These amps are what make car audio exciting and fun!!! In the old days, we'd have to save our paper route money for years to buy power!!!lol
You're absolutely right. Last time I made such comment I was called a boomer, lmfao. Today it's rather easy to get into car audio due to the price per watt
@@jorgem50You're right. Today anyone with a little money can get good bass. Back in the day, when power was $1 per watt, it wasn't so easy.
My first system was 2 10" RF series ones in a sealed prefab box with a 240 watt California amp and it pounded.. rn I'm running a single 15 NVX vcwD2 on a 500 watt Alpine V12 in a 5.85³' vented box tuned at 28 hz.. I have more money in just the wiring than what I paid for my whole system 28 years ago.., but yea.. took over 2 almost 3 years of delivering papers and a couple months making pizzas 🍕 to get it all.. made minimum wage at 4.65 per hour back then..

Oh yeah! You never forget your first “BIG” system! Mine was in in 1987 when I finished my first two years of high school with straight ‘A’s’ and my Grandparents bought me a nearly new ‘87 Nissan D21 pickup with a windowless snug top shell (very difficult for me, because school bored me and I was a notorious goof-off and slacker). I worked Hard that summer at jack in the box to get my 6 M&M Godfather 12’s with 3 Orion 225 HCCA Amps powering them, in a custom built box that a friend and I built in my Grandparents garage. We also cut a “Walk-through” so I could hear all that loud bass goodness!
Hey Big D!!! A blast from the past here buddy. It's great to see you doing what you love bro.

This is a different kind of review than i'm used to on this channel, but i'm here for it. Fantastic quality video, and dang, that amp is CHEAP for what you get!
Wow!! Way under-rated and the efficiency keeping up with the big guys! I'm impressed for a fairly inexpensive 3k! Nice tests as always D!
That's insane value for the money, but holy cow it pulled almost 500amps on the low ohm mode.
It did 7,205 watts, Dynamic R.M.S. Power (Burst), @ 14.63 volts, right after you seen, the 7,009! Great video.
It's not that impressive trust me I have one. She looks nice sounds nice etc etc but level of action output taramps Smart 3k is king 👑
@@crandallexpo0648 - The Taramps Big Boss Bass 8k amplifier, would be my choice, if i were to buy a Taramps product. Same power ratings @ 1/2 ohm, 1 ohm, and 2 ohms. I would wire to 1/2 ohm, so if my impedance rise went up 4x, ( which is pretty average ), i still would be getting rated power.
Love the video.
This alone makes me want to buy it’s big brother the surge 4k that does well over is rated power. Keep up the great work 🔊
Thanks Big D, love my 7000 and a 2000.4 coming. Great stuff.
Colin always has solid amps.
What a great price & great performance. Thanks for sharing
I don’t know if I like or hate the color… BUT she’s a performer for sure! Those bass knob leds doe 😬
Put it in your trunk.. the color won't make a bit of difference... 🍻
Colin strikes back! Looks very well made.
Awesome, I will be looking into one of these soon 👍
That’s a pretty impressive value!! Looks well made….amps have really come a long way in cost VS power
I love your freaking videos man. I stuck with you maybe not since your day 1 but since my day 1. You never disappoint and iv always trusted and respected your videos.
Gorgeous amp for the price very well built. My jl are also made in China so means nothing if the company gets uses good components. My alternator was bleeding just overhearing that current pull at low impededance when I watched this parked in my car 😂 hope these guys do well and keep making high quality bang for buck. ❤️
It's not I issue of you have a good lithium battery. Just get a 140ah for 499. Problem solved
Saw the sale on this amp and I may pick one up. Pretty impressive price for what you get including a bass know with clipping indicator, volt meter, and ability to turn off/on.
Very nice amp. Good looking and well built, I can't believe it didn't go into protect or pop! Thanks for sharing big D
Love the guts fly over, thanks Big D
Looks nice. It seems like there are a lot of companies that found the same buildhouse for amps. This looks a lot like the JP amps, one of the CT Sounds lines, and a few other companies. That fat bass knob wire and the nice knob display that has lights that are way too bright. Caps with the stickers on top and just the general parts and layout. Could be different places copying elements but these all seem to be a little too close to each other. Not saying that is a bad thing, I like my JP amp just fine but this amp really made me think of the JP23v2 performance wise if I am remembering correctly.
Anyway, just an observation and not being negative. Being in car audio since the early 90s, modern amp price/performance blows my mind over the last few years
Absolutely spot on.
The price point for this amp is just about the same as JP23 V2 line so yah it is what it is. But I stop buying car amps back in 2020 so you kids have fun.
Exactly what i was thinking. Came to the comments to see if other ppl caught on lol
Guys help me remember a few of the top build houses
It does look like the jp23 v2 but I wonder if it performs better thermal efficiency wise I had 2 of the jp23 one refurbished one new and they both didn't go into protect for heat and instead got hot puff of smoke and that was it have my subwoofer 1ohm and powering it with a cyber 12k double 1/0 power and grounds
That beast hit 7k and was still going. Haha. I love it.
If not a scope, hook an actual sub or speaker up during the test thru a 100 ohm resistor so we can hear and/or see the clipping during the test. Not all amps clip or ramp up cleanly but still show good numbers.
Yes a scope will show how clean those curves are indeed!
Where is one going to find a 100 ohm resistor that can dissipate all that power?? 🤔
For bass, you won't even hear the distortion if it isn't super clean.
It's the mids and the tweeters that you want to see a super clean sine wave on a scope.
Awesome video again enjoyed it
I loved my surge PS 4000.1 . I really wanna see a Dyno on a syn 6.5k
First, nice bass knob but wow that brightness though. A strap-able budget amp! Very eye catching. My mind is boggled! As far as the tests go I’m glad to see an amp that delivers for budget!! Great video!
The d4s amps are similar. Id bet they use the Same build house. Surge has been on top since they introduced their first amp
@bronwynkaye9277 I have the jp 23 v1.5 and I love it especially the bass knob. But a little jealous of the color of that surge
@@isaiahhowell1090 I had the jp23 when it came out. Pretty solid Amp. we want to hear the distortion cuz we all know that the microphone will distort at high spl. we are not looking for hq on the sub test we are looking for max spl. like I want to see the quad box hitting hard with 1000 or 2000 watts. I mean 4000w would be cool but I don't know if those speakers are rated.
Gotta love efficiency - anything over 90% is worthy of respect imo
It didn’t get over 90% efficiency at even 4 ohm?
@@JasonSousa-xb5xo 93% at 8 ohms.
I LOVE the lousy efficiency of my class A, A/B amps... They eat up that efficiency BUT turn it into beautiful music.
D Wiz, love these videos. Man, I own a few choice pieces of old school stereo from the 90s and early 2000s when 1000 watts meant something. This new stuff blows my mind.

