Saruman's DEMISE* Uruk-Hai fail at Helms Deep/ Fall of Isengard- Lord of the Rings

  • Following my first LOTR vid, this edited version is of the relentless Uruk-Hai breaching and trying to overtake Helms Deep. Aragorn rises with Theoden; Gandalf shows up with needed warriors for victory.
Saruman and his orc Army are then ambushed at Isengard by the vengeful Ents, ultimately leading to their doom.
*the scene of Saruman giving order to burn down Fangorn forest is out of order to link Treebeard’s reaction and the revenge of the Ents.

"You staff is broken" scene may refer to Gandalf coming back from Valinor as a more powerful version of himself. As a reward of how he lived in Middle-earth the first time around he was granted even more authority by Manwë, I believe. The other Istari didn't succeed as well in his appointed task as he did - Saruman fell and the other three (Radagast, Alatar and Pallado) were distracted by their own interests. But Gandalf stayed focused the whole time.

Saruman's power had waned because he had strayed from the mission he was given by the Valar. Manwe explicitly warned the Istari that would happen. This check on the Istari's power was a consequence of lessons learned with other Maiar in Middle-Earth (Sauron, the Balrogs, etc).
So what you're seeing in this scene is that reality demonstrated -- Gandalf as the new White, fully committed to his mission, is at peak possible power for an Istari, and that he can destroy Sauruman's staff with a simple command is testament to the extent Saruman has diminished as a consequence of his corruption by Sauron.

    • @CognizantCheddar

@@KB-pk8cn The Istari were sent to Middle-Earth with the mission to _guide_ the people of Middle-Earth against Sauron, and explicilty _not_ to "match Sauron's power with power" and confront and defeat him themselves.
Also comical to suggest that flipping _Manwe_ is at all concerned with "street cred."
Olorin (Gandalf) was one of the Istari picked by Manwe himself. But he couldn't make Olorin the leader of the Istari because Olorin was reluctant to go in the first place. It was only after Olorin found his courage as the Grey Istari (via the deep love he had developed for the people of Middle-Earth) that he was finally ready to be made the White, and fully committed to his mission like no other Istari before him.
Ultimately, Saruman and Radagast were poor selections, but it was well established that even the best of the Maiar could be corrupted. That's exactly why the Istari were sent with checks on their power.

Saruman and Grima's deaths, although misplaced in the film (in the books, it takes place in the Shire to end its occupation by Saruman's last forces, not at the top of Orthanc Tower in Isengard), did happen exactly as depicted: Grima stabbed Saruman in a moment of rage (as it was the only way for him to free himself from his powers), but was immediately shot dead by Hobbit bowmen in retaliation.

I think saruman may have been banished to the void or his soul got shattered and destroyed. Not sure about his ring. Since its made by himself and not sauron I'm not sure if it makes him a wraith of not. Just bacuse he made a ring does not mean he can create powerful rings like sauron did. I mean galadrial is beautiful but scary in case of power even without the ring, she is more than 9000 years old in the books . The main power of Saruman was he is extremely cunning, but, the main weakness of Saruman was his envy towards gandalf and how he underestimated others including gandalf. Imagine showing up expecting die to relieve a siege. For a king whose actions recently weren't popular. Then seeing him leading a glorious last charge to Valhalla. To the king indeed.

If you read historical accounts of Cavalary flanks, or charges horsea and men did do this. A bit exaggerated but yes. It was meant to break enemies morale and break their lines. Especially shock cavalry. Alexander and Hannibal did these the best.

I mean yes horses are pretty impressive, and historically did charge into lines of troops even pike blocks despite what your modern riders will tell you. But... they kind of died in the process. Charging into a row of spears with nought but your bare chest tends to kill you.

not quite though Saruman was a tad too arrogant for his own good. He knew the ents were very slow to react but even he never counted on two little hobbits stirring up a hornet's nest or well...an army of super powerful trees hungry for revenge for the defiling of their home
