I wanted to take a moment to say I stumbled on your channel ... and glad I did ... love the production quality ... and your content and desire to share is sincere ... I am looking forward to leaning more ... good luck as you continue with the channel ... really good stuff!! ... Donnie ...
100% agree Forest!!!This kit just begs to be played. It's like having the best cymbals in the best rooms there tp try . It sets the standard- best $99 i've ever spent!
Thanks, Forest for this video. I’ve used this video as a reference a lot during my latest musical project to move beyond logic stock drums and would be really helpful to hear these drums in a song you’re working on!
yep! just throw them up and go. Thats what Taylors goal was. He said he even used these kits in stereo mode on some major releases already. That says a lot.
So glad to have stumbled on to your channel. Have been looking so long for drums like this. I also use Superior drummer 3 and love it but have still been searching for something, particularly in the snare. I am going to definitely try this kit. Subscribed! Thanks
Sounds great , I just can't deal with kontakt . I know I'm missing out but I hate bloatware . Took me hours to remove everything when I refurbished my machine
Couple things: 1. I love your channel. I've learned so much from your content and you deliver it in such an easy to follow way. You for sure have a gift. 2. I'm pretty new to all of this. This software from MixWave is $150, but do I also need to spend the $300for Kontakt 7 to use it? Or will this work (without any restriction) using the free Kontakt Player?
Wait for Mixwave to run a sale for Black Friday! It will work in Kontack Player! no need to spend anymore than $120 on this sometimes can catch a better sale. Join mixwaves email list from their website and wait for a sale!
Forest! This is rad. It also brings up a big question: When it comes down to creating the final draft of a song, are you bringing an acoustic drummer on board? I would say the answer is yes, but I'm really interested in how you work. I cam across your videos last week, and got hooked (while at my desk, at my day job). As a producer, are you the person who calls up the drummer to work with? If so, Can I contact you about that possibility?
Sometimes, not always. really just depends on the song and artists goals. As a producer its your job to oversee pretty much everything to make the production happen, hiring musicians, booking studio time, making sure they are paid. You do everything to deliver a the final mastered wav file to the artist or label. Reach out to me at forest@musiccityplaybook.com
I just saw you entre video and I totally loved it, you answered all my questions, I own the entire ggd and sd3 libraries I mainly played them with my electronic drums, do you really like the mixwaves drum samples better? And if I had to get one to start with . What do u recommend? Thanks 🙏
The problem with Mixwave and GGD is that they all suffer from the "Steven Slate syndrome". Especially GGD, which appear to be the main contender Mixwave is up against. As a fusion drummer recording on a high-end e-kit for ourselves and clients via Superior Drummer 3, Addictive Drums, BFD3, the old Mixosaurus and OWD, NI ARD and a plethora of other libraries, I can of course appreciate GGD/Mixwave, since I happen to have them on one of my SSD:s. But even the so called "raw" versions (I am looking at you, Invasion) have an inherent velocity curve of a clipped "S". Hitting my snare at a velocity of 1%/ppp still triggers a sound equivalent of a compressed mezzoforte at best. Apparently that is not the case with the libraries I have tried from Mixwave (Royster and Pridgen) when used "raw". Still, that is nothing compared to SD3 kits of today, where I actually get the output of ppp when I want it. A few routes to misconception during these 8 minutes was using the old pre-2017 SDX NY II as a comparison. As we know the newer libraries from Toontrack starts at around 100 GB each and only progress from there. The recent Area 33 clocked in at 180 GB. The old libraries are around 15-20 GB, so they are obviously vastly different. It is also very clear when you play them on a nice e-kit that Mixwave works fine on a rainy day if you have nothing else, but SD3 still wins the battle with ease. Nowadays I/we only use the YRC kit in Death SDX for commercial releases. It works for EVERYTHING except jazz/bop, in which case I would go with Decades or Hansa. Royster does not even enter the equation. Truth is, most people don't really know what real drums sound like, and maybe never will. But end results is still what matters, and even though SD3 are not "real drums" (even if they are), they are still my first choice for basically everything. Including progmetal and slowfunk.
Hi, dude! That's right! And you saved me €112. I am just a hobby musician drummer... but I definitely can agree with your points. In fact, I am like addicted to these Toontrack libs. Man, they sound so amazing. I was playing a creepy drum set in creepy rehearsal room. And then I (43) quitted 2015 because family, job, house.... and 2019 my wife proposed to buy an ekit for the kids. And I ordered an MPS-850 and EZDrummer2 and baaaam. That was it , with " For the kids". Amazing sound of drums... a year later I switched to SD3 and evolved a bad EZX/SDX collection syndrome. Then I got, of few month ago, the GGD Benny Greb... and nah.... its a nice kit, but no cymbal chokes and some issues with the hihat. Now, I grabbed the MixWave Tony Royster kit, and again, no cymbal chokes. Damn! I keeped an eye on the Mike Mangini kit also but that's what I meant with you saved me €112. I think, I will leave it alone. ... Do you have a tip for another old classic SDX. I got Area33, DD, FoR, Hansa, Hitmaker, STories, Progressive Foundry and tons of EZX.... :-)
Do you like mix Snare just by Solo it inside the Mixwave mixer, or can one route each of the Drums into separate tracks like one can do with the Slate, Superior, etc.?
I purchased the tony rooster jr download l have a Roland td27 module. When using my pc with the mouse and highlight a drum l get the sound to the PA system but when hit each drum with a stick no sound generated how do I fix this Thanks
Man I dove in bought two kits immediately! Killer. Do you own all of the kits? I picked up Tony and gojira. They have everything 30% off this weekend and I may pick up the other two kits. Do you feel the other kits are worth getting or do you feel it would be a little redundant? Thanks
Thanks for the reply! I went ahead sprung for all of them. Hey, you had mentioned on another video about some of the pop sounding samples you use that sound for the most part mixed. Would you mind telling what that online sample service it was and maybe a few of the sample packs you really like? I truly appreciate it!
The point of this video is how easy you can get great tones. I’m making it obvious Mixwave is a plug n play option. I don’t wanna use the unmixed presets.
I agree with you that Studio One is best for music edits. I strongly disagree that all drum VST are the same. Mixwave is hands down the best out of the box mix ready kits I’ve heard. If you owned most of them you’d immediately tell the difference! Thanks for your comment.