Question BigDWiz. I plan to only run this amp at 4ohms for now. Am I good doing a big 3 and 100amp stock alt or do i need to upgrade alt regardless?
Later on i plan to get a 300 or 350 amp alt and go 1ohm
Which of the this years tested big amps would you recommend? You had a four channel and now a monoblock, the south korean and chinese.
Price, sound quality, the whole package.
Big D, what’s up with the d4s mm1000/1 dyno
I bought 2 of these to strap later... So is it safe to say strapped, these will do around 14k into a 1 ohm dynamic load since it did a little more than 7k at .5 ohm dynamic? Thanks for any info.
Does your daddy JP, employer know about this plug ?

Hey Big D when you run your dynos do you set the gain, or does that not matter on the tests?
I am running a taramps smart 3k bass (I have watched your dynos on the amp) and am going to try and run it on max with a couple of 3-4000 watt rms subs and want to know if I can run it indefinitely on very high gain. I will use the square root of the rms wattage if it’s a 3000 watt rms sub, but if it’s above that say 4-5000 watts rms can I run it full gain?
Full gain will invariably clip your output signal. Half-gain is a good rule of thumb for max. My old-school Pioneer DEH 80PRS head unit has 5v pre-outs. With the gain fully down on my JP8, the amp is matched to a 6 volt input source, so my gain is barely up off minimum to match my head unit's pre-amp output signal. I can go a little past that but I get a chopped waveform on the o-scope if I push to just above where it is currently set. Underpowered, but clean signal is still better than cooking your sub's coils with a distorted output. A soft clip is generally acceptable for a well-constructed subwoofer, but I don't even go that far. When my bass knob says I just hit clipping, I do not go any further, even though the amp will still get louder.
@@timstarnes8587or just overpower the shit out of your subs. It's WAY better for them than feeding them a clipped square wave.
Looks pretty legit amp, I was looking at the Salt 3 or DD M series 2500 and was told about this new surge audio 3k. Seems to do over rated as well as $700 cheaper vs the Salt 3 which I know the salt series is some bad azz amps but also know there's name market ups with some of the big audio companies
Sundown amps roll an ancient 20 year old circuit design with terrible protection circuits. They are way overpriced
Nice I love it!
Can you test out the synergy wfo amplifier?
Omg did this amp just top the Orion. 299 plus amazing jiggawatts
These made in the same factory as the JP amps?
Hey ,big D can test these soudstream mini 1.4000 . Im super curious.
What gauge are the speaker inputs?
Damn, that is a lot of poke for the dough...! Nice one Big D...!
Sir hav a nice moment.. sir what is the uses of coil built in the amp..? Thnx
Have you done Rockville Amps?
What is Supersonic and what are its advantages?
I'd like to see a real world stress test, say half volume for one hour playing music not tones. Not just for this amp but for all future tests. Some amps test good for a few minutes, then shut down after some time .
Your going to listen to 7000 watts of slam, for an hour at a time?? 🤔🤨
VERY NICE BRO!
can you strapped a 0.5 ohms? or 1 ohms? I order one :D
What's is the quad box wired to? Thanks D been a subscriber for 4 years or more. We bass heads thank you for keeping bass alive

