    Your Swiss Alps vacation should be filled with scenic mountains, Swiss villages, and lots of train rides!
    When you start planning your Switzerland itinerary, this video will help you pick the best town/village to stay in the Jungfrau Region.
    😍Some of these spots are the most beautiful places to stay in Switzerland-one of them might even be considered as one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland! (Can you guess which one?!?)
    Of course we’re mentioning the most popular places like Interlaken and Grindelwald, Switzerland. But we’ve also lived here for the past 2 summers so we’re spilling the beans about a few of our absolute favorite Swiss villages in the Jungfrau Region!
    We rank each Swiss village based on:
    1 | Proximity to popular sights, like Jungfraujoch or Grindelwald First
    2 | Conveniences and amenities, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, etc.
    3 | Charm and authenticity - this one speaks for itself 🙂
    4 | Average cost of an Airbnb based on data
    5 | Other factors to consider, like weather, guest cards, hiking trails, etc.

    I visited the first week of April 2019 and used Interlaken as my base. You're right: it's pleasant enough but definitely on the touristy side. Having all the transportation links was a definite plus.
    I did use my Swiss Pass to go to the Schilthorn on a Friday after about a meter of fresh snow had fallen in the Alps. It was nuts. There were tons of locals wanting to go skiing, so I had to wait over 90 minutes to get on the cable car going up the mountain. It was worth the wait.
    I'm not sure if you ever spent any time on the south side of the Alps. I spent two nights in Fiesch and went up to Bettmeralp to view the massive Altesch Glacier and the other side of the Jungfrau. It was stunning.
    Great video with tons of useful information.

    I stayed 10 days in Wengen in November and hiked everyday before i started my remote work around 3-4pm. My house had a panoramic view of the entire Lauterbreunnen Valley where I almost walked there everyday (30-60 min walk). I enjoyed many breakfasts and did most of my work on the deck savoring the view. I hiked up to Eiger base and hiked to many directions around Wengen. Almost hiked to Grindelwald too but went out of time. I also hiked between Grütschalp, Wengen and Gimmerwald. Not to mention the many valley walks I did. Next time I'll considers staying in Gimmerwald. The entire village was closed when I went there except I got my self-serve beer from the store that ran the honor-system. Thanks for bringing me back my sweet memories.

    I spent a magical week in Wengen 20 years ago - it was August and we had perfect weather with sunshine and clear blue skies. I’ve never really dreamt about a place I’ve visited but I’ve had many vivid dreams of taking my dad/sister/husband to Wengen. It’s the most beautiful place with breathtaking views but … the second time I went it was totally different… same time of year but different weather!! We were in the clouds most of the time and never got to see the mountains. My plan is that when I retire, I’ll keep an eye on the forecast and if I see a week of sun - I’m off 😊

      I have been to Leukerbad, Marcia. It's a pretty area, though a bit different from the Bernese Oberlands. The village itself has the basics you need in a grocer & restaurants, I can't remember if it has a drug store (Apotheke). It's big thing are the baths which we didn't do. Do note two things, when we went about 6 years ago it was customary for most things in town to close from noon-14:00 (2pm), including the local busses (making for a long trek very uphill with our suitcases to our place of lodging but also making for funny memories). It's also like Murren in that it's an end destination; you take a very lovely but very winding 30 min. bus ride from Leuk if you're using public transportation. (for the most part busses leave every half hour) We didn't do any mountain excursions as it was rainy the whole time. We ended up just relaxing, taking a few hikes, and a trip to Sion.

      Thanks so much for your encouragement and for sharing with your friends! Wimmis would be a good short-term hub for visit spots like the Stockhorn, Niesen, Thun, etc. But it would be pretty inconvenient for concentrating on the Jungfrau Region. Spiez would be a better choice if you're looking to save money, and it will put you a little closer to the region while cutting down on a train change.

    Hello, firstly thank you so much for such informative videos. I'm a new member of your channel and already loving the videos. 😊
    2nd please, please, I have a huge favor to ask, I would like to know if someone is traveling to Switzerland only for two nights and don't want to stay in zurich where should they stay? I'll be traveling to Switzerland for the first time on November 28th, but only for two days. I was planning to do half a day in zurich and Lucerne, then in the evening, reaching to grindelwald and the next day spend the whole day there, afterward next morning return back to zurich to catch my flight. But I just found out everything in Grindelwald first will be closed for the days that I'm traveling, so my whole plan falled apart. I'm so confused at this point about where to stay and what to do on my 2nd day, which is closer to Lucerne and also close to zurich airport to go back. I know it's a lot to ask but please suggest to me a place that will have some mountain activities like gondola, views, activities open during November 29th. And what travel pass will be best. I'm traveling for the first time with my mom to give her a memorable birthday gift, but right now, I feel so lost. Again, I am so sorry to bother you like this. And thank you. TC

    I've been researching for our first trip to Switzerland for months, and just found your videos. They are by far the most helpful! We will be using your links for our train tickets and guides.
    We have four children about your age, who love the outdoors. We're hoping for a ten day family vacation of a lifetime, desiring the ultimate, authentic Swiss experience (in views, experiences, and dining). We have rented a beautiful home in Murren for 9 nights (the minimum stay). I am thinking that we may want a little more "action" in the experience and dining areas on our last two nights? Would you suggest Zermatt over Grindelwald, staying outside of town in either, as you suggested?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Stephanie, thanks so much for your encouragement!
      You might really enjoy seeing Zermatt as a compliment to what you already have planned. There is great hiking there, but also some of the best food we've had in Switzerland. However, keep in mind this is about 3 hours from Mürren, while Grindelwald is only about 45 minutes - 1 hour away.
      There are definitely more off-the-beaten-path places to stay near Grindelwald that are really beautiful. Either way, you can't go wrong, and you can easily eat in Grindelwald and Interlaken while you're staying in Mürren because the Schilthorn cable car runs until late. Hope this helps!

    I stayed in Murren this past September and coming back for 6 days in June with my wife. Using the half-fare card would be cheaper overall coming from the US and landing in Zurich, but my concern is that buying ticket on each trip would be cumbersome. BOP would be the next cheaper option at 100 CHF per person. Should I be too concerned with having to buy tickets and miss the next train ride? Using STP was so convenient the last time. BTW Murrren was incredible. I stayed on the main road with valley view and seeing Eiger and the whole mountain range from my balcony everyday was incredible.

      Great question! We think that buying tickets using the SBB mobile app is extremely easy and convenient-but you'll need to have cell phone data for this. Otherwise, if you don't want to buy tickets, the BOP + Half Fare Card is a great combo, and you won't have to buy hardly any tickets in the Jungfrau Region!

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před rokem +1

      Hi Emma! You'll need to add an international data option if you want access to data during your trip. You can do this in one of two easy ways:
      1) Ask your U.S. cell carrier what it costs to turn this on while you travel. It's usually approx. $10/day, and you can normally just turn on roaming data to make it work.
      2) You can purchase an eSIM card online. We had a great experience last year with a company called Holafly, and their options are quite a bit cheaper than using your U.S. cell carrier. Use this link and our discount code (APLINSINTHEALPS) for 5% off if you're interested: esim.holafly.com/?ref=aplinsinthealps&
      Finally, you can download maps in google maps and use them offline without any data!
      However, we'd love to encourage you that the public transport system in this part of Switzerland (and really throughout the whole country) is really, really good. And kids under age 6 are totally free! Unless you just really want to drive, we'd recommend considering doing your trip without a car :)
