Mister Stormy has delved into the session reels from the recording of In The Wake Of Poseidon to give us this incredibly intimate portrait of Greg Lake at the microphone in 1970. You get a real sense of the vocal power at Lake’s disposal when you hear it without any overdubbing or post-productions from the title track’s opening. In the latter stages he double tracks the lines (from ‘scaling knife’) and then the gorgeous harmonies for the coda. Even with all the other tracks stripped away this is a powerful listening experience.

Haunting vocals for haunting lyrics. Lake was the perfect voice for Sinfield's words.

Epitaph and In The Wake Of Poseidon the two tracks that touch deeper in my heart from the 1969-1974 KC golden era.

It's funny that since Robert Fripp re-ignited King Crimson in 2014 and finally revisited the early band's work in concert, that this particular tune has never and/or yet to be performed live. It's always been one of my KC favorites. Lake's powerful voice, Peter Sinfield's nightmarish lyrics and some of the best mellotron of any Crimson piece. Alas I never, ever thought that Fripp would ever revisit the early catalogue, but he did and has made me a very happy man. So I guess there's still hope that this track will be performed. Especially this year being the 50th anniversary of the album In The Wake Of Poseidon. I guess if KC tours again this year, there's another chance for another dream come true. We shall see.

Ngl, without greg lake, king crimson wasn't what it used to be. It makes me sad that it happened but it couldn't be helped

I find it paradoxical that much of ELP's music was instrumental
