I love that one middle-management orc who kept arguing with Saruman about realistic factory output.
It's impressive how the orcs are so advanced they can build sophisticated machinery and even a big dam.
@@CP-jk3tc well....they once were elves. I guess some knowledge just stayed with them.
@@CP-jk3tc Sauruman was directing it all. He was once a Maia that served under Aule same as Sauron. Aule was the smith of the Valar and essentially the God of Technology. They learned everything they knew from him and them some from Melkor.

@@CP-jk3tc In the Hobbit book, the orcs were described as talented (weapon)smiths and constructors. Eventhough their goods and architecture may not look nice, they do the job pretty well.

He was a little rude to his employees tho D: but at least he made jobs. Saruman for next PRESIDENT WOOO :D Actually on a side note, what do they feed all of those orcs? ._.

I'm pretty sure that question (which is a good one by the way) is answered in the books, even though I don't remember about it, it's been a while.
It's known about their grog, that some kind of "beer" they would make, but when it comes to feeding, i think they were really pragmatic and ate voraciously, wherever they were and whatever it may be (meat from hunt, maybe fish) and I would guess some sort of nasty soup, made from vegetables/livestock that minor villages/cities from the east would pay in tribute to Sauron, besides the pillaging.
For the Uruk from Saruman, I would say the same.
Now, for which one had the better grog,.. well, that's a debate for another day! xD
Haha thank you, it makes sense now :3
One Uruk-hai: "We ain't eaten nothing but maggoty bread for 3 STINKING days!"
Make Isengard great again XD
If you look very carefully in the background of this scene, you can not see Gondor when the Westfold fell.

Or even between the lines, nor pixels.
Where was anyone
@Dreaming Away where was gondor when you replied to his comment?
I read your comment too fast and actually thought Minis Tirith was in the backround somewhere
The one thing I kinda admire about Saruman is that when he was confronted with issues by his workers, he didn't just say "get it done", he actually told them how.
Saruman though was quite stern and no doubt didn't tolerate too much excuses or failure though like any boss
@zhuangsaur227 That's what a good boss or leader should be, doesn't take excuses but will explain or instruct how to get it done if the subordinates don't understand.
Not ro mention Saruman wasn't going by rhe FIND SOLUTION WAY method without giving amy hints...
Saruman is a leftist, which is just another confirmation of the bad right-wing implications behind LotR. He supports the working class, suppressed ethnicities and races, styles himself Saruman the Many-Colored (rainbow...he mad Gandalf rejected him, so he literally fell for Sauron, now you also know what the implied relationship between him and Grima is). He pursued knowledge (which is of the Devil), while Gandalf pursued fate (=predestination, the will of the creator).
Atleast Tolkien was aware that he created a monster. The redemption lies in the meta construct of the story. The Lord of the Rings is a story about destroying it, and so you must do!
funny how an evil wizard is better than 90% of middle-managers

"The old world will burn in the fires of Industry. The forests will fall."
Saruman wasn't wrong about that.
EquestriaKnight234 Well, Tolkien did use Isengard originally as a metaphor for the industrial revolution ;)
it happens today anyway
EquestriaKnight234 it's sad but treu -Mettalica-
I didn't think he wrote in metaphors since he didn't like that form of writing if you read some of his letters. Though he said that magic and machines/industries in his eyes was the same thing, ways to control the world and try to use force upon nature to create power. In Tolkiens world everything that is about power (except the powers of the Valar) is a negative force.
POWER
I don't think how it can be understated just how blessed we were to have Christopher Lee involved in these films. The magical power in the delivery of his lines, the passion he and all others involved had for the project, and his personal connections to the material itself made him beyond the perfect choice for Saruman.
Christopher Lee, from what I heard, was the only one of the whole LOTR cast who had met JRR Tolkien, and had been given permission by him to play Gandalf if the books were ever made into a movie
I wish Morgan freeman was saruman..you know for diversity purposes..😆 🤣

