- We've made this so easy! 5 styles of worms, 2 basic colors, and 3 ways to rig them. Let's head below the surface and look at the differences between the different offerings. Do you really need 100's and 100's of worms? Of course not! Today we're going to simplify fishing with plastic worms.
Worm fishing can be broken down into 5 tail styles. Within those 5 styles you can find your favorite models. Within those models you can survive with 2 basic colors (Black/blue and Green Pumpkin) but it can be nice to have a few others as well.
Below is a break down of the styles, including our two favorite picks from each category. We'll also include our favorite hooks, jigheads, as well as rods and reels.

Excellent breakdown 👍.....caught 3 fish from the couch just watching!
Hahaha!
Nice.
Are those 3 fish legal size ?
Was your couch properly registered and inspected?
FloridaWoodsWater ha no sorry must have a twin....
lol
Hey guys i am 68 years young and have been fishing for 60 of those years. Your instructional videos on how to rig this and that and so much more info has made me a better bass fisherman over the last few years. My catch ratio has gone up every year since i started trying your tricks of the trade so to speak.I always fished my worms two ways, texas style or wacky style and most always caught fish. But on those days when it was hard to find a bite i started trying some of the new styles such as shaky heads ans drop shot ect,i started catching fish instead of giving up and going home.I thank you guys for that! keep up the good work and info it helped this older fisherman.
"If your rod deflects, hit em! If it's grass, it'll just pop out." - Matt
*spends an entire afternoon snagging every log in the entire lake.
Too true, I I'm a southern mn man and I am surrounded by logs and branches, you almost have to spot fish for anything now days (in a kayak or boat)
You're probably fishing the right stuff tho.. bass love wood structure..
Two out of the three lakes I fish have pretty clear water, so I use mostly swimbaits - soft-plastic shad, bluegill, or perch lures or my personal favorite the swimbait/crankbait hybrid: it has a fat body and a long tail and combines the wobble of a crankbait with the swimming action of a swimbait and bass go nuts for it. The only problem is that you really have to know what's a bite and what isn't or you'll snag every stick there is and lose your lures.
Clear lake has little to no timber
weightless texas weedless. I use 6lb mono and Its fine.. I think here its worse.. we have tons of small rocks on bottom.. so you cant really use any bait or you will snag it so easily.. but weightless texas weedless can last a long time in this area that is the worst to shorefish from. the shoreline is limited here also.. that's what makes it so much of a pain.. it gets cliffy quick and its heavy pressured also.. lake sucks so bad I wouldn't want my enemy to fish here lol. though can get tanks here.
Anyone is catching fish in their minds on their favorites spots as they watch the different rigs and underwater footage?
Frank Sz nah. Getting skunked even in my dreams
@@John-nd7il LOL...the Laughter makes it all worth while.
Why yes, actually.
@@gbnomore3918 www
Bruh I might as well set up micro rigs because the kind of bass y’all fishing ain’t even on my bait radar yet.
Don’t think I ever took the time to thank you guys for teaching me how to fish. Every single video you put out is just a wealth of info. Thank you!👍
agreed
I so appreciate you guys. I try to be a student of the sport. I go to workshops, take notes and watch a ton of videos to prepare for tournament seasons. Your channel has been a staple of my learning progression over the years and will continue to be as long as you guys keep generating them. I find I revisit them many times as a refresher on specific techniques I'm either learning or gleaning information on existing techniques that I might have missed the first time around. I also appreciate the lists you include in the description, of not only the bates, but the breakdown of the gear you prefer to use. I hope TW gives you guys a kickback as I know I've spent thousands there based on your recommendations.
As always a fantastic informative video. Thank you guys so much!
I always love the underwater footage. U can learn so much from just a few seconds. Thanks for showing us.
The only CZcams channel I let the ads run on
Same
You're a true subscriber respect
Same thing buddy. Best informational fishing channel on CZcams.
First time watching. I like how he goes into detail what each worm does and how to use them.
It's 2021, can confirm these still work. Thank you!
Every one of these videos is a treasure trove of knowledge. it's awesome.
Love this channel! Ha, its funny, as a kid i was always fishing rubber/plastic worms with a bullet weight with great success! I'm 51yrs old and now I find out that it called a Texas rig. I can remember when Bass Pro Shops had "that" catalogue.. eww wee, that was a big day when it arrived! Thank you for all that you do and for helping me get back into serious fishing. The underwater footage is amazing.. I always wondered what they were doin' down there!
