My mother had a legitimate handicapped placard.
I took her to her doctor's appointments on a regular basis.
I would park in the handicapped slots, het her into the office,
then I would go and move the car to a regular spot.
I was told on so many occasions I did not need to move,
however, I moved because someone who really needed it
could come alone, and I wanted the space available to whomever
since I could walk with no issues.

As an ADA community monitor I encounter this crap all of the time. What gets me the most is that people feel so entitled to park where ever they want. I am in the process right now of filing charges of verbal assault by an HP parking abuser.

Ticketing these cars is not enough - that's only imposes a legal penalty, but does nothing to provide relief to the injured parties (the disabled people who now can't get into their legally parked cars conveniently). Cars parked illegally in handicapped spots should be towed ASAP and held by some towing/impound company.

Try living in the UK, they do NOTHING about it. My daughter has Cerebral Palsy and is wheelchair bound. I've complained to various establishments, Tesco, Retail Parks, Multi-Storey Car Parks etc... about vehicles parked in the Disabled Bays with no Blue Disabled Badge and each time they just say, "Sorry there is nothing we can do" and one place even admitted they don't even check the cars because they can't do anything about it. It's basically left to people's own moral judgement whether or not to park there. It's utterly ridiculous.

Here in Oz they can enjoy the benefits of a quick lesson in finance. The fine isn't as costly as it should be, but it's a start.
Alternatively, a large metal hook (same as towies use) & a drag chain, hooked to something larger than their POS, usually stops them wanting to do it again. 🤣🤣

Nearly every time I visit my nearby Walmart, I get a kick out of the incorrect parking I observe in the disabled parking area near the front door. The vehicles I am talking about do display valid disabled placards hanging from their rear view mirrors. However, they are not parked in designated disabled parking spots. Instead they are parked in adjacent no parking areas that are identified by yellow, diagonal lines painted on the pavement. To most normal people such diagonal lines are clear indications of no parking areas. But not to these entitled folks.
In my state, the disabled placards often include the symbol of a wheelchair. When observing this inappropriate parking in areas designated as "no parking", I often visualize the placards for these folks having a symbol of a human head with a diagonal slash through it. This would indicate that while they may have a physical disability, they may also be mentally disabled.

Hang up a placard and walk around Walmart for two hours. You couldn’t walk 10 more feet with a non-handicap but you have to be that first one in space find him $500 to their car and take their drivers license away for a year maybe then you’ll learn not to park in the handicap because after all, they will have to walk into court.

The man in the wheel chair talking by hi van that is parked in a leagle handicap parking space. Notice the handicap sign on the pole in front of the van that's what makes it leagle! Just painted handicap symbol on the ground without the sign on the post is NOT a leagle handicap parking space, so anyone can park there..Federal law. I'm a disabled vet and I do see this miss use of leagle handicap parking space almost every time I visit a store.

A outrageous fine and a tow might be more of a deterrent. Also if it's a repeat offender, they lose their license for a month.

  • @janetbrowning9089

Yeah, I'd definitely increase the fine to about $400 & mandatory tow...if it hurts their wallets & inconveniences them as well, that might stop most of them!!

The violation is specified by law, not by contract, so all enforcement from tickets to towing be specified by law, not contract. So if police call for a tow truck, any contract by the business should be immediately superseded.

It must be a MB driver thing. One time I parked my car at the airport and a hardtop MB parked in such space. At least the airport did make the disabled parking space wide so that I can get out after parking at the spot beside it. After my weeklong trip, it was still there, but airport parking security never ticketed it.

I can give two reasons right off the top of my head:
      1) Rehab and strength training for someone who is disabled, and
      2) Disabled parent/relative playing "taxi" for kids who have class or training there.
      Bonus:
      3) It's the law. So many disabled stalls per so much business square footage or occupancy limits.

I would not park my Mercedes close to a handicapped spot. I think the right-hand car would not be careful opening the door.

Hiking the fine won't fix it. It's not a moving violation and if your wealthy a hundred or even $400 may be pocket change. Especially considering you may only get ticketed every one in 100 times you steal a spot. Being inconvenienced will stop people, IE automatic mandatory towing, you get caught, you get towed. Even if they come back and offer to move it, no. It gets towed, no recourse at all. The point being if they were trying to save a minute by sealing the spot, well now they can pay back in hours of inconvenience getting their car back from impound and trying to get a ride home and/or getting around for a few days without their car.

That is bad, I think the car should be towed away ,with the tow truck cost £150, parking the car in a pound costs £75 a day and a big fine I would say £500 fine. so £725 should cover it I don't know how much in CAN $ or US $ or the equivalent , This sort of thing happens here. I have a son with a blue badge ( disabled badge ) I drive him around ,my son has spina bifida and uses a wheel chair and when he's not with me the badge stay's in the glove box and I park in regular parking space, thank's for this video Take care.
