- It's motorcade madness in Manhattan as hundreds of world leaders are in the city for the United Nations General Assembly. These VIPs travel in motorcades escorted by police but there are so many, they inevitably end up stuck in New York City traffic - and in the pouring rain, no less. Watch as the NYPD escort these VIPs with protection from the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) and other agencies.
Prince William's motorcade can be seen at 9:49. He was in New York for The Earshot Prize Innovation Summit. He also visited the 9/11 memorial and Ten House.

7 years ago, we went to NYC for 7 nights to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, 21st sept. We didn’t know it was the UN week, but wow! Never seen so many NYPD & Armed Forces! Every corner there was someone! Safest city in the world 😂 We did see 3 motorcades & what a sight! At least 15 cars every time 🙄 what a palaver 😂

I’m from Northern California and thank God we don’t have this kind of chaos! Can’t imagine If you’re just an ordinary citizen, you have to experience this hardship if you’re in NY. 😢

There is no "madness". Welcome to New York, I know you don't live here. Security intensive motorcades take place every day in NYC, and particularly in Manhattan. U.N. week is an annual test of the capabilities of the security agencies involved, along with the NYPD. It is all handled as smoothly as possible, under the circumstances. New Yorkers are accustomed to this situation, and most of us tolerate the inconveniences with aplomb. All the world's leaders assembling at the U.N. are entitled to appropriate security, and our city handles all this without shutting down. Next week we will return to the ordinary levels of high alert.

Yeah UN week sucks. Stay away from the east side when this shit is going down. You can see why traffic sucks because they close lanes just to turn them into special diplomat only lanes.
