I spent a week with the OLED switch and now that I got my first impressions out of the way, I want to tell you if should you buy it, what games look best on the oled switch, and if you should buy it. I had a lot of fun playing with it and now, honestly, I don't think I can go back. Here's my thoughts on the new OLED switch!

You should have had save enabled. Its not like regular save it requires approval from their end but it works. I lost maybe half a day.

Thanks for the info. I recently saw a video on all of the current Gen controller stick switches and hearing details on the Switch/3DS speakers is interesting.
If we knew more about the specifics of the hardware so coveted we may be more hesitant to pay such a premium.
Of course, you can’t do that without voiding the warranty so it’s kind of a risk to get that info out there. Still, thanks for taking apart the joycon so we could look inside.

I bought one last week and sold my old switch for 300.
Loving the OLED the thing is fire! Screen quality and the white color are welcome additions.
So YES it's worth it even if you already have a switch, unless you only play docked than it's debatable.
Oh and Nintendo recently released a peripheral called the adjustable charging stand, really useful for all switch owners who play off tv.

Nice review, enjoyed your honesty. I also realized that for $50 more you can get a PS5 digital or you can save $50 and get a Xbox series S. Not to mention after a memory card, screen protector, and case it’s just not a good value. I would only play handheld mode, so I am considering a Switch lite for $150 less.
My 128gb micro SD card was only $20 and so was the screen protector that came with a traveling case from Nintendo.
If you’re going to only use handheld then TOTALLY GET LITE
A switch lite is tots worth it BUT if you have any desire to play docked you may regret it later. My GF had a switch lite and I had a switch OLED, when she tried it she found she actually really loved playing in dock mode and had to save up for a whole new switch bc she wanted to give her old one to her bro. My sisters on the other hand have lites and they love their switches, they don't care about being docked to the TV and if they ever wanted to play games in docked mode they can borrow my switch. As for the SD card and protector I will say the dock's less likely to scratch the screen than the old dock and and depending where you are you could get a 256 gb sd card for like $25. If you wanted to get a case for the switch you can get them for like $15-$20 and they typically come with screen protectors and thumb grips

@@Hagollow it really depends, if you only ever play by yourself and in handheld mode it's great, or if you have a family which already has 1 switch and there are other ppl who want to play their own switch games then it's great. Like in my fam I have the OLED, my sibs have lites, they never really play stuff docked or care to, if they do want to play something docked though they can borrow my switch most of the time

I went to Walmart last week to pick up some fruit for my wife then wandered my way to the Game Center and stumbled upon the only OLED switch left lol!! It’s amazing I love it 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Got mine yesterday, and the screen is way better. It even gives the illusion of a higher definition. I thought the 2,5 hours battery was enough in my V1, but I reached the 5 hours of gaming in the OLED yesterday 😬. I hope the screen never gives problems. In conclusion, I liked it, now I have to sell my V1.

i bought a 2019 model switch last year and i bought a oled on release day. absolutely do not regret my purchase at all. i love the upgrades and i can't ever go back to my old switch after this. i wouldn't say it's a necessary upgrade if you already have the 2019 switch, though. like jeff said, all my games feel like new games almost. like saints row 3 for example (p dark game) comes to life on the oled screen

There is a cloud save for Animal Crossing if you have it enabled. The tough part is it won't work unless it gets permission from tech support for a restore. I had trouble with the transfer tool. We put it in restore mode and bang they cloud restored it.
Make a video about the screen from the OLED Switch 6 months from now please. Planning to buy a Switch but please address the screen "issue" in a future video.

For me as a switch owner, I don’t find a real need to buying a new switch just for the screen. When I only use it handheld when I’m on the go if needed to keep busy or when I am at work. Other than that I like to play my switch on the TV. If this was the switch pro, I’d probably upgrade with more prominent features. But for now what I have is great enough for what I need.
I think you made a fair point. I really love the Switch but for this price point in 2021 you can’t help but have to compare it with PS5.

Stood in line on release day from almost 2 hours because game stop only had 12 switches left that weren't pre-ordered.
I upgraded from a switch lite so it was pretty worth it for me. Plus now I have 2 acnh islands😊

I thought about getting oled but I didn’t have the biggest budget and I’ve always wanted the acnh switch. So I got that one instead lol.
Like for me the new stuff is nice but I didn’t feel like I needed it as much since I was already upgrading from a lite.
Maybe I’ll get an oled later or wait till a newer version comes out. I’ll be honest the biggest appeal to the oled was the white joycons, but I was planning on just getting a pair and customizing the shell.
I think I personally would wait to see if at some point in the future they once again put out a new switch but with more improvements. Sure these few upgrades are nice but I don’t want to spend money on one that is only a little bit different than what I already have. Since I already have a switch and one that still works well, it would be hard to justify getting this new one.
If someone didn’t already have a switch though, then it might be worth it.
This is exactly my train of thought too, although my current switch is pretty broken. My switch does everything I want it to, and although an upgrade does seem nice, it just isn't enough of an upgrade to justify the $350 purchase. I'd rather save that money for a PS5 (when they become available)

A new switch would have to be something monumentally incredible in the face of Valve's new Steam Deck & at a price that competes with it at 400 bucks. I think the party is over for Nintendo.

