I am a fossil who started collecting Victorian coins in 1955. For years, at least once a month sometimes weekly I'd go to the banks and get £5 of pennies. They'd come in 20 thick blue paper bags, showing the banks name, all contained in a large blue cloth bag. Each blue bag had 60 pennies in it (5 bob). Hours and Hours of fun sorting through 1,200 pennies. Each year I'd start a new set for the 100 years prior, never kept any that were worn as bad as you have here, of course I had WAY more to choose from., The last time I did this was in 1971 when there were bucket loads of pre decimal pennies being dumped at the banks, on that occasion I got my hands on 4 X £5 bags, Collecting Victorian pennies was simple in the 50s, sometimes 300+ in a £5 sack. Best of all they were free. Some years I'd make 2 complete 100 year sets.I did sell most of them for the princely sum of £1 per 100 year set, more than twice face value at that time.
Wow, I would have enjoyed to go through all those bags of One Pennies like you did. You were very fortunate😃
You can't help but admire a design where the date typically gets worn off last... I wish more coins were like this!
the old coins had such lovely designs on them unlike todays coins.
i do love these coin hunts.
It's amazing that these pennies circulated for more than 100 years!
It’s amazing those pennies are 150 years old and made without use of computers. All handmade dies and thus many mistakes and variants. I love watching your hunts! Inspired me to get my younger friends into coin collecting.
I’ve a bag of Victorian pennies somewhere in the house, always collected the young heads when a kid , fairgrounds were always a good source.
We don't seem to have any resources in the US for British coins. But because there's not as much of a demand in the States you can find some real bargains. One of my finds is an 1869 penny in Fine condition.
Its always great to watch your old penny videos.
Nice to see so many Victorian pennies. I was rooting for an 1869 penny to pop up. But you have done so well to fill that many dates in the board for two videos
Thanks Paul, glad to hear your normal supplier is back on the scene. If only coins could talk, the stories they could tell.
That's IT ! Not UNC but used, done the rounds, seen a bit, accumulated some hands on history during their use.
It is kind of neat to have all Victorian pennies seeing the different states of wear.
That bag of Vickys certainly made some big strides in filling those gaps. And I think the dirty mug got neglected as there were some worthy coins to go into it! 😁
I was hoping some would be in nicer condition, but it wasn't too bad.
Yes, I'll have to sort the dirty ones I missed and put them in the mug
Lots of gaps filled the board is filling up quite a bit. I love the Jack the Ripper Coins, I collect that date from around the world when they turn up....
Thanks for another fab video Paul 👍 don't know why I love penny hunts so much, think because it takes me back to my childhood when mum used to give me tuppence so I could pay for my ticket on the bus ❤ happy memories
Cheers Sue. Yes, my childhood too 👍
A really enjoyable Victoria hunt with a lot of gaps filled. Good news about your original supplier. Hopefully more penny hunts soon.
Thanks Keith, yes I hope the pennies turn up this week 👍
I bought a group of 100 Victoria pennies the last time I visited the UK. Lots of fun!
Excellent mix with lots of dates
The older coins of that sort of penny always look almost mysterious with the worn down features. Yet another good video! 👍
I love the old Victorian pennies, thanks for the video.
I love the Victorian penny's but the Edward 7th penny's are my favorite
Just the sound of these pennies clanking together is another much missed sound from my choldhood!
A Penny-Palooza!!! So many big fun pennies !
thanks for another great hunt!
Nice to see more Victorian coins than the usual 1967s
Nice to see so many of the Victorian years filled including plenty in nice condition. Thanks for another good video Paul
Just to add to your Bingo Lines you had two lines going downwards. Thank you for a pleasureable half hour +.
Nice to see something a bit different rather than the modern coin hunts.
For some reason in my primary school we would polish the bun head pennies and bend them in an old iron gate in the playground
That 1892 is in excellent condition...just love those penny hunt.
Love a Smiffy BINGO line. 🎉
Tha 1896 in fairly good condition for that year, Should have gone in your Whitman album Paul, I seem to remember you’ve been chasing a superior conditioned one in ages. That made a huge dent in the Victorian years👏Very much look forward to the return of the old supply next week
Yes, I should have put that one in my album. Too late now. Cheers Ian. Yes I hope the pennies turn up this week 👍
So nice to see a lot of Victorian pennies in the one hunt. My guess is that three of the four pennies left to find will be the 1950, 1951 & 1953 varieties plus one of the Victorian ones
Great to hear you're getting more coins from your original supplier - these penny hunts are great so it will help you carry on! Happy penny searching! Hopefully the tide won't go out too far!! 😁🍻👍
Thanks again Paul!! Loved this great hunt of these Victorian pennys. 👍
Nice to hear your main supplier has found another batch of pennies arriving soon.
Great load of victorian coins loads of update just love your penny hunts well done paul 👍👍👍
Cheers Ed, thanks for watching 👍
Another fantastic penny hunt , the boards filling up nicely. Learning so much about different error marks and mint marks.
Love your videos. I sit for hours going through my collection. Your experience in finding the good ones helps. Thanks.
What a great selection of Victorian pennies, thanks Paul!
A Great Hunt again, It's hard to find sellers of just Victorian Pennys.
Lovely Victorian pennies, always fun to watch your penny hunts, great video!
Nice penny hunt. Lots of variety. Nice to hear you're in contact with your normal seller. Looking forward to the next hunt.
Thank yoy once more for another GREAT hunt.
So looking forward to the next😊
That was a great haul. Lots and lots of gaps filled. Look forward to the next hunt.
It's great to see a video specifically about the Victorian pennies. Usually we see less of them because of all the later interesting varieties. This was a great video, Paul. Thank you!