You guys just alone have taught me way more than all the books, magazines, and other videos have.. Just wish the bass around here got the chance to get as big. Love the videos and how in depth you guys are. Please never stop making them.
You guys are the only people who can make a how to fish a worm video and still put some information in it that hasn't been repeated 1 million times !
I’ve been looking for a video exactly like this. The hardest part is visualizing what the bait is doing in the water, and how it attracts fish. Thanks for this🤘🏼
I love the way you approach these videos. Me, and I'm sure a lot of others are overwhelmed by all the choices and techniques out there. I just don't fish enough to keep up with everything, so it helps me to really narrow the scope down and have some general understanding about worm fishing and some tried and true methods/tools such as you taught with this video. Really filled a lot of gaps in my understanding about worm fishing in. Thanks so much!
I’m a super noob bass fisher and this was perfect! Thanks for taking the time and breaking this down. I took notes on paper like I was back in high school. 😂 have a great day
Are you a pro now HAHAH
I had a peice of paper out too. Also new bass fisher, retired trout fisher
I love how truly passionate you are for this sport. I think that let everything sink in a lot better.
One of the best tutorials I've seen yet. Thank You!!!
Over 50 years of worm fishing 15 years as a guide on Table Rock lake and the speed worm escaped me. I just saw another video on speed worms. So I guess as they say never to old to learn. I enjoy your videos.
By the way Gene Larew lived at Table Rock Lake and was a true innovator in plastic worms we fished them all the time. I think his first worms may have been speed worms (little hooked tails) and did not pick up on the swim bait action.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m pretty new to fishing and need easy to digest videos. It’s so refreshing to get a thorough and simple view like this one. Amazing video!
thank you thank you thank you! I've been fishing 100x . never really took it serious or knew what i was doing. decided to take it serious and found you . great advice !!!!! now i know what the heck to do with this stuff
Thanks Matt! Informative as always. Even the basics need to be revisited from time to time. We all get stuck in such a rut sometimes that we only see a fraction of what certain baits are capable of. Nearly 200k,keep it up!
Absolutely love the concept-underwater footage helps a lot! Subscribed!
Best tip and how to videos on utube period
Absolutely love watching your videos!!! Extremely informative and very motivating. Thanks for doing what you do!!!
The best informative videos for fishing on CZcams, hands down..
You guys are awesome teachers. In depth explanations in simple layman's terms. Much appreciated!
After half a lifetime only fishing salt, I've been super into fresh water the last few months. Love the video!! One of the best I've seen
As usual another great video from the best BassFishermen on CZcams. Thanks Matt.
Awesome video Matt. I grew up on worm fishing, Texas and Carolina rigging, and this is my favorite video yet from you guys! Keep up the great work.
I subscribed because you kept it simple and used terminology for the amateur fisherman without making me feel stupid! Thank you! Plastics is something I have yet to master and I’m excited to get started. I’m a spinner bait, rattle trap or spider rigging fisherman.
Nice video. Very informative. I embraced the use of plastic worms last summer and had great success. These tips will help, too. Thanks.
Just started fishing again for the first time in maybe 10 years honestly more like 15. I can't thank you enough for this super simple and to the point video. I don't mind asking for help here and there, but it has been frustrating having to feel like a total greenie. Thank you for this! So much information in one place and very well said.
that's awesome...if ya got any questions let me know!
You packed so much information into each video, thank you for everything you do!
Outstanding job, Matt. By far my favorite subscription. I watch your videos with my 10 year old grandson so he can learn right while young.
Thanks for the kind words Steven!
Much love for the senko and straight tail worms obviously, but I think there's something to what he was saying about the speed worm. That's not something ppl are onto where I am.
Also, I like what Matt said about worm fishing being one of the first and most basic techniques you learn but it's so effective that you'll always do it.
That was a definitive explanation and excellent grouping of worm styles, your latest content has finally hooked me! I’m subscribed, Fish on!! 👍 keep it up Big Dawg.
Thank god for you sir lol I fished a lot when I was very young and I loved it I started taking my kids fishing and I can’t remember a lot of techniques it’s been so long. Thanks to you I can show them some good tricks
Just stick to the tried and true black/fire tail worm. It will catch bass in any state, any river, pond, lake, stream, or mud hole.😎👍. Just put a light weight on it... doesn’t matter the shape and cast it out there and get funky with it.
