    This is definitely the sweet spot in the Taycan lineup. I don't see the need for extra performance of the Turbo or Turbo S that will just suck up range yet, it's still fast enough to be entertaining not to mention the roofline gives it better looks (IMO) and functionality. Definitely on my short list...

    There seems to be a misunderstanding in the video about the ride height. The basic ride height of the Cross Turismo is 20 mm higher than the normal Taycan. So setting it to "normal" or going fast, doesn't set it to the same height as a regular Taycan. The gravel mode adds 10 mm, so regular Taycan +30 mm. With the optional offroad package the basic height is 30 mm higher than regular Taycan, but the gravel mode doesn't add anything to that.

    • @cbatiau2528
      @cbatiau2528 Před 2 lety

      No, I think you're wrong on the gravel mode; gravel mode moves the CT to 10 cm higher than the CT outside of gravel mode. I'm sure he's correct in that the 30-cm extra ground clearance (over the sedan) only works at speeds < 50 mph, and that > 50 mph the ground clearance stays at 20 cm higher than the sedan (though sport-plus mode may indeed lower the ground clearance further).

(eye watering price notwithstanding) should be a popular car up at the ski hills. Maybe the extra push we need to slow the trend away from SUV's? I want a well done Ariel Nomad in electric. Explore sleepy villages with bad or no pavement without obnoxious noise. But great ability to do do that fun bend or jump again. Some did an electric Nomad, I just need it done better. Maybe AWD, how'd that be?
    Smallest and lightest of front motors. A Formula One unit can be like 8 kg for 160 bhp. There are nice and light pancake ones. Maybe do one per wheel, because TV. Same in back for tank turns. Like a Rivian truck but 1/4 the weight. Would not need huge power, the 4x4 traction makes it quick enough anywhere. Top speed to 200 kph more than enough, not too hampered on the odd tarmac track day.
    Alternatively, bolt on a single Lucid 670 hp lightweight motor and a 4x4 driveshaft. Nice and basic, possibly and sure simpler to program. Pack from upcoming Tesla 4680 cells super low down.
    And with unlimited body...could that tube frame be done in Titanium or ultra high end steel to sav some weight? To be daft, would a carbon tube frame work?

    I disagree with you about the glass roof (which you say is a good thing that it's standard in the US): I don't want a glass roof and wish that we had the option in the US that the Europeans have to not get it (and save some extra money, presumably). Also, in all the CT reviews I've seen, nobody seems to have compared the rear-window view of the CT vs. the sedan rear-window view; I'm guessing that the wagon rear-window view is noticeably better than that of the sedan, but it would be nice for some assessment of that to be made known in a review like this.

And you wouldn't have Tesla Superchargers, you wouldn't have it's range (400+ miles EPA), or performance (3.1 seconds to 60). Wrong. Just because Tesla overstates their range does not mean other manufacturers do. Edmund's has real world range figures for most EVs on the market and the Porsche Taycan 4S exceeded its official range by a whopping 59%. It actually went further than a Tesla Model S despite the Tesla claiming a 123 mile range advantage on paper. Check out Edmund's real world range figures and see for yourself. The Porsche did over 300 miles in their test and beat a Tesla model S in range traveled. Tesla and Polestar were the two manufacturers to constantly overstate their range figures whereas Porsche and Audi and Ford and Hyundai and Kia and Nissan exceeded their EPA figures.

    I know you know that you are almost never wrong, and in this case you might slide by because you called the charge door "very cool" and didn't really endorse it. You might have told your great subscribers, however, that it adds to the drag because it blocks the air coming through the slot and it tries to close on your finger when you bump it with the charger nozzle- and sometimes decides by itself not to open when you need to charge and is therefore not worth the party trick benefit. :-) I will, however, forgive you because you carefully block off the curvy road you use to do these tests so you don't run into the idiot coming the other way on your side of the road. Stay safe, my pilot friend (bet I flew before your did :-)). PS I agree with you that I would write a check for it without the "off-road" features and 4S. PPS. The '66 911 plowed terribly until you let off the throttle, the the back end became the front end.

    Range of EV's is a very murky concept. Max range will be marketed and mentioned on reviews, but its the range between charges + time to charge that matters. And with that, I submit all EV's fail. They are city cars. And in a country of interstate highways and longer range travel options (as flying becomes more expensive and burdensome) the EV comes up short. I will take my SUV with a 400 mile range: 350 miles between fill ups + 5 min refuel, all day long. Not to mention the environmental impact of the battery raw materials (lithium & cobalt).

      Agree but also admit it depends where you live.... I'm in the west where we do 400-2000 mile road trips all the time, so its as you state. But friends out east drive way shorter trips than I do, they are kind of "extended city" in range needs. For many Easterners, EVs could work OK.

    An improvement over the sedan Taycan in looks and packaging, but if they could only do something about the front. The way the headlights are integrated is awkward looking and not a thing of beauty. Also the black cladding on the arches looks cheap as it does on the Audi Allroad, VW Alltrack, MB E450 All Terrain, just let Subaru own it for themselves for their fanboys.