Saruman was an expert in logistics and supply. The fact he managed to kit out a massive army like that in a few days is testament to his logistical and business savvy
Part of it may have been his realization that the longer he waited, the more likely Sauron would suspect he was double-crossing him. In that he was right, as Sauron fairly quickly found out through agents and circumstances that his vassal was not as subservient as he made it out to be. The fact that at the Black Gate it’s revealed that if Sauron got what he wanted, the Mouth of Sauron would be installed as an overlord instead of Saruman says a lot.
@@WorldWar2freak94 Well said. It's easy to overlook the history of Sauron and only focus on his presence in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. But he has a massive background spanning thousands of years prior, as shown in the Silmarillion. He was Morgoth's right-hand as a werewolf for a time, before he got his ass kicked by Huan (good dog!).
Then he was bound and imprisoned by the Numenoreans, but managed to sweet-talk his way into an advisory position to the king. He was directly responsible for the downfall of the strongest presence of Man in Middle-Earth during the second age.
Obviously, he would have suspected Saruman's loyalty. Even though Saruman is a Maiar, same as Gandalf, the balrogs, and Sauron himself (albeit he was a 'gifted' Maiar). Knowing his own capabilities would have given him insight to his contemporaries.
It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t have to pay your workers and can harvest them out of the mud.

MiyuChan You my friend are right.
Closest we got is Ian McKellen and even then it ain't enough
Unlike most Sauron or his generals, Saruman seems to take great pride in the orcs and even treats them better than most of their masters. The Uruks being his most prized creations behaved like an actual professional army rather a horde. I also seemed to notice that despite being a Wizard, Saruman also possessed a sense of warrior pride, judging from how the Uruks bear the white hand, which is very tribalistic in nature and even seemed to despise civility itself. His recruitment from the wild men from Dunland also seems to showcase this.
Indeed. He's a man of the people, not afraid to get down and dirty with issues on the ground.
The huge part of the success of these films was the music. It's astounding how suitable it is for Tolkien's world.
shore´s soundtrack is phenomenal, but is there any aspect of these movies that isn´t perfect? 20 years later and i´m still amazed
Every detail compliments another. Nothing stands alone, that’s what made these films so good.
Tolkien's opinions on industry are made particularly apparent in this segment, both in the book and in the film adaption.
LordBloodpool yea he did mention he missed the green and quiet farms in Birmingham or Edinburgh i think ? before it industrialized.
@@zhengyangwang214 Birmingham he lived by Birmingham, then moved near Oxford.
And to a great extent he's right. Industry is inconsiderate of the sources of it's fuels and materials, it exhausts all resources with no care for life. When Industry begins to supplant nature, that is when it must be stopped.
The setting we refer to as medieval fantasy with swords and knights on horses and castles and a genetically diverse bestiary, is the result of a world before using fire to do mechanical work and before artificial electrical current flow...quite literally, those machines are phrygian killing a fairytale. I wish the movie went more into the fact that Saruman actually wanted the ring for himself and had no plans of following Sauron.
Sauron: "Of course we shall rule Middle Earth together. Of course."
* forges The One Dagger to Backstab Them All *
I feel like it was implied pretty heavily throughout the series. Like Saruman describes the ring as an object of great importance to him. And really, Saruman just created a vastly superior fighting force to Sauron's orcs. Smaller yes, but better equipped, better trained, better disciplined, and just superior on a purely biological level. I can't see him sitting there with his army of Uruks becoming Sauron's crony.
He did had that toughts.
In the book Saurmans forces are laughable compared to Mordos might. So if you have that knowledge before you watch the movies it's not that obvious. Sauron is aware of Saurmans own goals before Frodo leaves the Shire, but he just keeps Saurman doing his dirty work in Rohan because Saruman is never a threat to him. You can read about it in Unfinished Tales. Though I think Sauron gets a bit nervous after Pippin looks in the palantir, since he sends a Nazgul to Isengard to see if Pippin is the hobbit that has the ring. (Sauron thought Saruman was using the palantir as a form of torment for the hobbit, forcing him to look in to it.)
The strenght is in numbers. So what that Hitler (Saruman) had such amazing tanks and highly trained ss-storm troopers (Uruk-hai), that Stalin (Sauron) had just so many tanks and troops (trolls and orcs) that he could just eat them by sheer numbers.