Videos like this are the reason i subbed this channel the first time i cane across it. Thanks for all the usable info...been fishin all my life and always learn somethin new every time you guys post a video.
Only channel I've came across that I actually subbed to first video. Such quality content. Extremely impressive
2:28 lol, boys we have hope!!!!! Great video man, very informative.
Great advice man. I caught my first jig fish because i had the mindset that hooksets are free.(they are) I was in that split second of doubt and swung... Fish on!!!
Great video Matt. Very helpful. This one is going in the library so I can revisit after we thaw out. Thx!!
Trick Worm on a 3/16 or 1/4 oz Shaky Head is an absolutely lethal rig.
Loved the video. Very informative and enjoyable. Plastic worms are definitely underrated!
Keep up the videos. A lot of good stuff I’m learning. Bought a whole set of stuff after your jig and Ned video. Also like watching current videos and fresh content. 👍🏼
Tactical is quickly turning into the best CZcams fishing videos there are, y’all are doing great work, please do some reviews on the cheaper 100 dollar and less rods
As always matt awesome videos. I have caught more fish since I've been watching your videos. Awesome tips on fishing.🙌🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍
The way you describe and teach is just perfect for me, and absolutely you guys have made me a better fisherman 100%..and I just wanted to say thanks! Day after day, again Ty!
Thank you, simple and it covers all bases. Great tips, tight lines.
Very nice explanation & break down for fishing different Worm rigs. The Best when & where to use them.
Really Enjoyed the Underwater Video.
THANKS again.
One of the best explanations we've seen.. Get HOOKED!
Great video. Me and my 6 year old have been learning to fish together this summer. We tried the basic fake worms with a texas rig and he caught 6 bass in one day at the pond by our house. He was so happy he almost had tears. Thanks so much.
Your videos are awesome man thanks for all the stuff you guys do keep it up!!!
and it's these videos that set you apart from EVERYONE! I can't thank you enough for these videos.
Can I just say thank you literally in 15 minutes you give us your top 10 how are you Rig them and when to use them this might be the best beginner fishing video on CZcams
you guys are the "Bruce Lee" of fighting fish😁. Another Informative Video for us anglers🤙Thanks. Much love!!!🎣
I enjoyed this video and learned a lot, I took notes for when I'm out in the water... Thank you guys
Thanks. that was a great breakdown of the different varieties and when and how to fish them.
Great video man, sent it to my nephew who I have been teaching to bass fish... This will help immensely
This is by far the best plastic video I’ve watched! Great job
Good Lord...you guys are costing me A LOT of money! And you're making A LOT of money for Tackle Warehouse! HAHA!
How are they costing you a lot of mo y
What a great video! I like this alot, you are very knowledgeable and I kinda agree with everything you said in this video! I have been bass fishing since the 80's and I have used plastics in all kinds of situations. You sir, have it dialed in! Great job!
Good content as always. You have developed an ability to cover info for all levels of anglers in one vid. You let us know how complicated you can go fornthose of us who enjot.foing down the rabbit hole to keeping as basic as it can be for those who aren't at that point....yet. KEEP IT UP.
Once again, thank you so much for simplifying it. I will be picking some up and trying them. Thanks again for not just saying that I need a dedicated $200 rod that I can’t afford and explaining what to look for. Always appreciate the advice. I know it’s not the be all end all, but gives me a great place to start and get success. Much appreciated!
Great advice, keep it simple. It is so easy to get overwhelmed when trying to purchase fishing tackle, thanks very much for sharing
Thanks Matt, no idea how much you help us! 👊
The underwater footage helps so much.
I love u guys . Pure knowledge . This is what we all want to see.
GREAT !! Commentary!! I loved it... Simple details make the fishing SO !! easy.!! We fish the northern upper Lakes of Wisconsin in the fall
Some are super clear, lakes.. even ones in a little more Murkey . We used custom made worms .JET black / no fleck. super salt /anise infused and then stored and rolled in the Anise oil 100% slow fall technique . Or a drag along. unbelievable results for small mouth. large mouth . 20 Years. We have been using Senkos , My buddy jimmy made them ,WHEN NOBODY EVEN NEW WHAT THEY WERE..Up north anyway! .I'm Bragging here ,there were 4 years in a row when the average smallmouth was 5 lb's and the catch of the day was over 6-1/2 LB OMG, Love the memories .The locals always asked what you fishing for?. most anglers up north fish for muskie or walleye. That time of year. Nope --WERE FISHING FOR bass. BASS.??? Why?? biggest fish we ever caught.. they don't like Bass ! We stopped telling /them we were fishing for Bass . Changed it to Walleye/Muskie. ALL catch and release.. over the years the colors changed, but!! the major catch always come;s from jet black.and still does. thanks for the VID i really liked it
BTW- 20 years later later . the lakes are Loaded with bass fishermen. -guess who still
kills them???