My favourite new channel. Total binge fest going on. No one really covers modern country production this channel is a godsend. Thanks man.
I totally agree! I’m bingeing every video right now haha
Just got paid and this the first thing I’m buying 😂😂 I usually use Get Good drums but this sounds amazing
100% agree Forest!!!This kit just begs to be played. It's like having the best cymbals in the best rooms there tp try . It sets the standard- best $99 i've ever spent!
Im with ya man. Thanks for your comment.

I’m sure glad I stumbled on your site. I live in Brentwood and sure could use somebody like you to come to my studio and get it up the speed.
Dude I've learned a bunch, thanks for showing it to the world

I Love the Raw Dry kits🙌🏾
Oh they Punch & cut through!

It's really impressive! wow! nice review~ thank you~
Awesome tones... excellent presentation !

Thank you for great video ! Great drums ! But I don’t realize how to use it right in multichannel mode of Kontact.

@@forestwhitehead I hear that. The responsibility of a producer is much larger than what most people perceive it to be.
Thanks for that; will do!
can you use the tony royster jr presets mix to layer your own drums from a drum recording with your drums?
Yes you can :)
heloo... how to move sound floor on the right to the left ?

if you have tony royster, thomas pridgen, and gojira.. you are set.. Thats the best of what they have imo. Thanks for watching!

You think these or the Thomas Pridgen drums are better?
I use both the same amount. You’ll be happy with either.
Forest what do you think of ezdrummer?
I dig it! I rarely use it now just becuase I have Superior but I think EZ Drummer is a great option!
Toontrack rules first :)
I have most of all superior SDX kits. I’d choose Mixwave over toontrack everyday that ends in y
Im just wondering why the snare sounds like it's laging or it has some kind of flangy-sound to it? Is it cuz of the editing or?
The sample wasnt loaded all the way so it lags i was impatient sorry!
@@forestwhitehead Ahh okey good to know!
wait for ez drummer 3
You are comparing mix ready drums with less or not processed ones. Unclick the processing in Mixwave and then make another video.
The point of this video is how easy you can get great tones. I’m making it obvious Mixwave is a plug n play option. I don’t wanna use the unmixed presets.
I hunk studio one was better for drum programming. All these drum VSTs seem to be the same

Sounds kind of fake and overly processed when you take the mix out and play the raw/unprocessed