The wild men weren't simply savages. They were persecuted, hunted and hated.
Rohan and Gondor did them wrong.
Luckily, after the war, Rohan and it's people understood that. They didn't hunt them down or try to exterminate them, and in the fourth age, the hillmen made peace with rohan and gondor both.

It's an interesting idea, that the likes of Saruman and Sauron -- purely malevolent forces -- stir up support from those who have been genuinely wronged and may even be rightfully bitter at the established order of men. But in spite of their justifiable grievances, they have fallen in with hideous company that thrives off of their worst impulses.
@@briang.2218that’s the basis for most of the armies of the Dark Lord. They were either wronged in the past or were influenced by Sauron by their own greed. Since the Orcs were corrupted Elves, (and some have Men in their bloodlines as well, I believe) the canon explanation for Orc reproduction has them reproduce naturally through sex, but I rather prefer this depiction because it's so appropriately inorganic and perverse a birth for these evil creatures.
i swear there was not a better person for Sarumans role than Christopher Lee
Agreed, but if he's ever cast in the Amazon series they should give Frank Langella the role. Not the same guy but he's got the transcendent, sinister badass persona locked in.
@@Fan_Made_Videos He also played Dracula as did Christopher Lee.
I know he wanted to play Gandalf, but hot damn is Christopher Lee so spot on as Saruman

if there were an actor for the mad king in game of thrones, it would be christopher lee.

Christopher Lee is cinema's top 10 greatest villain actors...
How about Tywin Lannister?
There already is an actor for the mad king
This is such a good scene. Especially the last line. Such a good introduction of Rohan's situation and how Saruman plans to attack it. The Christopher Lee narration over the the village being pillaged and then throwing in the emotional investment with the two kids. It's these scenes that are examples of why this trilogy is such a good adaption of the books.
Amen to that
I’m getting goosebumps, just hearing my name mentioned by Saruman!!
1:30 always liked that neat little bit of direction; one orc has to judge the others that are freshly spawned, make sure they're big and strong enough
What an actor, what a voice, what a narration. C.Lee is an acting legend

Possibly one of the most iconic evil wizards (aside from Voldemort, Morgoth, and Sauron himself) in all of film and literature. Though Sauron and Morgoth are technically more powerful sorcerers in Tolkien's Legendarium Saruman (with his black staff and glowing Palantir) summated the popular image of the Evil Sorcerer in early High Fantasy.
Voldemort is really overrated and poorly portrayed in the films apart from the first two HP films
Did you just call Morgoth an evil Wizzard? Lmfao

