Seriously I don't mean to be obnoxious because it happened to me and I'm like this and I'm here because I'm researching Michael Jackson right now and he sang this... But I think more people were like this... Humble, shy, respectful, because they got their butts whooped and they only got prizes when they were really actually good at something not just for trying. I am glad people are nicer now though... But it comes at a little cost of people being arrogant (unwarranted) imo. I think it just changes you somehow. Not at all saying it's good to beat kids!

I was a child of the '50s and a youth of the '60s. I was too young to go to the "sock hop" and other '50s teenager activities of the decade but I watched my older teenage sister and brothers do all of those things and I learned a lot about '50s teen culture from them and from watching some shows on television that featured teen oriented entertainment. For me, as a little boy growing up all through the 1950s, it was the happiest time of my life and I absolutely loved the music! I listened to our big old radio all day, every day, morning to night. I listened to every song, regardless of genre and I liked virtually all of them but especially my favorite, Elvis, or as we kids called him, "Uncle El". He was truly electrifying because white audiences had never seen or heard anyone like him before. Of course he got much of his style and look and music from his favorite Black entertainers. I loved Little Richard just as much as Elvis...maybe even more. Anyway, I would not judge the 1950s by today's social standards. I completely agree the racism was horrible, and I lived in the North where it wasn't nearly as blatant as it still was in the Deep South at that time. I hated racism and refused to participate in it (I'm white.) I grew up in an integrated neighborhood and school so had Black friends who taught me much about their culture. But accepting everyone as they were, as a person, no matter what, was all I could do. And as for the "we all were terrified of the Atomic Bomb" in the 1950s...as it was depicted in the movies, yes, that was true. But in real life I never knew one kid who was scared or worried about Russia dropping the Atomic Bomb on us. We just didn't worry about it although we were very well aware of it due to all of the media propaganda. Maybe we '50s kids were 'fatalists'. We couldn't do anything about The Bomb so we just accepted it and lived our lives. Yes, racism and the threat of nuclear war was a real thing in the '50s in America but most everyone I knew, young and old, lived reasonably happy lives. All things taken in consideration: the good of the 1950s outweighed the bad. That's not to diminish the very bad things, but we dealt with them as best we could. (Those of us who cared.) I loved the '50s. I felt a sense of freedom and was happy. Getting back to the music: I loved this song, Rockin' Robin.
He looks like Chuck Berry's little brother ! I used to hear this on the radio when I was 11 in '58, in Cuba. I'm now 76, but I still love all the music I grew up on . Fun seeing this guy for the first time .
This video just exudes innocence at every level here. The Audience was well behaved & Mr. Day just seemed so natural at performing here. Manners & Morales back then.
In my neighborhood in the 1950s we used to have dance parties on neighbors patios etc. Always had adults to chaperone but it was so cool. Wouldnt trade growing up in the 1950s for anything. Dad worked, my mom was a housewife who took care of me & my 3 brothers. Played in the street or yard with friends until it got dark or dinner time. Good fun music or romantic songs. Nothing foul or crass...that came much later. I thank the Lord for all he had given us. This WORLD is very very different now
So are you male or female? My brother was named Robin in England where it's a male name and when we moved to USA it was a girls name and it annoyed him a lot when people kidded him about it.
I have always loved this song. I took a trip to Costa Rica and there was a parrot on a low branch and I started whistling this song to him and he started whistling along with me and I kept whistling the whole song all the way through and he whistled with me the whole way through! It was amazing and the highlight of my vacation.
I bet that was Charlie. He was a pet bird of mine when I lived there, and he could imitate ANYTHING and anybody. He got loose one day and I could not get him back. Last I heard, he was scaring people by hiding in trees and talking to them in their friend's or family members voices.
When I was younger my grandmother had to take care of a little girl and her name was Robin. I would sing this song to her. My grandmother has long since past and the girl has grown up. I'm laying down right now in mygrandmothers old house.❤❤❤
Love this song. Also it was a time when young men knew how to dance with a partner, really knew how to dance. Teens danced in parents basements, rec rooms, and garages. Girls practiced steps with one another in their bedrooms. Teens wen to dances at schools and parties and places that hosted teens and live local bands. It was an awesome time for music and dancing.
I was born in 86 and one year for Christmas, maybe I was 11, I got a cassette tape of classics. This was on there with Earth Angel and a bunch of hits. I listened to that tape over and over. I know I still have it somewhere. Rockin Robin was my favorite!
Well those show didn't want the young people to move alot that would be considered inappropriate or suggest you movements as of in its day sexual.. lol 😄
It's 1958 - segregation is rampant even in Los Angeles - and Art Laboe not only has a black man on his TV show but also shakes his hand. Laboe was one of the pioneers of Civil Rights.

Ah thank you. Took me on a virtual journey back to my grandmothers house. My twin aunts and I danced in the kitchen to this song.
Sweet Memory Lane.
Those were the days love that time
They were great songs in the 50, 60, my mum you sing a sing along with those songs, and that’s how I learnt the words, great songs, great music.
This song came out before I was born
If you were a teenager in the fifties and sixties, count yourself lucky that you were there in the greatest era of just about everything.
Including racism.
Sure if you were white lol

Uh i dunno if living in an era where nuclear war has a high probability is the greatest 😂 Especially the segregation part.
