    I really liked how Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka portrayed a mad genius that is on the verge of going completely psycho. It makes sense that an older Wonka would be a bit more pessimistic about the world and the people in it. Charlie was his last hope in humanity essentially.

    • @blankname6629
      @blankname6629 Před 8 měsíci +4

      Yup that’s why it should not have been remade. The only obvious way to continue it would be to go forward in time or backwards. That’s why I love the snowpiercer theory that it is a continuation into the vast future of the wonka story.

    • @kathycoleman4648
      @kathycoleman4648 Před 8 měsíci +4

      @@blankname6629 They did go backwards. This is not a remake. It's an origin story for the character. There is also debate on whether it's meant only as an origin to the 1971 film, or if they'll continue this Wonkaverse and leave the 1971 film to be its own thing.
      The great thing is that regardless of what they do, the 1971 film remains its own thing. So for me, at least, that means an opportunity to see if I enjoy both.

      Grandpa Joe is like reality grabbing at magic or whimsy's heel, desperately trying not to let it slip out like a firefly from a jar. He is a man who was trapped in a bed for twenty years and who, in his moment of weakness, gives in to his dream to fly. He also highlights part of the reason for his family's poverty: shortsightedness. He is so eager to try and steal a moment of joy for himself that not only does he nearly get himself killed in that scene (along with Charlie), he also encourages Charlie to betray Wonka at the end of the movie.
      However, it's also important to recognize that without that dark moment, where Charlie is facing ultimate despair and does the right thing without any guarantee of reward or payment--which was only possible because of grandpa Joe's actions--Wonka may not have been able to truly tell whether Charlie was worthy to be his successor.

    Just witnessed Wonka 2023, a cinematic gem! Timothée Chalamet's Willy Wonka not only pays homage to Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder's iconic portrayals but brings a fresh perspective. The film masterfully balances dialogue and musical elements.
    Original songs from OG films were thoughtfully integrated, avoiding overuse. Standout moments include the well-placed Oompa Loompa and World of Imagination songs, featuring an unforgettable orchestral rendition. Chalamet's portrayal showcases remarkable character development and connection with other characters.
    The trio of villains, portrayed by Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, and Mathew Baynton, adds richness to the narrative. Paterson's Slugworth steals scenes with a charismatic and comical performance.
    Wonka 2023 has secured its place in my top three for 2023. A must-watch for surprises, great characters, and Chalamet's outstanding performance paying homage to the classics! I give it an 8.5 out of 10

    Tim Burton's Wonka movie was actually more accurate to the book and even got approved by the Dahl Estate as the story they greatly prefer. Personally, I only liked the 70s movie because of Gene Wilder's charm; the rest really wasn't that great and the Oompa Loompa music was the same song played over and over again. In contrast, the Burton movie's Oompa Loompa music dared to make memorable & distinct songs for each kid's demise, and had far better set design to represent the different whimsical factory rooms. And Sir Christopher Lee was an absolute treasure.

      The thing is though that the same Umpa Lumpa song is far more memorable than any of the umpa lumpa songs in the sequel in my opinion. The other songs throughout the Gene Wilder original are also all distinct and a lot better than the Depp remake which are forgettable for the most part. I remember those original songs including Gene wilder singing. I think I remember 1 from the remake. They are very poor.
      Yes Gene Wilder was fantastic and much better than Depp - he steals the scenes in a way Wonka should. The set designs are naturally better and should be for a more modern show. I still found the demise of the kids better in the original and far more creative. I also didn’t need the Wonka origin story.
      Having said all that, my kids loved the Depp version and that’s who it’s made for, I guess. I think the original could be enjoyed more by both adults and kids.

      @@artimuos903 I'm telling them that anyway. And no, it's not hypocritical for everyone who hates those adaptations. You oversimplify it. You're neglecting writing quality and internal consistency that Netflix Witcher & Rings of Power both lack. I find that Burton's Wonka has both high quality and high faithfulness, with a pretty compelling narrative of a sad child who wanted to live out his dreams in spite of his strict dentist father... who actually loved him all along at the end. Change in itself is not bad; the thing that is different must be good or better than the original.

    "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" is an iconic cult classic (one that I also enjoy) but it was a financial flop that everyone, including the original writer, hated. He hated it so much that adaptations to any of his works were banned until his death. After he died the 2nd film was made and his family said that he would've loved it.
    Both films were products of their times, but only one disappointed not only audiences but it's own writer. Everyone only knows about the first film because they ran it for free on TV because it was always meant to be nothing more than a giant advertisement that steered so far from the source material it could be considered its own thing.

Wonka showed his true self only after Charlie gave him the Gobstopper, when he smiled and hugged Charlie and was happy caring and loving, why else would Wonka want a nice kid who's pure in heart if not because he's like that himself.

    I actually liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. To me it's all about acceptance. I am not sure if the movie is about gay but I got the feel of Wonka is just DIFFERENT and it's about how to accept who you are and who your son is, despite how weird he is. I loved the ending of how Charlie rejected the fortune and it was actually Wonka who gained a new family. I am not sure if this is the original ending. But it has great forsight for a movie in 2005.

    Nah I gotta say it, haven-t seen this one, but saying the Depp one is trash is just wild, it was more faithful to source material and I felt it was more entertaining, but I kinda want to check this one out

    What's that? I thought Joe hated musicals and wasn't his cup of tea, the hypocrisy is off the charts, only Alan Wake 2 gets the hate because I'm not shooting a enemy every 2 minutes.

      Bro. You are being totally fucking weird about my opinion on Alan Wake 2's stupid fucking meme dance sequence.
      #1. I dont care theres "not shooting a enemy every 2 minutes". I love True Detective stuff.
      #2. I didn't finish Alan Wake 2 because I had to make a decision on other things in my life and other games that released at the same time.
      #3. From the little I played of Alan Wake 2 I found it impressive and immersive. I got the impression OJ and Alex liked it less than I did.
      Get it right at least. The only thing I didn't praise was the cringey dance sequence at the Game Awards which apparently was a mortal sin to some of you weirdos and its getting old already. You are literally crying over my opinion that I liked the film Wonka more than the Herald of Darkness meme dance at the Game Awards, are you guys fucking serious?

      @@AngryJoeShow Lol, nice to see you saying what you really think about it, that is stupid and a meme when you got called out for it exactly for saying that which shows you don't know what the musical really means in the grand scheme of things. Anyway, I'm not all that serious about it, it's just a bit of provocation with tough love, take care my friend.

    Charlie and the Chocolate factory is so freaking weird, that's why i love it. the visual style is a mind fuck, the character design for wonka and the loopas was straight out of a nightmare and the things that happen to the bratty kids were psychotic. that's why I liked it.

    I grew up with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and though it isn't as good as the original film, it's also trying to do something completely different than the Gene Wilder film. It goes out of its way to adapt more stuff from the original book, most notably the Oompa Loompa songs which are awesome imo. Johnny Depp was a little freaky in his potrayal but I guess that was just some bad direction of Tim Burton's part.
