One suspect dead, four officers injured in Charlotte shooting | Multiple police officers shot

  • (WCNC) Residents are being allowed to leave their homes in an east Charlotte neighborhood after a shooting left one suspect dead and four law enforcement officers injured Monday.
    Since 1 p.m., residents living near Galway Drive have been sheltering in place as police and at least one suspect exchanged gunfire.
    Hours later, police confirmed at least one shooting suspect was dead. Four law enforcement officers, who were serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, were injured. Among the injured, are a U.S. deputy marshal and three local police officers, NBC News reports. It was not immediately known which local law enforcement agencies the officers represented. The officers were rushed to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. The extent of their injuries was also not immediately known.
    The officers were met with "active gunfire" when they arrived at the home, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed.
    Residents living near Galway Drive, which is located near Julian Underwood Park, were told to stay inside their homes until police were able to make the neighborhood safe around 5 p.m. The shooting occurred at a home not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road.
