I'm one of ur Old Skool Fans and had 5 (still have 3) orion 2250's from '93 powered with 4 6 Volt NiCad 280 Amp CN Rail batteries. The dynamic range of those amps were second to only maybe PPI.
Even though concept guys sold out years ago it is still following the core concept of Very Under Ratings.
To get 2000 watts on a Class A/B and NOT melt the car's harness was almost impossible.
Nowadays pulling 890 Amps from 1 amp!?!

You guys knocked it out of the park on this one. Asside from the brute continuous power, I love the fact that it puts out so much more in dynamic power so that the initial impact or attack of a punchy bass track doesn't get clipped the way most other class d amps do when they approach their max continuous output.
Good on your guys for keeping the old school power ratings with new school features and price points. I'm definitely looking your way for my upcoming builds!

They did sell out and went to China but they soon realised the market changes and there name wasnt what it used to be. They were very smart about listening to the community and giving us what we want "high quality" equipment. I've always loved orion and it was a dark time for them not too long ago.

I'm betting its close the the most powerful amp shown in that price layout and about the cheapest too!!! If someone bought one of the other brands after seeing this they are simply fan boys and don't care they arent getting as much power. Lol.

I have the XTR4000.1 and its just a true beast, have it set a quarter of the volume up and its insane how much it pounds my 12" ZV4, trully amazing power. Orion has and always will be the best.
I'm Rocking two Orion 1200.4s and a 2500.1d. It all I need just need to get the electric right without spending another grand.
A 270 alt and two D6500 xs powers arent enough.

you should check out orions CZcams dyno videos. . they have already tested all there amps on video.. they have sum huge amps that put up tons if power, they have a 12k and a 17k hcca series

A lot of people thought my tests were a bunch of BS. I assure you, they are as accurate as I could make them. As you see here the 3K numbers match up pretty well with what I got on the Termlab. Thanks for watching.

I love all the videos and test. I was pretty confident Orion would beat them all, but a lot of newbies talk about D.C. and Skar like they could hold up to Orion. I'm happy to see Orion hasn't given in to just relying on reputation for sales and still makes an outstanding amplifier. Oldschool all the way!

and remember sundown does rated at 14.4 volts and Orion does rated power at 12.6 volts that's why it does so much power

It's nice to see Orion's new owners MD Audio Engineering (they also own lanzar pro and make the current Lanzar Opti amps which are beasts as well) are keeping up with their legacy. The power output on these guys is amazing.

I got my XTR 2500 powering a HCCA 12 in my S2000 and I love it.

The other amps are all great, really they are. this reminds me of the good old days when people saw Orion in your car, they knew it meant business.
PPi, Soundstream, and others pay attention. This is what your higher end amps should be doing as well. This is how you regain respect, with proof and reliability, not designs and stupid spider graphics that impress 10 year olds.
Couldn't agree more about what Epsilon is doing to PPI/SS. If Orion can make a comeback so, can those old school legacy brands. Just takes the will and good company management. Both missing from Epsilon right now.
But, MD Audio...please build better Cobalts and just kill that Ztreet crap altogether.

Agreed ppi black ice amps are good solid amps at a great value price if you toss the box out the window and don't pay attention to their bullshit claims. I feel like they would be well-served to just put accurate ratings on their stuff and give them model numbers that reflect actual output. Nobody believes bullshit ratings anymore you got to tell the truth these days or people like Big D and Ryan B. Will call you out.
Running a 2013 model Soundstream TA1.3000D . Rated 3k watts at 1 ohm... I would love to see the Dyno... I love og Soundstream products as I'm running older t5 12s and my favorite RFL-12s in a Jeep.. those little r3.8 subs are amazing on the same amp as well... Would like to see Where the TA1.3000D stands in ranks with these amps.
I know Orion is in no way the same company they were in the early 90's and the name has been sold several times. However I was really routing for them. My collection of old school amps is small but I have some head turners. The Orion 225 and 250 hcca digital reference 2nd gen get the most attention other than my PPI pro mos 425. I was lucky to find an amp link which I didn't even know existed. They are real head turners. I wish they made amps that look that good still. I've been leaving comments on Orion's videos trying to get them to make a modern NT marble amp but they haven't responded. I've never asked for a thumbs up on a post but maybe if you old school guys could help me out and get their attention. Maybe a pipe dream but I know I would buy one if they made it.
I used to hate orion back in the day because I got smoked at a couple of competitions by guys running 225's. I was running Kicker amps and they were definitely under rated but not like a 225. You could have 10 of those 225's putting out close to 4,000 watts for every 1 500ss putting out 1,000. Otherwise known as the good ol' days.
Zeus and Orion was at the top in the 90s. If you from around Orlando, Florida you know SUGA them EVs in the little black car and NOD CHERRY in the Chevy Blazer bumpin thru the hood.
No , Orion is not what it once was.
So this means you can wire the Orion to 1 ohm and expect to get that 3kw on the label, nice. And it's cheaper than the Sundown. I expect a lot of nuthuggers to cry
So basically the price per watt trophy goes to Orion, and the winner in the Korean board section goes to Skar with Crescendo coming in second, DC in third and, surprisingly, Sundown comes in last, although all of them use the same board.
But DAYUM! Those Orion numbers are SICK!