It gives me goosebumps, that in one movie youve got this scene where this girl is crying because she might never see her Mum again, and than you have a totally badass scene, like the opening of the movie with epic mountains and with Gandalf fighting the Balrog.
They are the ones who make it to edoras because I feel the father is a rider (off with Eomer) and that is one of his best horses. The two children are light and the horse magnificent (too large for the boy to safely ride usually) so it makes the journey while the rest are overrun.
If you think about it Saruman is a genius. Built an industry from nothing, came up with more accurate crossbows, built an army of orc mutants on steroids, gave them broader shields that were actually useful in battle, he designed a f*cking bomb.
but then he left Isengard unguarded and seemingly never questioned why his orc scouts never returned with the halfligs and the One Ring
True.
But I think it would've been kind of interesting if Saruman only used the orcs and all to make an army of Uruk-hai and then fight against Mordor. Because an army of 10-12,000 is nothing to sniff at.
But that's just a fan theory. But it is kind of awesome that he was able to do all that in so short of time.
1:51 currently me when I see an entire forest in Minecraft
Me too BURN IT BURN IT TO THE GROUND lol 🔥🔥
1:57 YESZZZ shit gets me everytime..
-We do not have enough fuel to feed the fires!
-Do you see that forest right next to our doorstep?
-The one where it's said Ents and Huorns live?
-Yes, that one. Burn it!
-...Are you sure, my Lord?
-BURN. IT.
-...Alright, but if this goes sideways it's not on me.
*”We have only to remove those who oppose us...”*
Hint Hint
I found this scene very sad.
Not just because the Rohan villages were being burnt but also because the Dunlandings, who have legitimate grievances due to the way they have been treated, were being manipulated into performing the burning.
This clip shows some of the most horrific atrocities in war: the attacking of uninvolved peasants and murder
Invading a country and killing the natives because they are less technologically advanced than you are...pretty much the Northern Europeans had a complete monopoly on that service industry and it stayed on the tops of the record charts for a long time...and they are wondering why the races they picked on are acting brutal and savage...guess where they picked up that behavior from? Native Americans weren't the first to scalp their enemies...it's a learned behavior...
@@brentfisher902 Oh so only Northern Europeans did that? You are kind anti-white. The entirety of history blames EVERY SINGLE RACE for this kind of behaviour. Indoctrinated piece of garbage.
@@brentfisher902 Wow you are stupid lol. The tribes that practiced scalping did not learn it from Europeans. Scalping was and still is seen as incredibly barbaric by the vast, vast majority of Europeans - Washington himself witnessed scalping when cooperating with some Natives while he was a young up and coming officer for the British Empire, and had nothing nice to say about it.
Why do you assume that Natives are so damn stupid that they can only learn things from Europeans and can't have any semblance of their own culture?

Saruman: the forest of Fangorn lies on our doorstep. Burn it!
Orc: Yessss
Next day...
Orc: I did it!
Saruman: did what?
Orc: I burned the entire forest down!
Saruman: Wait, you just burned it down? You didn't get any wood?
Orc: You said 'burn it'.
Saruman: I MEANT FOR FUEL!
Orc: oh...
Saruman: you're fired
edit: (Thanks everyone for liking my dumb joke 😁)
Saruman: Shoots fireball from his staff at the orc.
Count Ravid Orcs: looks like meats back in the menu boys
To be fair, if he did burn down the entire forest they wouldn't have any Ents to worry about.
hahahaha
I can imagine that actually happened, though with Saruman stopping them from literally burning it down without turning it into fuel; Something like this.
Orc: *Get the torches ready men; Lord Saruman said to burn the-*
Saruman: _That is NOT what I meant you fool; "burn it" as in turn it into fuel for the fires, NOT just getting rid of it!._
Orc: *Oh, my bad; Nevermind what I said earlier men, get the axes instead, we're going to chop down this forest until I say we're done!*
Saruman: _That's better, do not misinterpret my commands again, or else you're food for our wolves. (What would they do without me?)_
Orc: *Yes my lord, I understand;. . WHY ARE YOU ALL JUST STANDING AROUND, GET THE AXES AND START CHOPPING DOWN THE TREES!!!!*
Saruman was so evil. My favorite character. Christoper Lee did such an AMAZING job playing him.
sir christopher lee *
Christopher Lee was a big reason why they gave Saruman a bigger role in the movies. They also wanted him to be a stand-in for Sauron.
@@Interestingenough4 Sauron is never shown on screen nor in the book, unless you count a massive demonic shadow or black hand. Sauron is evil itself, a great demonic force. Saruman gives flesh to the machinations of Sauron's power and evil.
0:45-0:55 the transition between Mordors theme and Isengard theme is super epic. Howard Shore is an absolute masterclass

