- Lamu hosts some 60% of Kenya’s mangroves. These forests are biologically diverse, harbouring intertidal flats and seagrass meadows that are rich in fisheries resources. Lamu’s communities rely on mangroves for food, poles for houses, wood fuel, traditional medicine, and more. However, there is pressure on these forests and the need to conserve what remains and restore what’s been lost is urgent. @WetlandsInt together with Mangrove Action Project and @kenyaforestservice4503 is working with the local communities and other stakeholders in the restoration of mangroves in Lamu using the Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration approach.
