From the challenges of growing up in the death throes of apartheid, to an unexpected and unwanted calling into a practice she didn’t believe in, Gogo Dineo’s journey has been rich in life lessons. She shares four key learnings from her experience as a Sangoma (African Spiritual Healer) that speak into the challenges presented by loss, change, failure, and the need to find a way to heal and live a life of personal authenticity. Gogo Dineo is a sangoma, a systems coach and facilitator. Her passion is to teach the world about African spiritual healing and its role in the 21st century. She runs an Institute of Spiritual Healing, where she trains shamans, treats patients, teaches at academic institutions, private sector, radio and television. Her philosophy is that people who are connected to their ancestors and their spirituality are like trees that are deeply rooted with an ability to thrive. Her aspiration is to help align mainstream health care to indigenous African healing for the betterment of those who are seeking wellness and health. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
This is amazing. I’ve never ever understood why I have always felt guided by my ancestors.
Telling our African stories we are leading in the right direction....love and light African child...Thokoza Gogo.
You are very good at public speaking. Listening to you is always very inspiring and refreshing. We really need more individuals like yourself who are wise, bold and unapologetic about who they, where they come from and the journey they are on. You are a true inspiration
Can you continue educating everyone Gogo until they know the truth. Thokoza 👏👏👏👏👏
What a refreshing speech, full of wisdom and insights. Much respect Gogo Dineo.
I stumbled on this and I’m a firm believer that nothing is by hazard, everything happens for a reason. Thanks for sharing your lessons. Wisdom, Honesty and Guidance all in this 18 minutes. More Grace! Blessings!
I watched this with a beaming smile!!! I do not know how, but I grew up afraid of izangoma, I would in fact find it hard to drink water or eat food from a sangoma’s hands. That changed when my daughter got her calling(my last born sister is my daughter; she’s just too cute!)! I immediately began to inform and educate myself by reading and watching videos such as these, I did my all to travel with her through her journey and by the time she completed I was ready to sit and listen and it has been such a fulfilling experience! Through her we were able to trace our roots as a family, which was something that was far at the back of our minds but something we never really took practical steps to pursue! She did her training and by the time she was done, we saw the way! My initial reaction when she first told me was shock, disbelief and doubt…but we are often too quick to pass judgement in things we never made time to learn, study or explore! Discovering Gogo Dineo has been a revelation however! She has been a fountain of knowledge for me as someone that’s thirsty for knowledge and keen learn and understand, as we choose to differ our premature judgement until all the facts are before us!!!
Everything my heart wanted to say ....God is real .uncestors are real

Like Sadhguru once said: “When the words one speaks, make you feel uncomfortable/threatened yet at the same time you don’t want to leave their site, then that person is your GURU”

For recognised we need to recognise ourselves and respect ourselves to then we will be able to emerge our traditional profession to recognised and be respected in world provided we respect ourselves and value ourselves too
