  • 🚩Steal my strategy for painting beautiful petals with watercolor 🌹
🌟 Pro tip: Before jumping into the painting process, plan the colors you'll be using. I like having a "base" color and bringing in one or two other colors to lighten or darken it for lighter areas and shadow areas. Developing a range of values (lights, midtones, darks) is key for realistic results.
    👉 1. Layer 1 (Wet-on-Wet)
Pre-wet entire petal area with clean water. Start developing values/tones, making sure to plan and protect highlight areas. Leave paper shining through unpainted in these areas.
Avoid applying paint directly into these areas and, if too much paint seeps into them, lift off paint with clean brush.
    Allow to dry.
    👉 2. Layer 2 (Wet-on-Dry A)
Petal by petal, push contrast in shadow areas by layering paint. Soften outermost edges with a clean and slightly damp brush to soften transitions into lighter areas. Leave inner edges sharp.
While paint is still wet, intensify and darken innermost shadow section with darker color.
    👉 3. Layer 3 (Wet-on-Dry B)
Use a darker color mixture to push contrast even more, only in petals that show very dark areas in your reference.
Soften outer edge with a clean and slightly damp brush to soften transitions into lighter values.