Upgraded from a switch lite. I can say that it is definitely worth the upgrade. In all the years of owning my lite I never enjoyed it as much as I do now with the OLED version. Definitely a whole better experience overall.
I’ve owned every switch, the OG, lite, and now OLED. I’ve owned every Nintendo console Nintendo has ever made except for the virtual boy. I can say the OLED is the best build quality and most premium thing they have ever made. It has that PlayStation quality to it. Games are important but people never think about the materials and build quality of the console itself. To me it makes a huge difference.

I had the switch lite since release date and probably played it 10 times got a oled and I have not stopped playing it I enjoy it so much better o feel it was worth the money for me

While the actual panel is made of glass , the shatter protector ontop of it is made of plastic. if you watch jerryrigeverythings durability test, the screen (with the protector , which you should not remove) is at the same durability of the other switch models.

You forgot mention in this video that the kickstand is now full length and made of metal.
I don't think burnin will be an issue. It's used on phone for a long time now and it's not an issue. It can be an issue if it display the same UI element 10 hours a day. Which won't happen on a portable.
I think it doesn't get the animal crossing save transferred automatically because you are limited to have 1 island per switch. So doing that will make it one island per 2 switches in your case.

I purchased the OLED Switch to replace my old beat up launch model & I'm glad i did. Some will scoff & say that OLED just makes colors saturated & they can live without the new screen size. But they'd have to get one in front of them to fully understand the visual difference in clarity. By default, colors pop 110% on everything & Text is just easier to read.
It's almost like an HDR effect-
But specifically, (if I didn't know better) the OLED almost seems to render 3D polygon based games at a higher resolution because everything is so razor sharp on native res. It almost looks as if you can reach out & touch the objects on screen due to the contrast between light and dark which creates a higher sense of depth perception as a result. I can say without hesitation that I'm never going back to the old switch.

LOL - when you consider what you're getting with the Steam Deck for $50:00 extra, this suddenly looks like the biggest cash grab from Nintendo in human history. How they can continue to sell this at that price is pretty mind blowing to me.
Before watching the video, I truly do think it is a rip off unless you really want a better screen for handheld.
If you mostly want to use your switch like a home console and rarely, if ever, want to use it for handheld then this isn't worth the money and you might as well get the original switch.
If you don't plan on gaming while dock and use it for handheld, then sure. It's a pretty screen and could be worth it, HOWEVER, if you're only going to use it as a pure handheld system then get the Switch Lite. It's 200 USD and that 150 USD you'll be saving, you could get a few games, accessories like a case or something.
So unless that really nice screen is an absolute, then yeah, maybe don't get the Oled. But eh, the screen is really pretty.
Got it for 600$ a few weeks ago and i believe its worth 600$ cause better screen quality and 2x bigger also glass screen not plastic.
Never going to upgrade. Switch Lite is perfect for my needs. Higher PPI is also a big bonus for me. The jaggies/pixels on the bigger OLED switch would annoy me

I have both the Switch OLED & the Switch Lite (yellow) & i can say without hesitation that the OLED screen puts the Switch Lite to shame. It makes all of my games look brand new. Honestly I can't stop looking at it. Everytime I put it down, I'm picking it right back up. lol & Ignore the PPI stuff- my Saints Row 3 & 4 are so razor sharp that the graphics almost literally jump off the screen.

I just updated my switch lite to the animal crossing switch and I’m content. The OLED does look good.

the notches in the mainboard for the stand hinges make it impossible to use it on an old switch

It should be 1080p in handheld. Other than that it is a good fun device.
It's stupid it has hulu but not Netflix.... other than that I bought 4 of these things. First time switch user glad I waited for the oled. The kickstand alone is worth more than any tablet or tablet holder stand ever created

The price tag is why I bought one refurbished. I don't mind a secondhand console and I don't feel like paying $50 extra for a bigger, better screen and more internal storage.
Buying refurbished is underrated. Saved out on soooo much money just by buying refurbished. 99% of the time they look identical to a brand new product

Handheld looks so much better than playing it docked on any 4k tv. I despitse playing it on my 4k tv, even with the mClassic mosaic gimmic. Now, OC-ing it on handheld can give you a stable 720 on the switch screen, and cant beat that.

I've seen videos where a person can go into setup and rather than allowing "automatic" can force it into 1080P mode, just like my current WiiU.
Does that not actually work? Others say that it does play at 1080P. I ONLY play Mario Kart 8 (currently on the WiiU) and it's in 1080p.... at least, it looks really good on our Sony 4K.

I feel that since you should get a screen protector for your Switch, a glass screen is actually a downgrade. Sure, plastic is more susceptible to scratches... but it's more protected against shattering... and if you have a hard screen protector, then you'd have the benefits of both....
That raises an interesting question of how easy it would be to replace a cracked glass screen on the OLED version.
If Nintendo was smart and thought this through, perhaps the glass part just sit atop the OLED display itself rather than being fused to it. If fused, that would make the replacement of a cracked glass a lot harder.
Much like on some smart phones.
I just did some research on that and it looks like there aren't any good sites talking about replacing only the glass portion of the OLED screen. Some have new complete OLED screens to replace a cracked screen, but the price is 1/2 of a new console.
So it does look like it might be a good idea to get a screen protector even for the OLED model.
The Switch is for Nintendo incredible in house games only for me. No reason trying to play anything else. It will either be overpriced or run bad. I was going to get a OLED but got a Switch Lite instead. Love their games but when Nintendo decides to make big-screen TV worthy games with real hardware then I'll spend over $200 for a Nintendo console. Nice vid!
