King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man - Bass Drums And Vocals
Stormy Mundy Selection (Occasional Series - Acts of Random Archive Rummaging)
This video is an edited extract from the latest Stormy Mundy Selection, as featured on dgmlive.com www.dgmlive.com/tour-dates/2719?sessions=on
Famously contrarian, Michael Giles was never keen on the drum sound achieved at Wessex Studios during the making of King Crimson’s debut album in 1969, complaining that the timbre was rather papery and thin. Yet despite his misgivings, the sound of the drums, and his playing in particular, was hugely influential to established players and beginners alike but is widely regarded as the template for the burgeoning progressive music scene of the day of which Crimson was at the forefront.
Taken from the original 8-track master, Alex Mundy has stripped away everything but the drums and bass guitar, and the processed vocals as a point of orientation, on what is the first take of King Crimson’s signature song. The isolated tracks also highlight Lake’s nimble bass work reminding 21st-century listeners just how formidable the original rhythm section was when they were in full flight. Interesting also to hear Lake shouting/cueing up in the song’s scrabbling coda.
Alex notes, ”I assume they only kept Take 1 as there are no other takes. I'm pretty sure that the bass (along with the drums) are the original first take, and were used in their entirety with no drop-ins added. The improv section is quite amazing.”

This sounds a bit like Cuphead music to me.
I would listen to Greg Lake sing the phone book. And Michael Giles is an exceptional drummer.
Fripp...
I listened to this vinyl album, in 1969, when I was a senior in high school. I took it with me (along with many others), to my freshman dorm (to decorate my wall, in my room), at the University of Pennsylvania, in the fall of 1970. Along the way, I've owned, or listened to, many King Crimson albums since. I particularly enjoyed one of their live concerts, at some beat-up old theater, in Asbury Park, in 1973, with Wetton, Bruford, Fripp, and 2 others, from which another vinyl was made, of their live performance. The song "Exiles" was really good in that concert, and on that recording of it (and, at one point, I thought I heard myself, yelling in the background, in the audience--ha ha ha ha ha). They had so many good songs, and so much good work, over the years. This early use of the mellotron, in this, their first album, was stunning, at the time. And of course, who is singing this song? None other than Greg Lake, himself, of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, a group he was in, that was formed about a year later--and was even more spectacular and well-known than King Crimson. But, I loved King Crimson, just as much. They were good, and an epitomy, of our music, in the late 1960's, and early 1970's...
Robert Fripp one of the most under appreciated guitar players ever. He's a top 5 best guitar player in my opinion
Best!
W.O.W.
so very good
What's crazy is that I just saw a documentary on serial killers like Dahmer and Bundy. Then I listened to this song... Lyrics hit a bit different than usual...
Mr John Davies Cale Godfather OG 35 percent THC delta 9 and I do believe the journey did her well
I thought this song was good, but not that special on first listen to this album. Just finished my relisten and at 2:16 I knew this was one of the greatest songs of all time
I brush my teeth to this song
B(r)ill!! S(t)ick!!
A 4:54 vous recevrez un mail Outlook ! 😄
I have around 1200 albums, the vinyl kind. Over the past few years I have been going through them. I stopped on this album about two weeks ago and play it daily, sometimes more than once. The album jacket is worn, a little tattered, not too bad. The record itself is in excellent shape and sounds great going through my Marantz 2250 receiver, Marantz 6100 turntable with an AT-VM95ML cartridge, and out of my Bose 901s. Discogs has it priced at about $35. I would say it is worth . . . priceless to me.
Mel Collins is a great sax player!
魔術の人はあいつのこと好むてことやわ
You're not ready to enter the court of the crimson king! This album will surely turn you into an evil scientific genius!!
every band from the 70s and 80s has a high dose of king crimson in them.
helo
Utterly boring.
Tony Levin
King Crimson con Adrián Belew es otra cosa, verdad.......PEOPLE?
My song for Amelia my wife and my moonchild
This song was 4 seconds ahead of its time
"There's Just No Place Like Home, I'm On A Roll!"
Beautiful chapman stick
Probably the greatest prog rock song of all time passion pure dead brilliant just listen in a quiet room chill out you will never be the same 😊
MAGISTRAL MELODIA , ESCUCHARLA TE SACA A OTRAS DIMENSIONES , TE HACE OLVIDAR POR UN MOMENTO TU VIVENCIA EN ESTE MUNDO , TE DA ESPERANZA , TE CONSUELA ...
All those volume swells Adrian does using the f-ing volume knob...unreal. i try playing like that using a volume pedal and still can't get that precise.
Effing Epic song!
I was really hoping they would head to the studio to put together an album to include tracks like Meltdown, The Errors, and perhaps some others. That could have opened the door for Adrian to rejoin, which would have made it the ultimate lineup!
Whenever I hear this play, I swear I was doing something else 0.5 seconds ago.
one of my favourite groups
no one sets the rules i agree everyone should have the right to set the rules
On a PLATE? Robert Fripp flat earther confirmed.
This song does a great job at boiling down the reality of geopolitics - just a bunch of dumb assholes with nukes.
TI AMO E TI AMERO ' SEMPRE......
I want this at my funeral !
Killer record:)

Bringing David Cross back into the mix was a complete and utter mistake. This was possibly the finest improv EVER for the power trio of Kc... Cross is so out of tune and struggling. The Vinyl Version back in the day is the only decent mix.
Holy crap, I just started getting into prog rock and I accidentally stumbled across this masterpiece. I literally "WOWED" listening to that ending. One of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard and I've only listened to it like 3 times.
Wonderful 🎶🛸