I always enjoy watching these videos! Good to hear that your main supplier has another batch on the way!
The 1875-H is the rarest of the set as it has the lowest mintage. Compared to the 1869 it would be interesting to see which had a better survival rate. I have a ¹/² penny with a die number, but I don't know much about it.
Just remembering when I was at school 66 years ago, my mum would give me two of those pennies for the bus fare to and from school. Spent one on black jacks at the sweet shop and walked home. Great days.
4 Blackjacks for a penny in my day, don't remember spending farthings but I presume 1/4d a Blackjack?
Soon as the notification of a new video everything on hold, got to watch now!
Loved the 1896, nice grade, and the rare dot coin. Thanks
I love coin hunts. Especially penny's.
So happy to see a new video, especially all Victorian!
Hi Paul, thanks again for your effort in getting more coins and keeping the videos coming.I keep hoping that you will find something that you keep on looking for, from JRS.
Stunning hunt. Always plenty of information about the coins you sort. Love your content.
Glad to see a fair bit of progress and some lines and also plenty of asked you’ve managed to source more from your original supplier 😊
Great stuff 👍🏻
Hi Smiffy, yes, hopefully more pennies will turn up this week 👍
Love your videos keep them coming 👍🏻
Another brilliant video. Love the penny hunts. This one was really good with just Victoria pennies.
i'm new to this and thoroughly enjoying your videos, they bring calm to an otherwise frantic day
Always a pleasure to watch your coin hunts, ive learnt a lot from you 😊
compelling and fascinating as always
Another great hunt. Filling up the board very quickly with a nice variety
Another informative and entertaining video. Keep up the good work.
Lots of Victoria gaps filled 😊 Nice one Paul 👍
Another fantastic video! Looking forward to the next one.😊
G'day Paul its great to see some more pennies on the board and there is more to come with your normal supplier keep the penny vids coming until your next vid stay safe cheers mate. 👊🇦🇺👍🙏
great video yet again. recently gone through my lot of coins that my grandad had gotten but not sorted through. lot of good finds
Looking forward to the coins from your original mystery supplier! Extraordinary variance in condition in this lot but great spread of dates.
I am always intrigued by the coins with the years overstamped so that an earlier year is still showing. I presume the die was re-engraved (imperfectly) but I can't get the image out of my head of the Royal Mint dragging urchins off the streets of Tower Hill to have them hand punch the new date for a penny a thousand...
Great vid and information as always. I bought a pre-decimal set for £50 at the car boot yesterday. Longest reigning monarchs. Victoria and Elizabeth 18 coin set in a very nice wooden box. I mainly bought it for 1893 crown as I didn't have a Victoria one. The Penny was from 1897, but sadly no dot.
No one would blame you for swapping out any of these coins on the board for any in worse condition from your petsonal collection! So if that 1896 is better than yours, I say go for it!😊
Great video Paul!
Great video!! I love the good old fashioned penny hunts
I do love the Victorian ones! Some nice finds, not bad for £30
Enjoyed the show as usual mate, can't beat the old coppers.
More soon I hope Alen. Thanks for watching 👍
Another pre-decimal penny hunt! Thank you. This made my day much better. Keep up the great content.
Great Hunt. Always informative. Thanks for another great video.
Filling up nicely, love these hunts
Filled up a lot of spaces there , some very nice coins also.
Another top video keep up the good work
I was hoping to see you find a 1897 dot penny😂, but it was very nice to see all those Victoria pennies in one bag😃
Very nice video! I love the old victorian Penny's and it's very interesting to see how different the conditions of the coins are.
Thanks for the reminder Paul, I need to buy new kitchen roll. 😜
Also nice coins 😉
Only watched in for a few minutes & was so surprised at how many OK Victoria's
Another great hunt. Keep them coming.
You've really got me interested in coins now 🤩
👍- I was just watching this video while checking a few of my old pennies...and found an 1882 without the 'H' - at almost exactly the same time as you mentioned it!
However, there may be a reason for it being without the 'H' - it's rather worn! 🤔
I'll check in daylight tomorrow! 🤞
Hi m8 Gr8 video as per usual
Some nice e little upgrades
Great Victorian pennies some nice finds.
Thank you for another great penny hunt.
Great Video Paul, some lovely finds in that lot. I will get back on the coins soon, picking up some silver this afternoon to try and get the mojo back.
Many thanks - another great video. Paused and checked my loose 1863's while watching, but nothing unusual with the 3's and no mint marks - might have to look in the box of old Whitman folders just in case - Look forward to the next one !
Thanks for the video. Got my first Victoria pennies today in an online auction. Not as readily available here in the USA.
34:08 I think there is the dye number 4 towards the right of the 3 in 1863. You can just about see it when the light shines on the coin.
After your penny search. If you want to relax, just pop the blisters on the envelope. It takes all the tension away.😁
Good coin vid. Love to see many Victorian one pennies.
Very very cool. Really enjoyed your video.❤
Pretty decent bag of Victorian Pennies Paul. No rarities but a lot of new finds and upgrades. Obviously a searched lot with any specials taken out. I was amazed at the amount of 1897's. You don't normally get that many in your big penny hunts. Anyways thanks for another nice video. Would still like to win these though. Looking forward to your newly acquired lot from your normal source.
Cheers Keith. Yes, it must have been 10 or 11 1897's. No dot though. 👍
Wow another great hunt Paul love these penny hunts, do my hunts at booties on a Sunday morning... 😀
Amazing video!
Lovely video, and lots of useful information.
Really enjoyed watching this one.
Love these videos, I got a 1914 shilling in my change the other day ,I'm well chuffed