I'm sry you misinterpreted what I meant when I said "overrated", but it's understandable in this context; what I meant was so many ppl act like Sundown is the best thing since sliced bread (hence the term "overrated") when in reality they haven't been that for years. Ever since they dropped the SAZ line of amps, they started cheaping out on their build quality and this test just proves it.

Lots of good amps out there. Very little differences in many of the brands except Orion / RF / Kicker / MTX / maybe a few others

Thanks Big D. You forced my hand and I got one of these Orion 3k's. I haven't had a system for 15 years. I will say Orion payed attention my amp Birthed 9-28-20 in fact now has a metal housed bass control knob, which includes a clipping light and variable subsonic filter!

I got a little confused I just seen Orion official website they did an unboxing and on the certified sheet that came with the amp it stated 3225 Watts but it was at 12.6 v big d whiz is doing 14.6 v I'm going to see how I can increase my voltage in my Explorer so I can produce these numbers
and that's why they have triple inputs on the Orion cuz they know it's a beast and it needs lots of power but the good thing is and you can run in a lower voltage and still get shitloads of power great job Big D Wiz keep up the good work
Triple inputs in a 3k amp are unheard of!! Obviously they did it for a reason, now we know why
With only 1 run of 0g for pow and gnd going into this amp, do you think it can still push at least 2500rms at 1ohm around 13 to 13.5 volts?

I was so glad to see this video...I already knew that the Orion was packing a punch, but I wanted to see if that Sundown was gonna live up to all the hype. Yikes!! I wasn't expecting that at all. Especially considering how some of Orion's newer budget amps have failed to meet spec. Super happy to see that Orion can still hold up to the big name they were years ago.
The XTR and HCCA amps are legit. I’ve expressed my concern with the budget amps and how they could harm the brand name...

It's good that you do these types of videos (along with others) because this awesome amp falls in to the opposite end of the "watch out for this amp" spectrum. Haha, this beast is dumping almost 50% more wattage then its rating, which is fantastic. Just understand the gain and buy appropriate speakers. If I had the extra cash floating around for an amp I didn't need I'd instantly buy one of these.
BigDWiz there is a new budget amplifier that they are working on in the cobalt line. 2000 true rms @ 14.4 volts for $199. There was a post on their Facebook a few months back about it and a video showing off the prototype. They are working on changing it all up

Orion has been doing good lately
That Orion HCCA amp has been out for years. Its always been a beast! I had an MTX Blue Thunder Amp years ago driving a Cerwin Vega Vega Series back in the day in like the late 90’s early 2000’s. Speaker was made of Kevlar, and had double lip foam. Had it in back of my IROC Z. I still have the car, actually still have the system. Still have the Alpine Head Unit with Gold Plated 4 volt preouts. Its when BBE was big with those. I paid close to $500 back in 1998 for it.

Yeah had surprisingly good power for its footprint. I think mine was 425X1. Could of hit the sub with more, however I was 16-17 years old back then was lucky to get what I did

BigDWiz no doubt about Sundown making quality stuff; but when you're talking an average consumer, we want the best return on investment we can get and in this case, that was an absolute beating.

No worries. But if you have $900 to spend on an amp, nobody will think less of you for buying a Sundown. I'll buy the Orion and use the left over $200 and put towards my BIG3 upgrade. So, not only did I save $200 more than you, my system is (arguably) more powerful (all others things being equal.

I knew as soon I saw the guts of my 11,000.1 and my 4,000.4 I knew they would be way beyond awesome.
I felt the same way with my two 8000.1 d’s and the 2000.4 , it’s been a challenge to keep up with the electrical demands, these amps are built with great quality

Yup, Orion. Basically could have rated their amp twice what they did and charged double. Now that's something!
I’m not sure why they are not putting the 14.4 volt ratings in the manual or specs. Would make it easier to compare their amps with other brands
