    @andrea masciocchi - I trust you understand the difference between a TimeCode and a Time Stamp. Timecodes do not show on the video footage - they are embedded in a file. This camera only adds Timecodes into files recorded in the PRO Mode and I haven't uploaded any Pro clips yet. The reasons for this are mentioned on my blog.

      Its a real shame that sony dose not offer loop recording for this camera. For my purpose the size, shape, sound quality, video quality, and its other features are just what i need. Unfortunately for sony none of the needed features on this camera do me any good without loop recording.

    • @WindersRanger

      Sony needs to add loop recording to this model.

    Shaun,
    I just watched the entire video you did and this is the best in depth review of the Sony HDR-AS100V online. Your attention to detail was super as well. I purchased this camera about 9 months ago and like you, am still learning all it will do.
    To say the least, I am a Sony fan and have been super pleased with it. Incredible how much processing power and video they pack into such a small package. Like you, I prefer the Sony to the GoPro, especially for the dollar spent.
    Great job Sir.

    So far i'm loving my AS100v. Wasn't happy that I had to do some modifications to the skeleton case/lens in order to mount it to a helmet, but works great after all is said and done. Also want to note that they have iOS and Android apps that do everything the remote does(and are free). Sound quality with a cheap mic is amazing as well.

    I have this camera with accessories, and just thought I'd pass along a couple of tricks. The wrist mount can be made larger by adjusting the loops that go through the holes on each side. It can also be removed from the wrist strap and put on a lanyard using the side loop. The headstrap problem of being loose and sliding was easily fixed by opening the strap hodler (it slides up towards the two small dots after the screws are out) and adding a strip of fuzzy side velcro with sticky on the back. It adds just the right amount of friction to keep the camera from sliding around.

    Excellent review of the AS100V, thank you. I was going to raise some points about the live-view remote, but then you covered the strap length at the end of you review...
    The remote can control up to 5 cameras together (good if you have them slapped all over your car/body/etc). The format of the control protocol is also public from Sony, so in theory you could write your own applications to control this (and other) cameras.
    Finally regarding the overlay - you can do your own, or even have the data embedded as subtitles (rather than within image, ie no re-encoding). See:
    Sony HDR AS30V GPS data overlay
    Good job, I always enjoy your videos,
    Simon.

    I've had my Sony HDR AS100VR for over a year now & I'm still impressed with it.
    I use mine for cycling to/from work, just in case I'm involved in any incidents & I have a few examples of that on my channel already.
    For all this time I've been using 25/50 fps & wasn't aware that I could change that mode, so thanks ever SO much for mentioning that in the video - even though I'm in a PAL country, I prefer 30/60fps mostly because these are the native modes of my editing software.
    I have the Live Remote, but frankly I haven't used it since I got it...
    The camera is used multiple times daily & I have it upside down in 'FLIP' mode, using the Sony helmet mount (that I've modified with some cable ties which works much better).
    Like you, the deciding factor for me was the SteadyShot image stabilization - but even though it gives you a "swimming through jelly", I'd rather swim through jelly than bounce around like a ball-bearing...
    The 'splash resistant' feature is very useful & all I have to do is check that the USB port is down & I can forget about concerns about water damage riding home in the rain.
    We both agree that the Vivid mode is the best mode to shot in, especially in low light!
    One of the videos on my channel - "When SatNav's go 'Rogue'..." - it really brought home how clear our eyesight is, compared to what the camera records. I could see a vehicle quite clearly a few hundred metres away, but the camera only saw the headlights as two dots.
    This has led me to decide to get the Sony FDR-X1000V - I've not got it yet, however I plan to mount both action cam's on my helmet with the AS100V pointing back & the X1000V pointing forward. Two reasons being; a) front/rear filming, and; b) greater image quality on the front facing camera. I thought I saw you have the X1000V, is that right? Is that what you filmed the Square Nixie watch on???
    ...
    Anyway, thanks again Techmoan. I don't believe I've seen this video before I made my purchase, but I'm a frequent viewer to the channel & wanted to give my thoughts on how I use mine.

    • @Techmoan
      @Techmoan  Před 8 lety +1

      I do have the X1000V...but I find it a bit of a missed step. Its bigger than the AS100, it runs hot, the menus are sluggish and there's too many options and settings to page through on the small screen. The battery also only lasts 55mins in 4K mode. See my latest Yi 4K action cam review to see how far the 4K cams have come. If you like the Sony form factor, wait for a new Sony, the X1000V isn't really deserving of your cash.

    • @Anamnesia
      @Anamnesia Před 8 lety +1

      I imagine the X1000V would chew through batteries!
      I see there's new V1.1 system software for the X1000V (27/4/2016). Perhaps that's addressed some of the issues you've experienced?
      And yes, it was your new Yi 4K review that had me looking for the X1000V review on your channel & saw the AS100VR video...
      The Yi 4K looks good, but without image stabilization at 4K there's no point (IMO)... Will consider waiting for a newer Sony... :)
      Thanks for the reply!

    • @Techmoan
      @Techmoan  Před 8 lety +1

      I installed that firmware in April hoping that it would resolve the issues, and make it possible for me to recommend the camera. It just added XAVCs recording in a lower res mode, nothing else changed.