Mike
You guys literally teach me something new every damn video!! Love TB!!
I really enjoyed this one!! Lots of great but simple info!!
First video I’ve seen from you. Love the simple ness and the straightforwardness!!! Super helpful! Thanks!! Subscribedddd
Hook sets are free. Great video Matt. Back in the day my favorite worm was gator tail.
Best banner I’ve seen on my phone all morning!
Matt’s a legend and probably doesn’t even know it. Can you imagine how many generations will be using this information. DIG IT 👍
It's great knowing all this as today I had a fairly bad day of fishing but watching this video helped refill my confidence and energy to fish. Now I know the correct way and the things I was doing wrong
Awesome video, very helpful for a guy getting back into fishing. Thanks
As I was watching this, a thought popped in my head. You guys could probably write the most useful bass fishing book on the market.
Fry Brothers Fishing would be longer than the bible
@@andrwhppe... And there's the title.... The bass Bible
I'm kind of new to these videos but I catch myself watching multiples day and night you're full of good knowledge and I love watching you guys get excited about each other catching fish!🎣 much love from South Alabama... your deflection comments we're so spot-on helpful that's the kind of stuff that doesn't get talked about nice!
Go back in their archives about a year, and they did a video explaining and showing the whole thing.
great video explaining, I like the underwater footage
I love this. Not that it’s information a lot of us don’t know. It’s just that I love work fishing.
One thing you didn’t talk a lot about here is Carolina rigging curly tails and speed worms.
Here in Utah we have deep reservoirs, steep drop offs and shelf’s. And these hold a lot of fish that people just overlook or give up on.
Carolina rigging big curly tails is a trick I’ve started to use and it works. I caught a lot of fish this year Carolina rigging off of shelf’s, through ditches, big underwater rock piles. Structure where the Carolina will shine vs Texas rigging and Its just been so fun.
The worm I use the nose is the Zero Baits megaworm. It’s a 10” curly tail. Great colors.
I know I’m the Owner of Zero Baits but I mean It’s what I absolutely love to do.
Zero-Baits.com
Matt, you are a Great Teacher/Fisherman!
Awesome video man, and incredible underwater footage! Keep it up
Best worm video that I've seen in a while
Thanks Matt.
TacticalBassin, I thoroughly enjoy your videos. They are very practical and informative in detail. Great tips and advice as always. Both you guys do a great job. Even though I'm from the midwest, your tips and techniques are or can be versital in any fishing condition that presents itself! Thanks
Best info video I've seen. Thanks
Knowing the action of every lure or worm is great!👍
My friend from and I have been watching fishing video's for a week. We went Today At a pond around his condo. Had a fountain in the middle. We caught largemouth bass for 4 hrs. Frogs, spinner baits, jigs and senkos. The biggest I caught was probably 5 to 6 pds on a senko. He hit hard. Caught me off guard. Been catching 2 to 3 pounders all day. Awesome day of fishing. Shawn
Thx for this vid man. I'm in Florida, so this info. is definitely helpful.
this is truly extraordinary, good job 👍
This was great and VERY helpful! Thank you!
Love the simplification! Thanks!
I swear...who gives great info like this a thumbs down? Crazy. Thank you Matt!
For real...good luck out there brotha!
6" Black Yamasenko is my default lure on a carolina rig. Great video.
Superb video ! Your descriptions are right on. Kut Tail worms are one my best worm producers. Agree about colors.
I love your videos! I got into bass fishing in 2018 and you guys played a huge part in making it a success! I look forward to more videos and fishing the open water. As for right now I guess Ill have to stick to ice fishing and just watch you guys catch bass.
Great info as always Matt. Nice job.
Bro. 1 of most favorite videos

Very good education. Now time to try again!
Another awesome video Matt!
You guys rock!