Have You ever heard of BGW 2200 ? It’s a powered pa box , looks similar to the kicker , but has 4 15” subs with 4 ports in the same place as the sus, powered by 2 2800 amps. You should get one & try it out Williston. 💯👍👍😊😃

Like to see ur old school amps on the quad box 80'& 90s
What was that song you played big daddy wiz
Will you please test a production amp once the pre-orders ship? I love the results you showed, I just hope they didn't send you the only one that bumps doe.
Haha! There's already a 4k, 7k, & 10k that's been out. Why would the 3k be any different than the other established models?
it's way too expensive to do a one off. This is a final production version without the fancy box and manual.
@@wal thank you!
I really like this amplifier. I wish it was this price still of 299, but unfortunately it didn't last that long at that introductionary price. It instead went up to 399 and at the time it was a little to steep for me and so I opted for another amplifier.
It's advertised having bass boost. Where is it, or is it a misprint?
I have a question I'm new to the audio world can you use a 2 channel amp wiring kit on a one channel amp every thing is 1200 watt the wiring kit amp and subwoofer 12 inch
Yes. Just be sure it's a quality kit. Some cheaper amp install kits exaggerate on the power/ground wire size.
The only main difference between a 2 channel and mono kit, is the output wires going to the subwoofer.
I was on d4s last night looking at surge amps last night, my amp died Friday and now I'm wearing headphones in the truck lol .. don't know if i can wait that long but that's an amazing price which my finances was better I'd scoop it up

