For anyone wondering why Gandalf says the things he says :
"Gandalf is making three very specific references as both warning and challenge to the Balrog.
By identifying himself as a servant of the secret fire (or Flame imperishable), Gandalf is identifying himself as a Maia, an embodied angelic servant of the Valar protecting the light of Creation that Eru Iluvatar (or God) has set to burn at the centre of Arda (Earth).
Wielder of the flame of Anor is a reference to his ability to draw on the power of the sun possibly through the Ring of Fire Narya but maybe also through his own divine origins.
Finally as he refers to the Balrog as the Flame of Udun, he informs the Balrog that he knows it to be a corrupted Maia in the service of Morgoth from the earliest time when he resided as Melkor in his dark fortress of Utumno broken by the Valar at the awakening of the Elves. He orders it to retreat (go back to the shadows) or face the consequences of divine conflict and final judgement before the Vala Mandos, the fate of all slain creatures."

I swear I remember reading one Elf went toe to toe in a fight with Morgoth who made Sauron look like a bitch boy and this Balrog was nothing but the lapdog of the head Balrog who was nothing but Morgoths lap dog. I mean the Elf got killed but he still wounded Morgoth in a one on one fight. And Morgoth is supposed to be the big daddy of evil that could create without a ring the stuff Sauron wishes he could. Like Balrogs and Dragons.

"Servant to the secret fire" yes the Istari are the servants of Eru who wields the secret fire of creation, but "The flames of Arnor"? and "Flame of Udun"? As far as I know, Arnor is the fallen kingdom of Elendil to the north, and Udun is just some place in Mordor. Just seems a bit irrelevant.

Sure Aragorn is far more experienced than the Hobbits, but for their party size, no one except Gandalf had the "level" required to survive facing thousands of Orcs and a Balrog. Take away the Balrog, and this is still true. In that sense, everyone except Gandalf is a "low level" Now if they had a bigger group, they might get away with having a lower average "level", but this wasn't the case.

I love this scene for one reason, Legolas is Elf and a huge reason why, he's using a bow and arrow and what makes him a good archer, is his vision. All elves have an ability to see things that far away up close, So when Gandalf tells Boromir about The Balrog, as he is speaking we get a glimpse of Legolas staring down into the shadow in absolute fear, I love it because he is an elf who has lived for many years already by this time, so for him to be as scared as he was, seeing The Balrog. Must have really struck fear into him.

The balrog of moria was the only balrog that survived their extinction by hidding under the misty mountains during many dacades. The dwarves drilled there for a special material called mithril which brough them great wealth. But they drilled to deep and awoke the balro, also called Durin's Bane, bacause he killed King Durin l. Gandalf challenged the Balrog, which accepted the challenge immediately. At the brige of Kazad-Um they fell down to the deepest spot of the mountains, a place, where even the dwarves never have been. Secret Tunnels excavated from unknown creatures guided the two opponents to the eternal stairs, which go from the lowest point of Moria to the Silver peek, the highest point of Moria. The Balrog was good opponent fir gandalf, but to tough, Gandalf died after killing the balrog because he was to exhausted. But the Gods of Middleearth gave him a second Chance because his task was still uncomplete.

But other Elves are known to have killed Balrogs such as Ecthelion and Glorfindel.

Michael Stanley LOTR had better story design, pacing, tension, and even lighting in addition to atmosphere along with the CGI being seamlessly blended into the environment: the environment showed little to leave your mind guessing at the scale, it showed us a quick peek and our minds filled in the rest.
The Hobbit is multi million overly reliant CGI porn, the same problem with the star wars prequels: suffering from detail overload. It leaves nothing to the imagination and that is the main problem.

I find that interesting. It could also be classed as idiotic or strange.
It's interesting from my perspective towards a teachorial one because for most of my life (21 now) I have had a very troubled one because of disability and abuse. During most of this time I desired so much for intelligence and to do the stuff I always wanted to do, yet I was denied it by negligence through my father, teachers and being put with other troubled students.
Yet at the same time I found at the age of 7 I started to analytically study the most darkest mind in history and for the next 14 years pushed boundaries beyond all expectations. Now I am in very wide circles that are rare, dangerous, controversial and starkingly complicated which my life revolves around daily non-stop.
However since going to university and being told more than likely that I have this list of disabilities, for the time being I am psychologically damaged because I now have to write a completely new path different to the one I wrote myself for the past 16 years.
For me and for the seeable future life will always remain shit as shit will continue to fly. On the other hand I am made out of blood and iron.

I remember talking about these movies with my friends 20 years ago. The opening scene of the highly anticipated 2nd film was one of the best ever: we'd waited a year to see what would happen to Gandalf, then we got that amazing fight... but still didn't get to see all of it until the scene in Fangorn. :)

These films all look really good in DVD, Blu-ray & 4K UHD. They were all amazing to watch on the big screen.

The scene of gandalf falling from the abyss and grabbing glandring is one of the most fantastic I have ever seen. What a badass Wizard !