Montage Matador That's an expression now? Yeah right, lol. No it isn't.
I love the way that orc says "yes", it sounds so evil when he says it haha, especially with his face expressions.
Saruman's monologue at the beginning shows how he's being led astray by his own megalomania and delusionally thinking he and Sauron are equals who will rule together. He ignored Gandalf's warning in Fellowship of the Ring that Sauron doesn't share power.
You can tell Christopher Lee was having so much fun in that role
I would have liked to have seen more of the wild men in LOTR the two towers. they seem to have had some bitter history with the horsemen of Rohan.
They did, the Rohirrim came from a nomadic tribe which migrated to what is now Rohan after making a deal with gondor or something I beleive.
bevan rogan white From Thain's Book:
"Brego's second son Aldor became King. He was known as Aldor the Old, and he had the longest reign of any King of Rohan - 75 years from 2570 to 2645. Aldor drove out the last of the Dunlendings, who came to hate the Rohirrim. During Aldor's reign, the population of Rohan increased and the Rohirrim settled in the valleys of the White Mountains including Harrowdale. Aldor's son Frea was old when he became King and he ruled only 14 years until 2659. Frea was followed by his son Freawine, who in turn was succeeded by his son Goldwine. Rohan was peaceful and prosperous during this time. Deor, son of Goldwine, became king in 2699. During his reign, the Dunlendings began to raid the Westfold to steal horses. Many came across the River Isen, but it soon became apparent some Dunlendings had made settlements in the northern part of the Westfold near Fangorn and Isengard. In 2710, Deor led a force to the northern Westfold and defeated an army of Dunlendings. Deor proceeded to Isengard and found that it was occupied by Dunlendings. The stronghold belonged to Gondor, but over time the Gondorian chieftains who guarded it had died out and had been succeeded by chieftains of mixed blood who were friendly to the Dunlendings. The few remaining guards had been killed, and the Dunlendings occupied the Ring of Isengard. Deor sent to Gondor for aid, but no help could be spared. The Rohirrim did not have the resources to retake Isengard, so Deor set up a guard of Riders to keep watch in the northern Westfold. Deor was succeeded by his son Gram in 2718.Helm, son of Gram, became King of Rohan in 2741. Rohan was invaded by the Dunlendings during his reign. A Man of Rohan named Freca, who had Dunlendish blood, began to expand his own domain on the border between Rohan and Dunland in defiance of the King's rule. At a council meeting in 2754, Freca sought a marriage between his son Wulf and King Helm's daughter. Helm refused, and when Freca became enraged and insulted the King, Helm slew him with one blow from his mighty fist. Thus he became known as Helm Hammerhand.Freca's son Wulf led the Dunlendings to invade Rohan four years later in 2758. The Dunlendings were aided by the Corsairs, who had launched a massive assault against Gondor at the same time. Rohan was also invaded by enemies from the East. The Dunlendings overran Rohan and captured Edoras. Helm's son Haleth died defending the doors of Meduseld, and Wulf sat on the throne in the Golden Hall. Helm was driven back from the Crossings of the Isen to the stronghold in the Deeping-coomb that became known as Helm's Deep. Many other Rohirrim took refuge there and in other valleys of the White Mountains, including Harrowdale where Helm's nephew Frealaf defended the stronghold of Dunharrow. The Long Winter began in November of 2758 and lasted five months until March of 2759. The Rohirrim were starving and desperate, besieged in their strongholds. Helm's son Hama died on a sortie from Helm's Deep, and Helm himself froze to death on Helm's Dike. When spring came, Frealaf led a force from Dunharrow and reclaimed Edoras. Frealaf slew Wulf and the Rohirrim drove the Dunlendings out of Rohan. The melting snow caused flooding around the Mouths of the Entwash, and the invaders from the East withdrew. Gondor was at last able to send aid to Rohan. That same year Beren, the Steward of Gondor, gave the stronghold of Isengard to Saruman, believing that the Wizard's presence would help protect Rohan against invasion in the future.Frealaf, son of Helm's sister Hild, was the first of the Second Line of Kings of Rohan. Saruman attended his coronation and brought many gifts. Rohan began to slowly recover from the effects of the war and the Long Winter."
After battle on fields of Celebrant river, Eorl the Young made a pact with Cirion, the Steward of Gondor that the province Calenardhon will be his and his folk, and it become Rohan.