How's it going Brother.. hope all is well..?? Quick question, i want to buy a few amps but I'm torn between either Down for sound or Orion.. they seem to be well built but even though Orion is more expensive i think they're amps are better overall. What are your thoughts? I'm going to run 2-3 10" subs..
The bassremote reminds me of the 1's that comes with those Down4sound amps :)
S&I makes a lot of the Korean style amps and use similar bass knobs
looks alot like a CT sounds doesnt it?
and the JP amps althought those hace a different heatsinks on top, the end caps seem the same and the internals as well as the fat remote wore, clip light, and way too bright LEDs. I really think they are rebadging them from the same buildhouse.
this is the only place I ever hear Tiffany style RCA aren't they just panel mount RCA's is there a difference can someone explain please
Really? Never heard them called "Tiffany Style" anywhere else? They are panel mount but I've always heard them and referred to them as Tiffany
A new winner in the 3000 watt category
Man, I hope this amperilly lasts a minute. Because I need it to replace my crafty teeth 1500. I need minimum 2000 W per sub. I've been running only 1100 I need more power!
Awesome!!!!!!!
Your comment regarding not seeing anywhere full power because that's where it sounds good underscores that people really don't need these megawatt muthas to adequately power a system. I had a 250W competition SQ system (no HC amps) way before Class-D was a thing and I was in the 136 dBA range, which is plenty loud. Plus, you get diminishing returns as you have to double power for every 3 dB gained. That leads to spending lots more money in cables, alternators, and batteries for marginally more volume that most people wouldn't notice unless you showed them on an SPL meter.
100 QUALITY watts is plenty enough for permanent hearing damage.
You my friend are absolutely right. I started in car audio in the early 90's, and let me tell you these kids today have it so easy that they don't take the time to learn the science behind car audio, kid's today don't have to learn ohm's law, because all these amps are low ohm stable. In 92 I was able to do hair trick on 500 Watts, had an over sized quad box with 4 15's. Kick comps on 2 kenwood kac 921 ( still have one) look this us going to sound crazy, but u had someone with a taramp 5k and 1,200 watt planet audio , ask me how to i have so much power, I told him I only had a 100 Watts to each interior speakers, and 200watts ( if lucky) to each sub, and every thing is wired at 1.6ohm load. I have a ppi a 600.2 and a eclipse xa 1000 monoblock, the ppi is 30yo and the eclipse is 20yo, so I explained to him that I think in db, you think in watts, I have a quad 6x9 box with 4 pioneer premiers, a chachoro box with 2 10in midrange, 2 bullet tweeter and a horn and a triple stack of 12in punches. I tell him the differanc between 5000 watt amp an a 10,000 watt amp is only 3db, but how we get around that is by each additional speaker is a 3db gain. Mind you he had 4optima batts, 0gauge, 2 audio pipe spl subs (1100 Watts rms) 2 6x9 and 4 compression tweeters, in a Mazda 3 sedan. I can keep rambling, but to put it simple, I told him space makes bass, and did I fail to mention that he had blown one of the subs. These shop's are taken advantage of these newbies, 5k was never meant for 2 subs, maybe 2 18in jackhammers, I don't think 2 13in w7's can take 5k, but I'm sure you remember the Rockford vehical with 12 speakers on one 150hd ( still have one, first gen) after seeing that, I made it a point to learn the mathematics behind car audio
The cost to give yourself tinnitus has gone down drastically. I never cared for straight up numbers and always preferred quality.
@@Bob_Smith19 Completely agree. I have tinnitus myself from that. Well, that and working in car audio for six years. You are absolutely right. I did have fun doing it, though. 😉
I'm more than happy with 500 watts on my sub and 400 on my door speakers. Loud and clean sounding and not a huge strain on my car electrical system.
That’s it. That’s the value I’m loving. Great work Surge on pricing this right.
Strange, site shows pre order is $524 plus shipping
All hail the Power Surge! 👍🏻
Down for sound jp amp kinda ?
I love seeing these amps low ohm stable and made in China so we can all afford them. Korean designed goodness at a price we can afford! That bass remote is ON POINT!!! I love how the bass remote is wired… I’ve heard down 4 sound has been having some issues with their wireless bass remotes… so I’m a huge fan of having a wired bass remote. And yes, I know everyone says “oh just get a RCA bass knob”
… Well, your wired RCA bass knob does not show the clipping, voltage, and temperature of the amplifier…
I don't love seeing this... the economy in my country is going to hell because of stuff like this.
A capacitor setup with many smaller caps, instead of just a few large ones, is a better design and will have much lower ESR than the few large ones.
What is actually crazy about these cheap amplifiers is they will last me my lifetime but when I buy name brand premium it fries after a few years.
How do you know? Your not dead yet... 🤨
I love it
Thats a badass amp for that price!
Which is better in your honest opinion. The JP23 or Surge 3k ?
I'd say surge 3k. I was going to pick jp23v2 but then saw this and bought this.
Same. I was split between this, JP23 V2, Creacenso 2500, Ruthless 2300, and Salt 2. I went with this mainly for the price and definitely for the look of it.

I love the marvel style after video videos haha.
Where do you set gain for this test?
I believe he uses some purpose built amp gain tool to set it up properly. It'll vary between amps put on the Dyno.
Amp gains are matched to Pioneer 80PRS head unit with 7dB overlap using the DD-1+ tool integrated into the Amp Dyno
@wal it would be great to put a how to into one of ur next Amp dyno videos
@@wal I would like to see how you do it

OK, now we're getting to ludicrous speed. Someone should build an amp so powerful that just turning it on will reduce an average car to a puddle of metal, glass and some toxic vapors.
lol
I wouldn't want one. I like my vehicle
Oh yeah!
Wow this is a better deal than the jp23 and more powerful

The Brazilian amps are junk. He's had a couple blow up on him already.
Dude that is impressive 😅
I have dual .67 15s and run it at .67 final so .67 isnt that odd of a ohm load
The dyno's loads are resistive and lack impedance rise as normal speakers would exhibit.
D4s copy? Or close enough
This company was started over 18mo ago by Colin Buckeye. The original owner of Wolfram. Not a D4S copy.
Not a copy, but likely the same amp internally, built in the same Chinese buildhouse. The bass remote is even the same as the d4s amps.
I had to jump on this. My current amp is a Wolfram C-2400 which hasn't let me down after purchasing it preorder years ago. I upgraded to a BEEFY Incriminator Audio Death Row 12" and need Mo Powa Babeh!!!
I'm not so sure you'd see much of an SPL increase by doing that. It takes an ENORMOUS power increase to raise the SPL just 10%
Annnnd preordered
I'd like to see how long one of these lasts. The Chinese/Korean amps are usually lacking in "beefiness" on the circuits and components, especially at prices like this.
It will last, Colin knows what to do and who to have build. Install it correct and enjoy it.
Korean amps are the preferred amp, for their beefiness.
@@imfrom210texas I meant, the Chinese made copies of Korean amps seem to have smaller traces on the board, lower rated, non name brand caps, etc. This one looks pretty decent though
Look at it....
